This is the second installment in the plot we began in Halloween of 2006. It is open to all Fa'e, their Guardians, and any interested lurkers, but acknowledge the following before entering:

1. This is not a nice, cute, open-ended roleplay. Things might get messy, characters might get hurt. Although we will generally check to make sure that it is okay before anyone would be seriously injured, please do not enter this roleplay without accepting the strong possibility that something negative, and maybe even permanent, can happen to your character.
2. This is not an official shop event, just something that some of the Guardians are running. Arrien, Cerena and Black Duvet are the GMs for this, and we're going to be making the calls insofar as the story arc this represents.
3. You can be as active or inactive as you need once the event begins, but characters who are active throughout it will get more GM attention. Characters that are inactive will be considered "in hiding" when things get messy, and will not be in any danger of having BAD THINGS happening to them unless they become active again.
4. Some happenings will be character-specific; setup from the last event is going to lead to certain events here, and other tie-ins will occur. It's not that we're trying to favor certain characters, but that people have approached us with ideas and we've worked with them. If you have ideas for your character in relation to the event, all you have to do is let us know, and we're plenty happy to work with other people's genius to make things interesting!

Many businesses not related to machines, mass-production, and forever love lady have snatched up plots in the more suburban areas of Aekea and set up ranks. Big Al's Lasertag Emporium is no exception. Although there is only one arena in the building, it is one of the larger and more elaborate setups in all of Gaia. (Big Al's main competitors, Langley's Lasertag and Don't Point That At Your Eye, house three or more arenas about the size of a cat's litterbox.) The emporium is easily accessable via public transportation, teleportation, and rocket-powered rollerskates.

Visitors to Big Al's Lasertag Emporium will walk through a short entrance hall before entering the lobby. To the right of the entrance is a rather underwhelming arcade room sparsely filled with broken setups and games from the sixties ("The best time o' my life, let me tell ya," Big Al wheezes, heavily placing his hand on a pinball machine for emphasis, which causes it to tilt exactly thirty-nine degrees to the left); to the left, the restrooms. The rest of the lobby is filled with tables and chairs, and the right side of the room boasts a considerably large snack bar. Directly across from the entrance hall is the door to the preparation room - a small, rectangular space where patrons are sat down by Al himself and enlightened of the benefits of hunting one's own food and exactly how to shoot a 35MM double-gage bee gun before being suited up and thrust into the arena through a door to the left.

Map Key:
=: Door. The bottom-left corner is the regular entrance from the main building, the top-right is an emergency exit that leads directly outside.
B: Base. Top-left is blue team's base, bottom-right is red team's.
Red or Blue Circles: Targets. In addition to scoring points by shooting members of the other team, players can score a greater number of points at a time by shooting either the big targets at the opposing team's recharge station, or the smaller, harder-to-hit target visible either through grates on the second floor bridge or up on the ceiling from underneath the second floor.
Green Circles: Pillars. The rules of the arena forbid players from climbing these.
Pink Walls: Low walls, about as high as a dining table. Players can duck behind these for cover, and still be able to shoot over them.
Green Walls: High walls, reaching from the floor to the ceiling. These are good cover and can be shot around, but also obscure vision.
Yellow: Ramps leading from the first floor to the second floor. These are solid and cannot be hidden beneath.
Light Blue Walls: Covered tunnel. There are no windows, and the lights are a little dimmer here.
Orange Floor: The platform "bridge" hanging over the middle of the arena. There are moderate walls along all sides of the bridge, which allow players to shoot at the other team on the first floor while not risking being shot over. Climbing on or leaning over these railings is against the rules, for obvious reasons.

HOW TO PLAY LASERTAG

Players are evenly divided into two teams- "red" and "blue". They wear vests with glowing red or blue lights on the chest, shoulder, and back. Attached with a thick cord is a laser gun which fires harmless beams of light.

The lights on the vests are targets, which may be tagged by the other team for points. Chest shots get you 15 points, back gets you 10 points, and the small shoulder targets get 50 points.

You can also score points by shooting the targets at the team's base (200 points) or the smaller target under the bridge/through the grate (100 points). Shooting either of these sets off an alarm to call the base's defenders, and they can only be shot every few seconds.

Wearing the vest, there is a small display on its front which is angled so that the wearer can glance down and see it. This display will show you your lives, ammo, and total score, like this:

10 | 60 | 0

10 is the maximum lives, 60 the maximum ammo, and there is no maximum score.

When you run out of lives or ammo, you are unable to shoot. You can still be shot, but no one can get points from shooting you.

By returning to your team's base, you can replenish your lives and ammo to full.

ARENA RULES

Keep both hands on your gun at all times!
No running, crawling, jumping, or roughhousing!
No climbing the obstacles!
Keep a distance of at least 3 feet from other players!
The game begins when the music starts. When the music ends, head out of the arena!
If you run into technical difficulties (non-functioning guns or whatnot), just leave the arena and you will receive a voucher for a free game!

OTHER ARENA NOTES

The only light inside the arena is provided by black lights, which makes it easy to see the flashing lights on the vests of the other teams.
A fog machine makes it hard to see more than several yards.
The walls and obstacles are all made of a soft plastic over a bit of cushioning, over metal girders. You won't hurt yourself too much by slamming into them, unless you're really unlucky and slam right into the girder.

PLOT UPDATE ONE

The Fa'e have gathered for a good ol' fashioned laser tag game at Big Al's Lasertag Emporium. They've split into teams and the game's just started, but is there something a little odd going on with one of the Fa'e?... probably just nerves?

PLOT UPDATE TWO

Rat hit a sudden growth spurt, as has his hunger. The Abyss (or Rabyss, as it seems to be a less powerful manifestation of the Thing That Took Over the Fa'e HQ That One Time, but very dangerous nonetheless) has quickly spread over the small arena and awakened creatures that seem to want to play a different game altogether.

Rabyss absorbed Mitsu's vest into itself, splitting it into four (called 'the Happy Cube' by the other Abyssal creatures) figures and scattering them amongst the arena. A defensive maneuver, perhaps? Are we even still playing laser tag? ...And do these figures seem familiar to anyone?

The Doctor has taken up residence in the Red Base -- he calls it the Clinic -- and Sei narrowly escapes being 'fixed'. Fortunately the Doctor seems unable to leave it; unfortunately, Lethe's vest glitched and blasted her head off, leaving it for his nurse, 'Dolly', to collect and Lucretia to try and grab back.

When Amaris ventures over to a window overlooking the arena to see how the game is going, she doesn't see anything amiss -- everyone is smiling very widely, playing very nicely, and shaking hands quite vigorously.

Meanwhile, in the real arena, an unconcious Caoi is being unwittingly serenaded by a small barbershop trio of horrors, Shai is unwillingly being felt up by the hands in the walls, and no one is probably ever going to go to a Fa'e party ever again.

(All right guys, we're at an unexpected standstill until Cere and BD and I can all be online to work on things at the same time. <3 Sorry to make you wait, but thanks for being patient!)
