Privacy. That had been the reason that Chibi had chosen to live like a hermit in the middle of some uncharted forest. He didn't want to be in the hustle and bustle of Durem, and found country life too boring for his tastes. A life where he ruled his domain and did what he wanted was what he liked best. However, living out in the boonies didn't exactly sculpt his children into socially adept people. Sachiya was lucky; he had Havok, who was a very sociable kitsune. The boy had been around people only a few days after his birth, already being cooed over and petted. Maelon, on the other hand, had been locked up in Pryderi's room, the deer boy fearing he would get hurt. And so, the Sin'aeis boy was consequentially very unsociable, preferring the company of Kitten and his newly acquired black Peru spider Bagira over other Sin'aeis. It really wasn't all that surprising that he was sitting alone in the woods, gazing silently at the plants. After all, there really wasn't much to do in the house. Reaching absently to stroke Bagira's soft fur, the spider sitting on his shoulder, Maelon gazed absently at the forest around him. Sigh. Life was so boring.

********, maybe this hadn't been Mignon's most intelligent idea ever. What did normal kids do when they got bored? Surely they hung out at the mall, or something comforable like that. Why couldn't she have done something like that? No, here she was, trying to find some kid she'd never met before, just to say 'Hello!"
Ugh. She was just too sweet for her own good. She had a pebble, or something like that, in her shoe, there was MUD on her PANTS, and she hadn't found that stupid kid yet.
Finally, in near desperation, she cupped her hands around her mouth and gave a shout: "Hey, Uh..." Now, what was that kid's name again...? Mayfly? Milan? Oh! "Maelon?"

Kitten got more food than I did.
No I didn't. You just ate yours faster.
No!
"Ahem..." Mae warned softly, purple eyes moving first to Bagira, and then to Kitten. Kitten, he found, was much more mature than Bagira, the younger spider often complaining about the stupidest things. Like this. Did he really have to make sure they got equal food? Feh. "Besides, Bagira, Kitten is bigger than you. So just-" He stopped mid-sentence at the sound of a "hello." What the? Maybe Pryderi was looking for him. That must be it. Getting up off the log he was sitting on, he headed in the direction the hello had come from. His protector probably wanted him to come inside or something. So much for a little privacy. As he rounded the corner, he realized that his name had not been called by Pryderi, but by a girl's voice. What the heck? Turning, he found himself about a good few feet away from Mignon. Double damn. She would definitely have seen him. He was not going to get out of this one.

When the boy rounded the corner Mignon made a smile at him. He was a cute little thing, with his red hair and purple eyes. Didn't look too friendly, though. Oh, well. Smiles usually helped any situation.
"You're Maelon, right? I'm Mignon. I found out where you lived from the Sin house and came out to visit, since we've never met." She wondered if she should offer him her hand or not. She settled on giving him a bit of a wave.

Maelon pulled his blue baseball cap further down on his face, feeling the urge to scowl. How did she know his name? He'd never heard of her before. Che. And she was a girl too. Purple eyes narrowed, he reached up to gently remove Bagira from his shoulder, putting him up on his hat. Ha. Girls weren't supposed to like large spiders. Maybe that would scare her off. She, however, starting talking about stuff. Her name, asking him if he was Maelon. Of course! Where there any other Maelons in the vicinity? Nooo...
"I'm Mae."
He replied shortly, keeping his reply as little as possible. She had disturbed his time with his spiders. "Why would you want to come see me?" It seemed stupid. Only friends visited each other, not completely stranges.

"Good to meet you, Mae!" She said, shooting him another tooth grin. What was that on his hat...? A spider? "What kid of spider is that?" She asked, leaning closer. Mom hated spiders. "We have black furry ones in our basement. They creep upsatirs and scare my mother. It's funny. She runs everywhere, screaming."
She straightened to answer his other question. "Well, I've never met you, and I was curious. I like meeting new people."

Jeeze, where did this kid get her energy from? Suspicious but not finding any reason to be angry with her, his scowl started to lessen. Why girls just all be like Akilah? That way he could just say he disliked them all and be done with it. Her question about spiders through him off guard, the dark chocolate Sin'aeis blinked slowly. Before he could even answer, she was already talking about her mother and spiders, the story reminding him of Pryderi. "Yeah, my protector screamed the first time he saw Kitten..." He snerked, catching himself before it turned into a full out laugh. He still couldn't trust girls, even ones that liked spiders. "An' Bagira's some kind of Peru spider."
Her next answer caused him to tilt his head. Meeting new people. "Whasso special about that?"

Kitten? His spider was Kitten? That made her grin. "Good names. If you ask anyone if they wanna see Kitten or Bagira, they'll think it's a cat. Then you can scare 'em. It'd be funny."
"Well, if you make them your friend, then you have somone to talk with, or to shop with, or to beat mean people up with. It's good to have lots of friends, in case some of them go crazy." She smiled big at that.

This time, Mae couldn't stop the small laugh. Yes, it was true. Kitten and Bagira sounded like names you'd name a cat, rather than a large furry spider. Pryderi hadn't been too pleased with his name choice, saying that'd he'd rather have named them "Killer" and "Jaws" or something along those lines. But this Mignon agreed with his name choice. She seemed to find scaring people with spiders funny, and that was very cool in his books. Maybe this girl was okay. Her next comment about making friends only boosted her further up on the scale of likeness. "s true…but how could you wanna see me?"

Finally, a laugh. She shot him another grin, pleased that she'd said something to make him laugh. " 'Cause I've never met you. I'm kinda curious about the other kids that're around. And I've never taken an impromptu hike in the woods before. Didn't make you mad by dropping in, did I?"
Curious, she reached out a hand for the spider on his head. "Will she bite me?" She asked, pausing before she touched the spider.

Mae's response to her question was a small shrug. At first, he had been quite irritated that she had decided to just drop by, but now it wasn't so bad. She was pretty cool... for a girl. It seemed a little weird to just seek out the other Sin's that you haven't met, but maybe that's what she liked to do. Whatever. He stifened a little when she reached to touch Bagira, but decided he'd let her pet the Peru spiders. "He. And no, he won't." The emphasis on 'won't' caused Bagira to grumble something, but he allowed the girl to pet him.

"Sorry about that. I'm not good at telling girl spiders from boy spiders." Mignon carefully extended her hand and patted Bagira a few times. "Well, he's not scary at all. Nice and furry."
Bah. Spiders weren't scary. Just another way of proving that her mother was an idiot. "Do you like other animals, or just spiders?"

"'sokay." Mae responded almost automatically, feeling slightly fuzzy inside when Mignon touched his spider. She liked Bagira. She thought he was cool. And she was actually petting him! Unable to stop a grin from twitching the corners of his mouth upward, he said brightly. "Of course he's not scary." He paused at her question, tilting his head in thought. "I like snakes. Whad'you like?"

"Snakes are neat!" She agreed. Even though she'd only played with one on a dare from one of Mom's crazy friends, she'd liked the texture of their scales. "Uh, I like cats. Dogs are okay, as long as they don't smell or lick you. Deer are cute, too. And turtles, as long as they don't bite."

She liked all the same kind of animals he did! Liking this girl more by the second, his grin widened. Snakes were definitely cool! And she liked cats and deer too! Maybe he should introduce her to Midori. He had never met a turtle or a dog before, so he couldn't comment. But still! Snakes and spiders! "Awesome." Now a lot more relaxed than he was before, Maelon rested his hands casually in his pockets. "So... Mignon right? How d'you know where I lived?"
