Fenuk pranced joyfully around the thin forest he was in. The humidity was not really high on the July day and the little bit of breeze that was in the forest plus it’s shade made for a beautiful day to be out and enjoying. His blue fire mane crackled and popped like live fire, but it actually felt quite cool. Certainly no hotter than any other colt’s mane or tail. He’d gotten tired of people gawking at him, and tired of his family all having wings save for him and his mamma. What was she thinking having him without wings?
Okay, so maybe she hadn’t decided that.
The sudden depressing thoughts put a definate damper on the colts romping and Fen sighed, hoping that something would come along to cheer him up. Usually when he hoped for something it happened. Except tha the would suddenly be just like his brother and sister.

Victory! She'd finally managed to run off without her dad catching her and making her go back to where he could see her! Now the world was hers to explore! Well, at least until it got dark and she had to go home. She didn't want her dad to suffer TOO much. With the world layed out before her she didn't just settle with chasing bugs, she wanted to find something different, something new she'd never seen before. So she tried to stay focused and just kept trotting along, hoping she'd come across someting exciting and entertaining.
Sure enough she did. But it wasn't a new creature it was a foal her size. Even better! She had a friend to play with now! Digging her heels into the ground she took off at a full sprint toward the colt, her little blue tail waving in the wind as she flew down to him. "Hiya!" she shouted happily.

Fenuk nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the voice call out to him. He was allowed to wander away from home regularly, because his mother trusted him to be home before dark. And he had had a huge fit when she was in her over-protective stage. He was still a colt, but much older than a lot of the others that he saw running around in the fields that had always been home. The lankiness in his legs seemed to be fading just a bit. Even though he was still small, Fenuk felt like just maybe he was growing up. Strangers could still startle the snot out of him.
He tried to hide the snort of fear that came with being snuck up on, and failed miserably. Blinking in shock and breathing heavily from the rush of adrenaline, Fen managed to smile at the pretty filly that was headed his way. She didn’t look much younger than him, and it would really be nice to have someone to play with that he wasn’t related to.
Bobbing his head in greeting, not yelling out a hello since at her current pace she’d reach him soon, Fenuk simply waited.

Kahili skidded to a stop beside him and smiled widely. "Hi there! Whatcha up to?" she asked curiously as she danced around him. She'd never met someone her age before other than her sister so she was definitely excited and definitely happy she escaped from her father for the day. What caught her eye the most was his hair....Or was it even hair?? Didn't look like hair. It was too...flowey and lively and there wasn't very much wind to blow it around like that. "Your hair is so different. What is it? Is it supposed to be like that?" she asked with a sniff of his firey mane. "Oh yeah! My name's Kahili!"

Fenuk grinned, unable to be unfriendly around someone that was as nice as her. Perhaps he had made his first friend that wasn’t related to him by blood? “Uhm.. I’m jest enjoyin’ the day.” Fen was trying his hardest to keep his accent to a minimum, but the more time he spent with his mamma the heavier it became. It was just like breathing, something that he did. “Kahili, eh? Th’name’s Fenuk.” He waited for the flash of annoyance that always came when someone asked about his hair but this time it didn’t come. Well, perhaps she was just too nice to make him mad? Nah, ‘cuz he had gotten mad at his brother and Khet was nice.
Giving a wink Fen tossed his neck about joyfully, over-shaking so he felt a bit dizzy when he stopped. His fire mane and tail went all over the place, disappearing and reforming as if it was supposed to do that, “Oh it jest runs in the family. S’fire. Won’t burn ye less I’m scared ‘r angry ‘n’ ye touch it.”

Kahili tilted her head at his accent but just giggled a bit. He sure was a different one in all ways! "Nice ta meetcha Fenuk. Maybe you'd like some company in enjoying the day?" Her tail wiggled again as her attention turned once again back to his firey hair. "Fire? Woooow! That's so cool. So when you get mad at someone you can just burn 'em! You don't have to worry about anyone trying to get you." Since he said it wouldn't burn her unless he was angry, and he didn't seem angry, she lightly stuck her nose in his hair and giggled as she retracted it. "It tickles!"

He thought it over for several moments, even thought it did not take him long at all to make up his mind. She seemed nice and who wanted to spend the day by themselves when they could be with others? “Welllll… I suppose it would be quite nice to be able ter have some comp’ny.” His own tail was fluttering more quickly than usual. It was strange not being able to wag his tail the way everybody else could, but flies were terrified of him. As he tended to burn them off when his temper flaired up at ‘em. “Well, I don’t ever try ter burn anybody. My mamma would have my head if I did somethin’ like that.”
His mamma, Ignacia, also had a mane and tail of blue fire, she was teaching him how to control his temper and all that… it didn’t make for a very fun way to spend an afternoon or twenty, but better safe than sorry. “Yeup, most folk just laugh when they touch me hair. My two-leg gets a huge kick outta it as well…”

Kahili smiled at him as she stood beside him. "Alright then, what did you have in mind to enjoy this fine day? Surely not just standing here? We can find much more fun things to do." With a nod she trotted off in a random direction, figuring they'd find something sooner or later. "That's good that you don't try to hurt people on purpose. You don't seem like a bully that would do something like that anyway. Well...At least from the five minutes I've talked to you you don't seem bad," she said with a giggle. "I only laughed cause it tickled. I think it's really cool that you have something so unique like that. I mean, lookit me. I don't have wings or a horn or cool hair. All I got is this feather behind my ear from my momma. My momma's got lots of feathers on her."

Fenuk smiled and took off after Kahilii, his legs moving a bit slower than hers and taking longer strides. Eating up the distance between the two of them. “Oh.. I dunno… I didn’t come from this direction so whatever we’ll be seein’ ‘ll definitely be a first fer me. An’ fer ye I’m thinkin’” His little sides huffed and puffed just a little bit before getitng used to the quick but easy pace. Fen thought about it and realized he very rarely ran. Sure, he’d take off after his siblings at a breakneck speed, but that was only ever for a really short amount of time. “It doesna matter if ye have somethin’ like my mane ‘r yer mamma’s feathers.” His “hair” was way overrated, too many responsibilities for a little colt to try to keep up. “It’d be great to jest be able to go play an’ not care one way or the other what ye did.” Not like normal hair was gonna do anything bad to someone else or their home.
He slowed down, even though she kept going. Scanning about to see if there was anything interesting to look at. Looking up into a tree, eyes squinted against the sun he spotted something amusing, “Kahili! Wait come’n see this, aye?”

"Ya never know. I've seen a lot of stuff before. Like recently I was chasing this furry thing with big ears and it was super fast. Daddy said it was a rabbit and I'd never seen one of those before." She trotted along, checking from side to side to see if anything new was headed their way but everything seemed quiet and normal. After the rabbit incident she'd wondered what other furry creatures were out there and what they looked like. Her dad had talked about bears once but they were supposed to be mean. "I'm sure you can play normally just like others. Just as long as you're not scared or mad, right?" She found herself talking mostly to herself since he had stopped and she had kept going a few feet before he called to her. "What'd ya find??" she asked, her excitement growing as she bounded back over to him.
