You know the story... Hansel and Gretel. I don't really feel like retelling it... but I have to say the Epilogue (the Grimm Brothers always seem to leave that out).
Hansel grew up to marry a beautiful young woman named Sally. They had three children, each two years apart. Gretel never married, but had a child as well. They lived in a wildly different environment than Hansel and his family.
Gretel had to become a prostitute, leaving her daughter alone at night. One night Hansel took his wife out to dinner, leaving his children alone.
That was their mistakes. The children were kidnapped by the witch's niece for revenge on Hansel and Gretel.
Now the children are stuck as workers in a hotel. They find they like their jobs, finding their co-workers pleasant and their boss kind (although can get furious if you hit the wrong topic). There parents are unaware of their children's whereabouts, and are currently searching the countryside. ((Note: this is set in fairytale modern times))

However, still barely an adult himself, he has not learned to show them that he is only so overbearing because he truly cares for them. He feels slightly resentful that his siblings do not appreciate his actions, but he also feels guilty for expecting them to. Pleasant and polite most of the time, Joel can easily pass unnoticed. He doesn't make waves, he doesn't shirk work, and he doesn't ask questions unless he must. When not actively speaking to someone, he rarely smiles and can exude a brooding, moody air. Alice poured some cake batter in the pan, humming to herself. She poured another kind of batter over the first and reached around for a toothpick. Finding that one was not at hand she turned to look at her sous chef. "Joel, where are the toothpicks?" she asked.
Wyle hummed, heading towards the kitchen. He'd wait around for the customer's marble cake to be ready. He hoped Alice made extra for him, he loved her marble cake.

Joel quietly approached with a container of toothpicks and set them within easy reach of Alice. "Here, chef." He always answered that way, two soft spoken words just loud enough for Alice to make out over the bustle of the kitchen. Joel did not move very far off; he had an oven preheated and was ready to take the pan once Alice was done swirling the batters together. In the meantime, though, Joel plucked off his glasses and wiped them on his surpisingly clean white apron yet again. They steamed up a bit from time to time in the heat of the kitchen.

"Thank you!" She quickly swirled the batter together, humming softly. She then turned, picking up the pan. She danced across to the over and put the cake in. She looked up, seeing Wyle come in. Wyle waved to his brother, going over to wait for the cake to be ready. He watched the oven from his position, drooling slightly.

Of course, Alice did not always delegate so well. Joel carefully placed his glasses back on his face. "It really won't bake any faster, no matter how lovingly you watch it, Wyle." Should Wyle really be just standing around in the kitchen? Well, Joel honestly did not have the time to ask and start that argument up again. The hotel dining room still had a few patrons that had not been served yet. Joel set about checking several things almost at once. Was the duck crisp yet? Not too crisp; it still needed to be moist inside. And the creamed spinach? Not creamed enough; he could fix that easily. Where were his rolls? Ah, ready just in time. Alice did not delegate so well, but Joel should probably be grateful. There was plenty for him to do already.

"It looks yummy..." Wyle murmured absently. "I love Alice's cakes!" Alice twirled around, bringing him a new spinach recipe. "How about this?" she asked, setting it down in front of him. Wyle turned slightly green, looking at his brother for help.
