Kizuka looked up to the dark night sky. The stars that dotted the vast space drew her to look. The sparkle of the 'firefly's' made her forget about everything. Her focus was only on those stars.

Before long, her stomach let out a loud grumble that snapped her out of her daze. She looked down and placed her paws on the middle of her loud stomach. Kizuka sighed lightly as she hopped away from her spot to find something to eat.

Dubaku was eleventh born in a family of over twenty hares. He grew up watching his siblings come and go and did not get to know many of them. Once he reached maturity, his parents expected him to fend for himself, having offered him all they could. While they loved their kittens, they were relatively traditional hares.

Scared at the thought of being alone, Dubaku was reluctant to leave at first. In fact, he almost begged to stay. With 10 examples of siblings who left before him, his parents explained that he would have to follow in their footsteps. Slowly, but surely, Dubaku ventured into the world.

Unlike the meek, shy hare he once many years back, Dubaku's travels molded him into a bold, intelligent and independent hare. He was warned by his parents of the dangers of the roguelands, but never truly understood until his first encounter with a predator. Dubaku never realised he could run so quickly until that day.

That encounter was not Dubaku's last and he learned that in order to survive he needed to put himself at the top of his priority list. Joining any larger groups would certainly only draw attention to hungry carnivores.

Having been sculpted into something much more than he once was, Dubaku took on the world head on.
---

Weary from a long day of traveling and eager for some rest, Dubaku made his way to a shallow pool of water to take a drink. Before the male was able to kneel down and drink, he spotted the pale green form of another hare nearby. having been alone for so long, Dubaku's fur stood on end and he felt a strong instinct to run.

During her foraging, something caught the corner of her eye. She sat up and looked over to see a brown hare by a small pool of water. When she looked at the water, her stomach grumbled again. She whimpered a little, and hopped over to the water. She watched the male as she leaned forward to drink the water, hoping to help her hunger.

Exhausted from traveling, Dubaku found that his body was in absolutely no state to simply jump up and run off. And despite that, after checking the hare over once more, he noticed that it was a female. Since his departure from his mother, Dubaku had never encountered a female of his own kind - other than his sisters.

And though the male wasn't a fan of company, he couldn't help but admire her beautiful fur and startling eyes. He imagined that the sudden interest in another was entirely due to his instincts and need to pass on his genes. The solitary side of the hare, however, would not simply act on impulse.

When she began in his direction, Dubaku took a few steps back and shook his head as though to shoo her away. "Excuse me? Is there something you need?" He asked, unsure as to why the female was approaching him. Were others hares actually social? Was she feeling the same instinct as he?

Kizuka looked up and blushed a little, some water dripping off of her chin. "Oh..uh sorry." She said softly as she reached a paw up and rubbed the back of her head. "I'm just...really hungry and I was trying to drink some water to tie me over." She said as her stomach rumbled in agreement. She blushed again and placed her paws over her stomach again.

Dubaku couldn't hold back a smile when the female hare blushed in his direction. As awkward as he was feeling, she didn't seem to pose a threat. Had it been the morning, the male may have felt differently, but in the night the hares had a slight advantage. The heat of the morning was almost dangerous to the hares, who were unable to sweat or release the heat from their bodies. The cool night air was a sweet escape and Dubaku was much more energised then.

When she explained that she was hungry, Dubaku's first thought was 'how is that possible with all this grass around you?', but when he actually took a brief glimpse around, he noticed it was all yellow and dead. While it sufficed for him, it didn't actually look to appetizing. Fighting the urge to roll his eyes, the male finished lapping up some water and returned to his two hind feet. "Follow me, I'm sure I can help you find something".

She blinked lightly as he spoke. The green hare placed her paws on the ground, and slowly started to hop around the small patch of water. She looked up to him when she was beside him. "Okay." She said as she gave him a soft smile, "Thanks." she said as she started to follow him, her golden eyes looking around for any threat.

Even though Dubaku was not quite sure how to go about interacting with others, he sort of thought there would be more to it than what was going on. Perhaps he had just stumbled across a female of few words?

Once the female was at his side, Dubaku led the way, following the same path that he had come on. It wasn't too far of a walk and he was sure that he remembered passing a few patches of live grass and pushes that seemed to grow some sort of fruit. As he hopped along, he wondered just what it was that had gotten into him.

Glancing at the green hare, he let out a nervous smile. If she wasn't going to talk, he'd have to break the silence. "So..?" He began awkwardly, "What's your name?"

Kizuka jumped a little when he spoke. She hadn't met another hare before, after she left her family, and was a little shy around the male. She couldn't help it. He was kind of cute.

"Oh, my name's Kizuki." She said and smiled a little caught up with him so she was no longer behind him, but beside him. She looked into his bright green eyes. "What about you? What's your name?"

Dubaku felt a strange combination of uncomfort and satisfaction when Kizuka made her way beside him. So used to living on his own, the male hare wasn't quite sure how to act around others, or even how to feel. Despite his discomfort, however, he knew that he enjoyed the short awkward conversation simply for the sake of meeting another like him.

When she introduced herself, the male nodded and felt the need to respond with his own name. "I'm Dubaku," He said simply and though Kizuki looked up towards him with her interesting golden eyes, the male continued on.

Before long, both hares reached a small clearing of lively grass with a few small bushes nearby. Making a gesture with his paw, the male cleared his throat and spoke again, "Well, we're here. It's not much, but it should satisfy you for now." Hopping over towards the bush, Dubaku grabbed ahold of some small oval shaped red berries. Once he had a few in his paw, the male tossed them into his mouth with a smile.

It wasn't originally his plan, but it made a nice detour.

Kizuka smiled as she saw the small patch of grass, her eyes wide as her stomach responded with a cry of joy of it's own. She hopped back over to the grass and plucked a few blades, nibbling on the cool greens. She looked back over to Dubaku as he ate and when she finished with the blades in her paw she smiled, "Thank you Dubaku, no one's ever been this willing to help me." she said as she picked up another blade, slowly moving over to the bush where he was eating.

Dubaku found that Kizuka'c complement caused his fur to stand on end for a very brief moment. It was rather pleasant to hear that he had seemingly made someone's day doing what he thought should have been normal. Perhaps most hares were like him, avoiding others and remaining on their own for the majority of their time. With a smile and a nod, the male offered a few of the red berries to the female and prepared himself to leave. "Well, i'm glad I could have been of assistence.." He felt an awkward silence as he spoke. He didn't know the female very well, but it already seemed strange just leaving her on her own. "Perhaps we might meet again..?" And though he wasn't sure, Dubaku certainly wouldn't mind. She was rather pretty.
