Why am I even here?

The night slowly crept up behind the dark winged herald. The sky was clear and the wind was warm, nothing out of the ordinary for a summer night. Losing his way, Kemuri took a turn at an unfamiliar corner. In front of him lay something with bright lights. He winced at the sight. He didn't know what lay before him, but it lured him in.

He walked forward beyond the gate and saw what it truly was... It was a quaint little amusement park. Nostalgic music played, running though his mind and stirring the memories he wished had existed. The ferris wheel, the merry-go-round, even the spinning teacups... lit up and illuminated the sky... He stepped closer... closer... it was just out of his reach. he wanted to turn back time and become a little child, running off to who knows what...

Guinevere was lying down at the bottom of a teacup. It was dusty and quiet, and the lights on the edge had begun to dim. But when she needed time to think, she found herself coming here more and mroe often.

After all, one was very nearly a teenager! It may be okay for LITTLE girls to think in ordinary places, but BIG girls had to find somewhere mysterious. And anyway, she had to keep track of her star journal. She unfolded her small telescope. "Okay..." she said, looking at the heavens and then back to her journal, scribbling notes messily.

The amusement park made her nostalgic, though. She didn't know how old it was, but it seemed to be getting on in years. She wished it was still alive, but whenever she went in it she felt like she was in the skeleton of some once-great animal.

Strange as it sounded.

The music, the lights, were all just a pigment of his imagination; a piece of history stored in his mind. He wanted it to come to life before his very eyes... Just once. He trotted back and forth, looking for something to turn on the rides or the manager of the place. But all was dead under the starry heavens.

He walked, staring in awe at all the rides. The ferris wheel made him sigh as he would've wanted to go on it... The merry-go-round made him swear that kids were actually playing on it. Then there was the teacups. He's never been on them before. He thought it was deserted but then he seemed to sense that he wasn't alone. He peeked around the corner; no one. Then he looked around; no one.

He felt like giving up the search and just heading home but this place seemed to pull his interest even though it was dead.

Guinevere shifted uneasily. She felt like she wasn't alone, and remembered what her mother said about strangers in the dark in abandoned places. Suddenly being alone out here wasn't so appealing. She sunk to the bottom of the teacup to be less noticable, wings fluttering nervously, journal clutched to her chest. But as she did so, a puff of dust swirled around the white and blue teacup. She breathed in...

Ah...

Ah...

"TCHOO!"

Her sneeze rang out clearly in the night, and frightened, she hid at the bottom of the teacup. "There's nobody there, there's nobody there, there's nobody there..."

Kemuri nearly fell onto his rear end as a loud sneeze seemed to have started from the teacups. He was slightly frightened at looking into the teacups now. He slowly went towards the blue and white teacup, making sure that it was safe. He could feel his wings feeling palmy with sweat.

He approached slowly and cautiously. he really didn't know what to expect from the deserted park area. What if it was a rapist? well, he wouldn't get raped. If he were a woman, he might've. What if it was a kidnapper? naw, they wouldn't kidnap a grown adult like him. What if it was a murderer?! okay, fine, a murderer probably wouldn't care and killed him. But subconsciously, he didn't turn back. He just bent over and peered into the dark cup.

Guinevere heard the footsteps approaching. She tensed. Now what?! Kotatsu hadn't told her what to do to actually defend herself, which was typical of the shy, scatterbrained guardian. And Guinevere had never done anything remotely resembling physical labour before, save riding her bike around the yard. She was weak as a kitten. Maybe they would pass her teacup, she hoped. Maybe they wouldn't see her and leave... After all, she did wear a lot of black. Please pass on by, pass on by... But typically, they went right to the teacup she was in. All right. Guinevere sucked in her breath. It was time to make a last stand. Guinevere got up and said "AUUUUUUGH!", intending to tackle the mysterious figure.

The blue and white cup seemed more or less empty with the exception of maybe perhaps a few spiders lurking here and there. He looked inside once more before going to inspect the other cups. But suddenly, he heard a loud yell, perhaps out of defense, coming from the white and blue cup. Lily ha never taught him any self-defense. But at least he knew a little bit of how to fend off something.

'Could it be a Rapist? Or maybe a thief? A cat? I'm running out of time!' He thought in his head as his feathers ruffled and his body tensed up, ready to fight if needed.

There was a dark figure a few teacups away, and Guinevere paused. They hadn't seen her! But her yell had been her downfall, the figure was tensing, ready to fight. Her voice quavered as she, too, crouched into what she thought was a fighting stance and said "I... I have to warn you, I kn-know six ways to c-curse your ears off!" No need to mention that she hadn't ever tried to curse anyone before and all the other spells she tried had either exploded or shown no noticable effect. "Th-this is your last chance to leave now!" As she said this, she squinted in the dark at her assailant. What were those dark lumps? Were those... Wings? "A herald?" she said in confusion. Squinting some more, she chanced a quavery "...Kemuri?"

The dark winged herald looked back, he couldn’t make out what was there but he could’ve sworn that voice was on that he knew. He said nothing back to the figure and tried to step further away before his ears were cursed off. At the voice got gentle, and spoke his name, he turned around to make out the figure of a young girl who seemed to know him. He knew a few girls but he knew who this voice belonged to.

“Guin?” He asked the darkness, just to make sure it was who he thought it was and not some witch who would curse him. “Is that you there?” He added.

"Kemuri!" Guinevere exclaimed in relief. "Oh, goodness, I was so sure you were a kidnapper!" She winced when she remembered he HAD been accused of kidnapping once. "Or something." she amended hastily. "What are you doing out here at this hour? I'm here to work on my star journal. Oh!" She ducked into the teacup and pulled out a lamp. "Hold on..." she fumbled in her dress pockets and struck a match, lighting the candle within and casting some light over the place. Yes, now she could definitely make out the comfortable figure of Kemuri, as familiar to her as her own guardian. "Kotatsu says flashlights are safer, but I think a lamp is so much more charming, don't you?"

Kemuri squinted as the darkness seemed to play fiddle around with his eyesight. Then, She replied. He smiled to himself as she spoke, even if it was about his past. Subconsciously, he closed his eyes a little at the sudden light that Guin had pulled out. "Yea, sure is nice with candlelight." He said a bit relieved now that he could see her face clearly. "But it's good to listen to Kotatsu. She doesn't mean you any harm." He told her lifting a hand and moving it her mystic dark hair; wanting to pat it gently.

Guinevere reached out to Kemuri. "Come here!" she said, sliding into the teacup. "Kotatsu is a ninny." Guinevere proclaimed, her opinion of her having varied little from the day she met the woman. "But she means well, I suppose." She looked at Kemuri. "You still haven't told me why you're here. Is it magic? Magic by moonlight in a dead place? I thought about doing some here too, but I can't sneak all the ingredients out of the house so I just do my star journal out here." She showed him the telescope and blue journal.

Kemuri saw Guin call him over. He stepped into the teacup and in it with the center spinning metal table thing in the middle. He stretched one leg where Guin wasn't and bent the other up close to him. These things weren't built to hold him... He fumbled with her questions. There were so many things to answer to. "Well, I was just taking a stroll and happened upon this place. Maybe it wasn't magic, but fate.'" He said, chuckling a little to himself. He noticed she was showing him her a journal. "oh cool, what do you record in this star journal?" He asked her. He was sort of curious on what she wrote.

"Well," said Guinevere, "I write about stars and stuff. My books all say the stars are important for witchcraft, especially fortunetelling. But they also say fortunetelling is highly unreliable due to the flexibility of the future. But a lot of spells also call for stars to be at certain points in the sky." She frowned. "Of course, it's kind of dull so I write other stuff in there too." The book was littered with doodles and nonsense writing, as well as star observations and potion notes. "None of the magic has really worked yet." she said, sighing. "Most of it just exploded or did nothing or turned green." She was beginning to think maybe magic wasn't what it was cracked up to be. "Maybe magic is all just making other people think it's magic."

Kemuri flipped through the pages of doodles and words. It seemed nostalgic. Everything written seemed to progress through time, not just the logs, but the memories and the journal itself. It's like a piece of recorded history that might one day be useful. He smiled to himself as he looked further until he got a blank pages. He closed it and handed it back to her. "It's a good journal." He said before continuing listening to her speak. "Maybe magic isn't as far as you think." He said as he pulled out a coin from his pcoket. "I picked up this magic coin on the street one day. Want to see it disappear and reappear from your ear?" He said, trying to lighten the mood.
