I just saw this film...excellent piece of work! It's Disney ( stare of course!), but it was wonderfully original, even though it deviated from the novel in HUGE ways. I enjoyed watching Tim Curry ( heart blaugh 4laugh Kittie like him!) as the Cardinal Richelieu--really, he was the only reason I rented the film. He gave me chills (and he made my stomach turn back-flips, but truly amazing villians do that to me). Over all, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars, missing that fifth only because the film was, as early mentioned, a serious deviation from the novel (written by Alexandre Dumas--I'll be starting it soon).

Rate: 4/5

I love that movie! I bought it for my brother one year. I told him he needed more comedy in his collection since it was mostly horror/sci-fi.

What's a movie worth if it doesn't have a villian, right?

I know the feeling, lol! Only, my collection's mostly comedy.... Looking for some good drama or action/adventure stuff, though....

It completely mangles the book and is unpleasant for me to watch. I much prefer the Michael York/Rachel Welsh one.

Yes, someone told me it destroyed the book in full, but they liked it anyway. Said it wasn't quite so painful if they looked at it as a seperate thing altogether. (I was also told that this version ended much more happily!!!)
I heard about the York/Welsh casting.... Is it any good?

I think it's sad that Disney twists so many things around.... I grew-up thinking the hunchback of Notre Dame was a good guy!!!!! eek

The York/Welsh ones are mildly comedic, charming, and closer to the book. I'd much rather watch that.
