As far as I'm aware, there's only been one Sonic movie: the Sonic: the Movie anime OAV that was released in 1999.

I own the hybrid DVD, so I've got it in both dubbed and subtitled format

I've got the UK DVD. The voice acting is, well, interesting. I always thought Sonic sounded like a redneck - maybe he'd be more at home in Hazzard county behind the wheel of an orange Dodge Charger! - and Tails had a bad cold smile

Metal Sonic was well animated in this one, I think. The best thing (other than the cool music - man I wish I had that on CD) was the fact that Tails was a proper sidekick. He wasn't left behind, or treated like a kid. He got Sonic out of jams, I seem to recall. Finally, he was a proper mechanical genius, as he should be.

Unfortunately, a UK-based Region 1 DVD site tells me the DVD's "out of print" now, so I guess it's eBay for me. If I ever do find it, then there'll be a UK version available to a good home smile

As for other movies, do you mean feature-length stuff like (I think) Sonic Christmas Blast? I was annoyed to find that a Christmas DVD which, in Australia and the States, has Inspector Gadget, something else and Christmas Blast on it, in the UK does not include Christmas Blast. How unfair is that?

Actually, they released another Sonic movie here in America; it was some Christmas special with the SatAM crew and everything. Never saw it, and don't want to either. *isn't into the ol' American Sonic cartoons*

I've got the anime OVA as well, and it's pretty cool. They could have gotten a lot better voice actors though. . . A looot better. Plus they took out Sonic giving Eggman the finger, damn them.

They both needed a bad dose of Vaporub. Sonic was at least as bad, right from the first scene - and was it me, or did his accent seem to teeter almost towards English at points?

As though he's been animated anywhere else other than the SCD cutscenes! wink

I agree. Tails' personality even included his dislike of thunderstorms, which was a nice detail.

It was nice to see him actually get to talk down to Sonic occaionally - as well as Sonic occasionally defer to him and act as though he knew what he was doing. For once...

I picked a new hybrid copy up on eBay about four months ago, so they're still out there if you're willing to keep your eyes open.

However, I still have Samwise's copy, which I have a memory like a sieve and keep meaning to send to you. Wait until the end of the month and me having a little spare money.

That wasn't feature length - it was just a normal, 22 minute AoStH episode.

And it didn't feature the whole SatAM crew - just a static version of the early, pink Sally, who stood on a hilltop looking catatonic. In one shot. For about three seconds. Maybe.

About as unfair as the usual treatment the UK usually gets as far as these things go (*coughMuppetChristmasCarolcough*).

Still, at least we got Dungeons and Dragons and Ulysses 31 first. smile

Believe me, if you've missed out on the Sonic Christmas Blast special, you're not missing much at all <_<;
I was constantly shaking my head while watching it...I can take some cheesy things in shows, but that one really took its toll. Makes the normal episodes of AoStH seem like Spielburg razz

Now, if by movie you mean "video tape" (I know alot of folks who refer to them like that...you ain't from the south by any chance, are ya, Bahamut? XP), then yes, I have a fair collection of SatAM and AoStH videos. Wish I had a complete set, but eh, can't be helped...

Actually, I didn't think that the slight extra shading and the difference in character colours were so bad. Sonic was a bit light, but at least Tails was finally orange rather than brown.

I need to update my merchandise list at some point (there's a merchandise topic around here somewhere, which lists my stuff) - I've managed to acquire a four hour DVD of early AoStH episodes since it was written. smile

What about you, Bahamut? You asked the question, and since you didn't start the ball rolling, I have to ask... how much do you own? smile

I think I have watched clips of the movie on a music video. (if it is the one with Knuckles having that Crocodile Dundee hat)

Is the movie really worth buying in the terms of being a fan of Sonic-related stuff?

Well, it's definitely a mixed bag, that's for sure. I love the OVA to death, myself; lots of action fitting for a Sonic-based anime, an interesting storyline, the fact that it's uncut (ah, gotta love random bits of adult humor razz ). The downside is that the voices take some getting used to, but at least the VAs put EFFORT into their acting.

Same difference (although I didnt even realise that the US had Twin Peaks' second season yet). The fact that the UK version of Muppet Christmas Carol was mysteriously cut for DVD release still just confuses me - particularly since they edited out the entirety of one of the better songs.

Bootleg from an online auction. Don't worry - you haven't missed any releases. smile

What Shane said, really. It's yet another interpretation of the Sonic universe, so if you go into it with an open mind and not expecting too much in common with other continuities apart from the lead characters, I suppose you've as much chance of liking it as not.

It's the poor quality of the dubbing and subbing ("Knuckles the mole" being "Sonic's best friend", anyone?) that lets it down most of all.

I particularly liked Tails' and Sonic's ability apparently to teleport out of the way of bullets. Or maybe I'm just misinterpreting their super speed. Either way, pretty cool smile

Plus, Knux's attitude doesn't seem to change much no matter what universe he's in - he's such a grump. "Does anyone care that I'm busy here?"

i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who wants the music on CD, i'd listen to it over and over.
i swear the music at one point sounds like a bit of music from sonic adventure.

as for the OVA itself, i loved every bit of it.. it's just so very sonic, and yet not as it's in a compleately different world to what we're used to from the games or comics. ^^
