((xD sorry for tacky subject title))

Ikkume had exited the enclosed territory of his new pack, taking up his familiar grounds in the freeland forests. The pack was still getting organized, and he really had nothing to do while he waited for the others to find their dens and settle in. Not that he couldn't settle in himself, but unlike most of the others he had no one to settle with. And so, leaving the other wolves to do as they pleased together, he chose to return to the freelands in a sort of "goodbye".

The sandy male trotted about the dense foliage, following the scent of water. He figured he could also suffice himself with a small meal, as several critters amused themselves near the water's edge. The air bore an unsettling wind carrying news of storms, and so Ikku had already resolved to make his outing a quick one and return the the packlands before rain started. He didn't want to be caught finding shelter at the last moment, as he hated travelling in the rain.

The heavy air smelled of the coming rain, causing Starla to stop where she had been wandering. Her coat looked strange and fuzzy among the broken forest light. White ears flickered back and her tail lowered near the ground. Water...oh how she hated it. This fear tugged at her heart. Shifting violet eyes, she glanced about.

She scrambled forward, darting through the trees, staying as close to their trunks as she good. Searching for shelter, her emotions were not masked as of now. Though she wasn''t at the point of panic, she was rather frightened. She continued to look...for a cave, a log hallow, anything she could stay in. Destracted as she was, she did not notice the scent of another drawing near.

Ikkume finds the stream he'd been following and trots up to the edge, lapping at the surface, but his eyes and ears still flitted about. His ear flinched as a fat drop falls just on top of the male's head. He lifted his head and took a deep breath, an array of scents passing through his nose. The smell of rain was rank in the air, obviously Ikku had miscalculated, and the weather was much closer than first realized. With a quick decision to forego his meal, he glanced about for a quick and easy shelter. The sandy wolf had very little desire to be out in the rain. Unlike many of his friends, being wet and all the discomforts which accompany it was one of his most unfavored conditions.

Even as he turned to atleast duck into the dense woods, the stream's surface steadily became more and more marred by encroaching rain drops. The shower came quite suddenly and very forcefully, catching the dusty male by surprise. Keeping beneath the firs as best he could while he traveled, he searched for a more permanent and effective means of shelter. With a flutter of hope, Ikku noticed a very old looking fallen tree with a massive entanglement of thick roots. As he looked closer, he could tell that the large trunk had long since been hollowed out. Compared to where he was stationed now, the old log looked very comfortable and dry. He dashed out from beneath the branches and shook off the stray drops from his coat just before he ducked inside the hollow. Surprisingly, it was very dry. The bark was damp on the outside, but the inside layer of wood was quite resistant to the moisture in the air it seemed. There were a few knots and holes in the sides, but none that particularly leaked rain water. Looking down the opposite end from which he had entered, he noticed that the other side was blocked by something, though he wasn't sure what. The log was a decent length enough for 3 adult wolves to lay horizontally. The bottom of it was worn smooth and flat, most likely from other animals who found it just as convenient a shelter as Ikkume did now.

As the male sniffed about the hollow, still having to duck just a bit, he noticed a flash of misplaced yellow out in the woods. Cocking his head curiously, he breathed in the air and tried to sort out scents from the tangle of rain. And then he discovered that indeed another wolf was caught in this sudden downpoor. He must have missed her earlier while he was preoccupied with finding shelter. Noticing she was apparently distraught, he barked in an attempt to guide her towards shelter. The log seemed plenty big enough for two wolves to escape the rain until it passed on, and Ikku didn't mind sharing his time with company.

Fear settled into her body as the chill of the rain did, causing shutters to ripple over her. Water, oh how Starla hated it! Blood rushed through her, pounding in her ears and only contridicting the cold of the air around her. Such was her panic that she almost did not hear the bark in her direction. Shivering and turning her head slightly, white ears pressed back, she saw another wolf taking cover within a log. Without thought, which was very rare for her, she darted forward, slipping and sliding in the forming mud and spattering it about with her frantic paw movements. She ducked into the hollow, hitting the wall of the inside of the trunk with a thump and pressing herself against it as if she wanted to sink into it's surface.

((@.@ sorry I haven't been on, very busy u.u))

Ikkume realized her urgency with just enough time to move to the side as the striped wolf came very well sliding into the hollow. The dusty male glanced over at her now as she leaned panting against the inside wall. Her paws were covered in fresh mud, and small brown specks were spattered all over her underbelly and sides. She seemed pretty well soaked, and incredibly uncomfortable by it. "Uh..." Ikku started to speak, but decided against it. There really wasn't anything he could say at the moment, the femme acted otherwise perturbed and unwanting of conversation. Ikku didn't feel like sparking any bad tempers, so she moved to a further end of the log to give her some space and lied down. His auburn eyes stayed on the striped femme, waiting for her to become settled so he could perhaps get to know her, seeing as how he really had no idea how long this rain would last.

(( S'ok. :3 ))

Despite Ikkume's silent hopes, Starla did not settle down. She breath did not slow and she continued to shake violently about, sending small feint shudders through the log itself. She seemed histarical, but silently so. So distracted was she that she didn't notice the other wolf within the hallow.

Ikku grew slightly worried about the femme as she continued to shake. If anything she seemed to be working herself up more rather than calming down. "Are you okay?" he asked carefully, his tone concerned. Something must be bothering her, he couldn't imagine that rain could cause this much grief in a wolf. He didn't much care for rain either, but this was obviously different...

Cold violet eyes snapped away from the rain and moved backward, glaring at Ikku with the same intensity that had been used upon the water. A harsh, shuttering breath was forced out through her cletched jaws and her body stiffened even more then before. She just stared at him, her body still trembling in trama. However, the angle she seemed to take made her seem rather frightening. She was not a wolf simply afraid of something...she seemed as if she had violently lost it.

Ikkume's hackles rose warily at the femme's sudden edge. He stood up, not in any threatening manner, but maybe just to remind her he was bigger than her. His soft amber eyes held her violent gaze, studying her. "What's your name?" he asks rather abruptly, his head cocking to the side in general curiosity as he sat back and allowed his long tail to curl around his feet.

Letting out a nother hiff of a quick breath she snapped her eyes back round to the rainwater coming down outside. She was stuck within a log with a male larger then she-that didn't say much because EVERYONE was larger then she was unless you counted pups, but still. He was a full grown male and she could not flee out into the water ridden air. She'd have to stay, despite how she wanted to leave. Looking back at him she watched him with restlessness in her eyes, her teen still gritted together, but hidden behind her closed lips.

Ikkume's ears twitched as she looked away. Obviously she was ignoring him, and it upset him a little that she wouldn't atleast grant him some sort of explanation. He sighed, "I guess you'd prefer to sit in here with this thick awkward silence boring down on us instead of the rain? I don't see why you can't atleast give me your name. I'm Ikkume," he kept his eyes on her for the most part, but shifted his weight back and forth between his paws restlessly.

Starla looked back out at the rain, trying to calm down. Her brows remained knitted together and seemed to refuse to come appart. Her tail would not become smooth as it clung closely to her body. She rank of fear and frustration and her voice was coated with it as well, "I'd rather do anything then be out in the rain." It was a surprise she said anything, but she had.

Of course, the first thing that popped into the male's mind was the question "why", but he could practically smell the reaction he'd get if he asked any further. And so he gave a sigh, "Well then I'm glad you managed to escape, and I'd hate to see what would have happened to you had there been nothing to escape to." There was some edge in his response, which he generally added without thought when he was trying to teach a lesson. This one was fairly simple, though well hidden: you can't always successfully run away from your fears, the best you can do is make the most of whatever situation is delt.

Oh, yes, he sure would hate too...for she would have gone nuts...who knows what crazy actions she would have taken had she been forced to get wet. However, she barely heard his comment. No matter how much she tried to stay focused and calm she was stuck within her fear and distraction. She barely noticed he spoke, let alone tried to figure out what the meaning beind his words were. She shuttered and fell silent again, staring out at the rain. She wished it would just...stop.

Unfortunately wishes don't come true nearly that easily. The rain continued to beat at the ground mercilessly, and Ikku was a little hung up on the way this femme was so hung up on the rain. What could have made her so afraid? He could only assume something bad happened when she was younger and now she's forever corresponding that bad memory with the rain. That was easy to deduce, but it would take alot more information for him to figure anything else out.

Whatever the case, he wasn't going to let himself get caught on analyzing the poor younger female. Instead, he tried to brainstorm a way to distract her from her fears. A part of him was saying it wasn't a good idea, and that he really shouldn't get involved--just wait quietly until the rained stopped and they could go their seperate ways. But obviously he wasn't concerning himself with that side of himself at the moment, "So since you won't give me a name, I suppose I'll just come up with something to call you in the meantime... Does Lizzy sound okay? I saw a lizzard once that had black and yellow stripes..." Not that he really expected her to respond to him, but if nothing else he could hear himself talk.
