So, if Prof. River Song is supposed to know the Doctor's mysterious, secret name, what is it?
Back in the day, Eirwyn and I called him "Cailean Ahdragon"--but I've appropriated the name (along with lots of fan-fic plots) for my original fiction. Besides, if the Doctor's real name was so cool sounding, he'd want to use it, right?
So what's his name? Any suggestions? I respectfully (NOT!)submit "Drexil." wink

I would so totally change that last one to "the Doctor" if I were him, too!
And of course it might be "Fred" . . .

His name is "The Doctor" until his "true" name is revealled. Which I doubt it ever will be.

I really dont want the Doctors real name to ever be shown to the public, known by anyone.
He's always been the Doctor. Though I love the idea of his name needing to be used in a specific situation, I never want a name to be trully canon.

Yeah, I would be very, very upset if we ever learned his name in canon. Excited, but upset. It's just... You just don't do that.
Then again, RTD already broke the taboo of the Doctor not being romantically involved with his companions, but we can pretend that that was broken with 8 and Grace(?).

I agree that his name should be kept secret because whatever it is, it's going to be a let down because it would either sound silly or boring to us. The enigma is more exciting. I remember when I first heard that the name of the Doctor's home planet was Gallifrey, I was like, "Oh. ninja That's the name of his planet? OK..." (I'd never even heard of Doctor Who until Eccleston came along, so I didn't know there was a whole multi-decade era that already knew it. I just thought it was a secret the same as his name.)
