Kuyoja stood in his seemingly favorite place, the gym. Finally there was to be a child who was going to learn his favored skill, Taijutsu. A form of combat that works primarily with strikes and blows delt with the human body. He was ...in a sense eager to start. Though he had never shown excitement before...he didn't know either. He seemed his usual serene and eerie calm as he went about painstakingly arranging matts and putting on some low background music.
The gym now whispered the sound of birds and a running waterfall. He looked to the clock at the doorand nodded his head. The girl he was to teach was...part dolphin he believed. He would be interested in seeing her.

Del jogged swiftly down the halls towards where she'd been told her class was. She was nervous, not only was it her first class in nearly a year but it was the first time she had been back in the building since the Dragon incident and part of her still wasn't sure how she felt about all of that. Perhaps it was for that reason that she had brought Echo along with her, just to be sure he'd not go missing while she was in class in case this was a ruse.
The young bronze dragon followed along cautiously also remembering his past experience at the facility. It was in his best interest to stick close to Del for both of their sakes. He was strange enough to take down the teachers and perhaps the techs since they all appeared to be human, still he'd rather not fight if he could avoid it.
The pair entered the gym and each flashed a smile at the teacher waiting there , although echo's held a hint of warning before he walked over to a wall to watch.
Del relaxed a bit at the sound of the soothing music and tried to calm her breathing as she shifted from foot to foot. not wanting to stop moving and risk a muscle cramp. " Hi I'm, Del and that's Echo" She gestured to her partner with another smile.

The teacher was tall and well muscled, though still lean. He pushed his glasses up on his face as he watched to girl and her dragon enter the gym. He gave a bit of a bow to the bronze dragon and the girl a curt nod of his head.
"I am glad to see that you are in shape. And that you know well not to stop moving after a run. " Impressed by the fact the girl knew the simplest of things about being fit he felt this class would go well.
"I am your instructor today. Kuyoja Tsuzuki. You may called me Mr. Tsuzuki." He offered the name though it sounded like it was merely a formality and not something he had wished to share. He looked to girl over obviously going over her body shape and taking in her long fin like tail. It could be comber sum in this class...but he was sure he could make it work towards the girls advantage.
"Have you have much in the way of combat classes before?" He inquired as her last class had been very brief in detail.

Del smiled briefly at the praise, having an ex bounty hunter for a father came in handy at times. If nothing else he had kept her in shape since the last time she'd had a class here. Well him and her habitual swimming.
She shook her head and sighed " Not really, I mean my father trains me at home but he doesn't want to interfere with what i might learn here so it's just basic self defense. " Her tail swept back and forth a bit just barely skimming over the floor.
" I learned how to wield a mace last time and i've kept up practice with it but I don't think it's very practical and it's still hard to lift a lot of the time." A dedicated swimmers Del refused to lift weight to the degree she'd need to to properly handle a mace. Muscles that big would make her bulkier in the water.

The man frowned as she described the weapon she had been trained to use. A mace? He wondered breifly if it was a one handed or a two handed mace...and then disregarded it as it was not a pratical weapon to use this day in age. He was however interested in the fac tshe had some self defense experience. That was good for it would help in this class immensly.
"Well today we won't be working with weapons. We will be working with your body and learning to do unarmed combat. Taijitsu to be exact." He explained as he moved over to a matt and indicated she should follow.
"There are thrree sub forms of Taijitsu, taihenjutsu; which covers evasion, postures, ukemi (falling safely), and kaiten (pivoting). dakentaijutsu: striking patterns, fist formations, and conditioning. And finally jutaijutsu: throws, joint locks, pins, and throwing techniques. Which would you find interests you most?" He inquired letting the girl decide what they were to learn this class.

Del looked thoughtful for a moment. Which one would suit her best right now ? She had Echo to protect her sure but he wasn't always around and wouldn't be able to go some places with her. it meant she needed an all aroudn education but for now she could only choose one and it needed to be the right choice.
" Jutaijutsu please" she said stumbling a bit over the foreign word. " I think that one will help best for now."
From where he lay Echo raised his head and watched curiously, this class might actually be interesting.

Kuyoja nodded his head, though he was a bit surprised she choose an offensive style to learn he also wouldn't judge her choice. If she felt she needed to learn offense then that was her choice.
"We will start with pins first. They can be used for self defense and are an effective way to stop agggresive behavoir." He explained as he moved to a straw dummy he had set up in the middle of the room.
"Now I am going to show you one of th simpler techniques. If your opponent decides to take a strike at you you must deflect the move and in a sense hug the person's arm." He demonstrated as he took the dummies arm and slid in close so that he was right up against the side of the dummy.
"Being this close it doesn't allow your opponent many choices to retaliate. You want your strong arm up around their neck so you can force them to the ground." He demonstrated where his arm should be positioned before moving to the next step.
Turning his body he used the strength of his arm to pull the dummy in a semi cricle until it toppeled to the ground. What he did next seemed...weird and if not somewhat perverted looking. He grabbed the dummies arm and pulled it straight towards himself and then used a leg to pin against the dummies throat. He paused a moment before getting back up.
"Of course you must do the move quickly if you don't want to risk your opponent to recover from the stun of the fall." He explained as he went to stand up and moved the dummy back into place.
"You will first practice the move on the dummy, we can't risk you hurting yourself. Your tail should be able to help you with forcing the opponent on the ground. The extra weight would make it very hard for them to escape the move."

Del watched closely as here teacher demonstrated the correct technique for a pin. It looked easy enough, but then again he was doing it slowly, once she had to trying it faster things might get complicated for her. Still she was smiling once Mr. Tsuzuki said it was her turn. Perhaps the encouraging look Echo gave her helped a little. Though as she walked towards the dummy Del, noted in amusement that Echo could simply tackle pretty much anything to pin it.
Carefully Del repeated the motions her teacher had gone through, midnight that it was not as easy as it looked to get your body positioned just right in the "Hug the arm and get close to the body" phase but easy to force them to the ground simply swinging her tail into the back of the knee area.
" Was that ok?"

Kuyoja watched in silence. He could make a very nice lawn ornament if only because he wasn't ugly to look at. Needless to say his expression remained nuetral. He nodded his head approvingly as she used her tail, altering the move slightly. She was making a tricky move have a more personal feel.
"Very good. You may want to try and angle your body more just so that you don't have to swing your tail around quite as much. Although the extra momentum would have more force it would also be slower and use more energy. In a pin you must react quickly and not allow any space for openings." He explained he went to position the dummy again once the girl had gotten off the floor.
"Now try it again." He instructed.

Del nodded quickly taking in the praise and critique equally. Now that she knew what it felt like she knew better how to approach this. This time with more confidence in her step she grabbed the dummy and forced it to the ground. It was easier than before and she had no fear this time of going down with them.
On the ground Del looked over at her teacher " Would I be hard to pin?" She had medium sized elbol and tail fins as well as a fairly large dorsal fin on her back. Those would make her hard to get a hold of she thought, not to mention her tail kept most people from getting to close to her as it was.

Kuyoja looked over the girl slowly. Hard to pin? Hmmm. He moved around her a bit as he looked her over. First studying her form with her own pinning technique before replying.
"I would say yes and no. Everyone can be pinned unless they are too large. You would be more difficult to pin due to your tail and dorsels. But the extra weight could also easily put you off balance if someone was to come from behind." He exlpained before nodding his head in approval at her pin.
"Yes you are getting better. I think I will change the dummy to something more heavy. " He explained as he moved to go grab a heavier dummy. Soemthing that would closer to an actual weight of a young adolescent. A straw dummy just wasn't the same.

Del was mostly pleased with her teacher's response. her body shape wouldn't make her easy to grab and pin. Of course the fact that attacks from behind would off balance her wasn't good. However now that she knew it was a possibility Del could work on improving her balance and in a fight would remember to try and avoid letting her opponent get behind her. Normally she wouldn't have worried about that becuase her tail was good at keeping people away and battering their legs. still now that she knew it was also a disadvantage she'd have to be more careful.
Echo eyed the man warily as he went for a heavier training object. He didn't want his partner to strain herself during her first lesson.

Kuyoja found the correct dummy and moved it to replace the straw oneshe had been using. "It would be best for you to get use to a weight similar to your own. This one will still be lighter than you, but you will notice a big difference when you try to pin it." He explained setting it up for her to try and pin.
Taking a few steps backwards he nodded his head folding his arms across his chest in a serious manner. "I want you to try pinning this target but don't pushyourself. If you find it too heavy we will move back to the lighter one." He cautioned as he didn't want to see his student on his watch get hurt.
