 Noon found Vartan splashing in the river to escape the unrelenting heat of the midday sun. Yet while other foals would have swam without care, enjoying the freeding of their youth, he was ever focussed on improving himself. The colt stared at the water and brought a heavy purple hoof down on the stones each time he saw a flash of silver pass him by.
He hadn't managed to hit a fish, yet, but it was only a matter of time. Vartain found it relaxing to have something to concentrate on. The sky was cloudness, the birds were singing, his parents had no idea where he was, and he was completely at peace.

Cal had tried his best to hide in the shade of the trees, feeling not any cooler he decided to switch to another source. Glancing about he spotted what appeared to be a stream further away, 'Maybe there's a better way' he let a grin grow on his fave and playfully bound towards it. He stopped quickly just before he flew in surprised at how big the stream was "...not a stream" he mumbled in confusion.
Being careful he gently tapped foreward into the river, with a foreleg. Feeling the cold water rushing against his leg he flung himself into the water. Relief swept over him as he learned it wasn't too deep. He was about to continue when sound caught his attention. Deciding he followed the river where he then spotted a reddish colt playing in the water '...at least I think it is' he couldn't help but stre at the colt as he repeated it over again.
"Ummm..." he paused worried that he would disturb him "What are you doing?"

Vartan immediately stopped his splashing. His head snapped up, and looked anxiously for the source of coltish voice that had interrupted his practice time.
His eyes fell upon a dark brown foal. It had a strange mask, and the portrusions that stuck out of its back were even stranger. It was suspicious. He didn't like it.
But the intruder was young. Vartan could take him.
"Practicing," he said. "And you? What are you doing?"
Vartan's pale eyes narrowed.
"Are you a part-Kalona? If that's so, this isn't your land."

'Practice?' he puzzled over the stranger and the activity, he was even more puzzled by the reaction he got. 'Maybe I came at a bad time...what did he say about Ka...kalo...na?' that was an odd word.
"Ummm..." he began to feel worried "I just came here to cool off, and I heard you." Looking to where the colt was standing he asked "What kind of training were you doing, I train too..." he hoped it might help to talk with the colt.
"Umm..." he felt awful with how he sounded "I... I don't know" he paused before adding "I don't know they are" he hoped he sounded right. He wanted to know the strangers name but was to afraid to ask fearful that he would have to give his own name.

Vartan tilted his head to the side, and gave the other foal a long, dispassionate, searching look. Kalonas like his annoying brother were masters of deception. The other colt might only be pretending to be confused. But if Vartan played along, then he might be able to lure it into a false sense of security.
"Hmm? Kalonas are Soquili that eat meat. Even other Soquili. They're evil."
He splashed forward, into more shallow water.
"That bone mask on your face is the sort of thing a Kalona might have. Those things on your back, too. But you don't look very hungry, so I suppose you're not one."
Vartan smiled winsomely.
"I was training for dexterity by trying to hit the fishes. What sort of training do you do?"
If Vartan could learn some Kalona training secrets, he would be set for sure! Zevach would be pleased with him.

He felt worried with the look the other colt was giving him... he did his best to cover it up and look tougher then he felt.
"They eat meat?!" he tried to contain the shock of it all but the fact that they ate other Soquili was too much. "How could they eat something that is like them... that is nasty..."
He got distracted by the colts movement into shallow water.
He quickly looked down at his reflection in the water noting the characteristics mentioned. He could feel his mind race with questions, was he part Kalona? The hungry comment made relax a little, and true he had no urge to eat meat of any sort but he had never really tried.
He nodded "I'm not hungry so I guess not" he laughed shortly.
He froze as the colt explained his actions and what he was doing it for...
"I train to run fast and to keep it up" he continued "I run around all over the place, sometimes I hit objects..." he was still trying to figure out how to avoid the objects but had decided to ignore giving out that bit of into.
