Giza'vermaak watched the sun absently before looking back at her parent's den, yawning. Daytime, when almost everyone slept. When they should hide, lest the mercs find them. She looked down at a small wooden shiv she had managed -with a great deal of difficulty- to carv for herself. It wasn't all that sharp, which made it useful, but it did inspire a sense of pride in the girl.
She glanced over her shoulder at a bird she had managed to kill... it certainly hadn't been as clean-cut as she would have liked, but perhaps she would show her parents. They might be happy with it, since she had actually killed it on her own... even though it had been more or less a fluke. She had caught it completely by suprise -and it her- when she had poped out of a hole she had been exploring.
They had both been essentially stunned into silence for a moment, before Giza struck out and managed to get a hold of it. So... yes, perhaps she would tell her parents. And leave out the shock part. And the accident part. It would probably sound a lot more exciting when she was done with the story... she just wished it could have been a cleaner kill...

Shirah was restless again and up to her ways. Unlike most of the group, the litter was a little ... well, they woke up a lot easier than the rest of the groups. They woke up in the day. The lone gray-white cub sat up, snugged between her large father and her silent mother. Now... who to cling to and spy on?... Green eyes scanned the darkness of the room to see whom was here and perhaps whom wasn't. It would be a lot easier if she had the eyes of a certain three others of the family, but nevertheless. Slowly she counted the bodies and counted one missing. Where was Giza? Alert, she quickly awoke her mother, well, not really. The little cub growled and tugged on her mother's ear before jumping roughly on her back and digging claws into her side, laying flat against her back. That was certainly enough to wake her mother...
Leaving the den, very tired, and with a cub stuck to her back like a primate mother-offspring pair, she sought out in the daylight.
"Shirah, dear, why must you wake me so early? The sun is still up..." she yawned, trudging along. Actually, waking up like this by this method had became a trend for her. Shirah was always waking her up now. For once, she just wished she could be alone with Riddick again...
"Giza's missing, you gotta find her or daddy will be upset if something happened to her!" She murmured behind her. "Now shush! I'm gonna spy~"
Yorik shook her head and continued on her way, looking for that tiger-faced daughter of hers. She just hoped she wasn't far and that she could get back to sleep shortly after.

Giza looked around, hearing voices and movement from the den. She hadn't really gone all that far away. So she smiled and stood up, grabbing her bird and creeping over towards the noises. She quickly spotted her mother and Shirah, and snuck up behind them, being sure not to make a sound... it wouldn't do any good to let them know where she was, now would it?
She waited until she could get a small amount of higher ground in front of them and then dropped the bird down in front of them, grinning wildly, "Hi mommy. Hi Shirah." She dropped down beside them, "Were you looking for me? Or are their mercs about?" That would be very exciting... even though she had been told to be wary of such creatures. Never say who her parents were.
It was easier for her... her eyes didn't look like anyone else's in her family. Bright yellow. Without her father's eyes, or her mother's green ones... even if she did have similar colors to them. If there were mercs about, tricking them would be easy enough. No one would have any idea she was Riddick's daughter.
Or at least, that was what she thought. It was more of a game to the cub. She wasn't really grown-up enough to understand the implications of her family's status.

"I see you caught yourself something, Giza, well done," Yorik murmured as she laid herself down. To wake up in the day time was rare for her now, she had became nocturnal like most of the group. However, when it came to the cubs waking up, she made it her priority to be up so that no other of the members have to deal with them. especially their father. Yorik loved Riddick, she will admit it within the confines of the group, more likely to Riddick himself, but she would never vocalize it ... at least, not anymore. If anyone knew her feelings for Riddick, they could use her to get to him.
"Giza, do not speak of those too lightly. They are dangerous and something you should not say alloud..."
Still tired, if she was more awake, she would have gladly continued her ranting. Giza got off lucky for the time. Yorik gave a soft yawn before resting her head down, green eyes watching the cub.
Shirah peeked out from her mother's back with a rather irritated expression. "How did you know I was here!? Not fair..." Being found, 'hiding' there would serve her no real purpose. She wouldn't get any juicy information if others knew of her presence. What a bummer that would be. The off-color cub settled down beside her mother, watching her rather devious sister and her trophy kill.
"Was it dead?"

"Of course not!" Giza said to her mother, "The mercs are the enemy. I'll watch for them. Besides, if I saw them while you were sleeping, I can come back and warn you." She insisted, saluting. But she knew if she kept this up, a lecture would likely be the end result. No good. No good at all. Better to focus on the victories. Like the bird. "I did catch the bird! All by myself!"
She smiled at Shirah, "Listen in daddy's lessons! When getting the upper hand, do it above and from downwind! No smell, and you can see everything from above. Hiding did you no good when I had the element of suprise." Giza seemed very, very pleased with her ability to remember everything she had been taught.
Then she felt a little defensive about her kill. Sure, she AND the bird had been caught by suprise and she had killed it by sheer luck, and had it been a larger creature, then she would probably be quite dead... but it hadn't been. She had killed it.
"It was NOT. I killed it. Fair and square." Well, at least... sort of.

"Giza... Say, do you even know what a Merc looks like?" Even she did not know the answer. She tended to stay within the group to be safe. Now with cubs, even more reason to stay within the group, their lives are what will keep the group alive... sort of wished there were more than two males, but one cannot choose their cubs. Deep down, she knew that Riddick will mate again and there, she knew the next time it may not be her. She understood that if not, she would be fine with it for the most part as long as Riddick acknowledged her feelings for him, she did not care. That was all she wanted.
Shirah scowled and huffed. "I do too listen to daddy's lessons! And mommy's! And all the others! I can kill stuff too, I am good at hiding. I can do all that stuff, just you watch and see, I will kill two birds!" The little female scoffed again before lifting her head to seem more superior which only made Yorik laugh a little. Nuzzled, Shirah looked around them to see if anyone was there.
"Daddy says that if a Merc is around, we'd have to tell him. But if we dun know what they look like, we can't really go tell him..."
"That is why you must alert us to any strangers out there, Shirah. Same goes for you too, Giza. Strangers should not be trusted. No matter what, you must be on the defense. Even if they seem nice, once they gotten what they wanted, they can easily turn on you."

Giza nodded, listening to her mother carefully, "Well... a merc is anyone who isn't us." She said decisivly. "Isn't us and isn't food anyway." Not that she hadn't seen anyone who wasn't in her family and wasn't food. Still, it all seemed perfectly logical to her. Anyone not in her family was the enemy and couldn't be trusted. That was just the way things were. Besides... anyone who wasn't a member of the family would either be too weak for them, or would be strong enough to be their enemy.
She glanced at Shirah and rolled her eyes, playfully shoving her sister, "Oh please! You haven't even caught one bird, how could you EVER catch two?" Really, she hoped that Shirah would... she would welcome the competition. And also, when they got older, they would all have to be tough enough to work together, wouldn't they? If anyone wasn't strong now, they wouldn't be able to survive later.
Of course, she had never thought of this on her own. She had heard the adults talking about it at some point or other, and had quite liked the way it sounded. She still didn't understand what all of it would mean, but she knew it meant that she and her siblings would have to be tough. Tougher than anyone else.
No problem. She could handle it.
"Any time I see a stranger mom, I'll tell you and dad, or Kyra." She said, nodding happily, "And I'll never trust anyone I don't know."

"Well... that is the flaw there. Any stranger could be a merc, and at the same time, there are some strangers who could be a great deal of help to us. But you are right, if you see any strangers, you must alert us, be they good or bad. You must not risk your own safety to find out yourself," Yorik licked the top of Giza's head. She was smart for her age. She understood a lot and remembered just as much. Shirah's main priority had always been hiding and spying, but even then, she could remember a lot of information, but her skills at a hunter was less than her sister's. But she was sure that any of their cubs would alert the group if they saw anyone.
Shirah growled and pawed at her sister. "I so can! Just you wait, when I do, I will throw them at your face!" She giggled and quickly scurried off back onto their mother's back for higher ground and to get away from Giza. Sticking her tongue out. Deep down, she figured that it would take a while before she could get two birds, but she will eventually.
"Alright, enough you two, mother is still tired and if you keep talking like this. I am afraid you might attract some attention, even worse, wake your father. Come come, lets go back to the den. You could finish your snack back at the den, Giza," Yorik licked her daughters before raising to her feet to lead the way back.
Shirah hopped off and sat herself down beside Giza. "But I just woke up, I dun wanna go back to sleep yet!" Grinning, she pounced her sister to instigate play.

Giza grinned as her mother licked her head, "Okay. I'll tell you, no matter what! Especially if I wake up during the day!" She declared, seeming quite pleased with herself, "I won't do anything that will get me hurt." Yeah right, what fun would THAT be?
"Oh yeah right!" Giza grinned, sensing the challenge and liking where it was going. "Come on mom! If we're quiet and we play outside then dad will never hear us, and we'll be close in case something happens! Don't make us go back to bed!"
She pleaded with her mother, while smirking up at her sister, wondering what kind of games they could play. Hide and seek maybe? That would be fun! Or... they could try and find more birds. Anything would be great! But she was wide awake and in no mood to do anything except something that wasn't sleeping!
"I dun wanna go to sleep! I dun wanna!" She chanted along with her sister. After all, she was a kid. She could still be really annoying, if it was called for.

Let's just hope that you dun have to wake me in the day... she thought, chuckling softly. She knew Giza, in fact, all of her cubs will do whatever they wanted to have fun and learn to improve themselves. However, getting hurt can be unexpected and unavoidable, so she just hoped that Giza will learn that her comment was only one of empty reassurance.
Shirah hissed, swatting at her sister, however, she had her sister's side on this argument.
"Please mom? Pretty please! I just woke up, I dun wanna go back to bed yet!" She pleaded, withdrawing some so she cannot be taken away too easily. She softly whispered, "Pleeeeeeease~"
Yorik gave a sigh, moving herself to the tree nearby, keeping an eye on them as she moved back. "Fine... but until the sun sets, and that is soon. Then you must do whatever your father says, to the very word! If I learn that you did not, no more day time play time. Got it?"

Giza sat down and swiftly saluted, clearly quite pleased that she and her sister had managed to win the arguement, "WE WILL! And I'll even give dad the bird I caught for breakfast so that he won't be grumpy with us!"
She swatted back at Shirah, grinning wildly, "And as for you..." Giza swatted at her nose, "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!" She declared, before racing back up the small cliff she had jumped down earlier. She had a slight advantage, since she had already been hanging around it... but she knew that Shirah was no one to underestimate when it came to the 'dangerous' game... of tag.

Shirah quickly darted off at her beloved sister. She was a spy, yes, but a spy must be quick to get out of situations when discovered. She was fast. "I will catch you and I will make you regret that swat! Just you wait!"
Yorik gave a soft sigh, watching the two dart off on their game from her tree. The sun will soon set and the moon will bring forth the darkness that will waken the rest of the group.
"Once the moon shows its face, their charge will fall upon the others... just this once," She yawned softly, struggling to keep her head up. She will not falter, she must prove to her beloved male that she is capable. Yorik was the mother and she will do what she can to defend them and keep his blood alive.

Giza laughed, "We shall see!" She announced, dropping into a small dirt hole, which led up into a fallen tree. She was rather proud of the spot she had located.
It was from that point that she had killed the bird after all. And it was too small for anything dangerous to get into... except her. She was really fond of it... but knew she wouldn't be able to stay. Both because her sister was bound to find her -and fast- but also because her family would be moving on.
Sooner rather than later.

Shirah stopped for a moment after losing sight of her sister, raising her nose to sniff the air. Scent~ The little grey-silver cub paused mid-step as something got her nose. Was it Giza?
Crouching, she stalked off toward the smell in hopes it was her sister.
Yorik yawned as the stars started to glimmer in the twilight sky. It will not be long now... she contemplated taking them back rather have the other little ones wonder where they had gone off to and give their father a hassle of a time. The last thing she wanted was burden Riddik with his children. She was the mother, she was the one who was going to take care of them. If not, she would have to confide in the others.
"Girls, stay in my sight," she cautioned, raising herself a bit to get them back into her emerald sight. As small as they were, they were quick and easy to lose track of.

Giza grinned and stayed where she was. This version of hide-and-go-seek tag was way, way too fun to miss out on just because her mother told them to stop. Really, where would that kind of negative thinking get them?
Besides, if she revealed her location, then Shirah would win. And where would the fun be in that? Really. No good at all.
Besides, if anything did happen, Giza knew first hand that she had one HELL of a scream. Usually reserved for terrifying siblings after sneaking up behind them.
For now though... she lurked in her new hiding spot.
