He'd been searching for a few days now and finally he had found the exact one he wanted. He hadn't wanted to settle for second best, not for Rehema, and the feather was an important symbol of being a part of the pride.
Now that he and Rehema were official members, she deserved a feather too. And he knew the exact colour. A soft purple to contrast with her beautiful pelt and merge with the colour of her eyes.
And now he had found it he was extremely happy and he was moving swiftly towards the den, carrying it as gentle as he could in his mouth.
Rehema was enjoying a nice stretch against the slouched trunk of a small tree. Her long form arched and stretched as her claws dug into the soft bark. It felt wonderful, and the huntress knew that just before and after a hunt it was important- she'd experienced tight muscles before, it was hardly worth it the morning after.
Giving a loud yawn, the female slowly settled herself back down to her paws and began licking down from her shoulder.

When she came into view he paused to glance at her. She was so beautiful, so wonderful. He asked himself whether he was in a dream and that he'd wake up to find himself alone on the pathway to the promised lands again.
But this was real.
Above his head he heard the call of an avian. At first he thought it was Kucha, but he hadn't heard from her for a while. Maybe she'd taken flight and left the lands. But he thought it odd she'd leave without saying goodbye.
And then he was moving back towards her, moving with a spring in his step. He couldn't make a sound because of the feather in his mouth, so when he got close enough he rested it amongst the grass and moved to greet her, a low 'prrrum' at his throat.
"Enjoy your nap?" He smiled.
Rehema slowly turned her head towards her mate. Instantly her maw pulled back into a cool, loving smile. Her eyes narrowed softly on his form. He was still quite small, but he had a stronger frame now, a thick, proud mane, and a confident step. He'd grown so much from the shy little male she'd first encountered. The female's chest swelled with pride.
"Yes of course." She purred right back, smothly gathering herself to her paws and walking over towards her little tatooed mate, "It's much better knowing I now sleep at home- our home."
She nudged Ona's shoulder lightly with her own, a playful gesture that had become a greeting between her and her mate. "Where have you been?"

Home. He'd never tire of hearing that word. Never tiring of thinking it. He hugged the sentiment close to his heart and nursed it, willing his joy to grow.
"I've been out and about, searching for something very important." He smiled a secret smile. "Wait here a moment whilst I go and get it for you." And without another word he trotted back towards the grass where he had left the feather and lifted it gently in his maw. Then, slowly, he turned around and headed back towards her, the feather bright in the clear sunshine.
When he was close again he rested the feather at her paws and spoke again. "For you." His heart thumped. He hoped she liked it.
"Oh you have have you?" She lifted an eyebrow. He was adorable... he sounded so pleased with himself, so eager, so accomplished. Perhaps he was out hunting? The young male had been getting quite good recently.
"Very well." She sat herself down and rolled her shoulders back, eyeing Ona as he pranced himself through the grass. As he turned, the lioness couldn't help but gasp softly.
"Oh Ona..." She reached a paw out to gently touch the feather, "...oh it's beautiful...thank you."

It had been hunting, or a sort. But not for food. For a gift. A symbolic gesture to ensure that she felt a part of the pride.
Her response was better than he could have imagined and he purred, nuzzling her softly. "I thought the colour would suit you. I spent so long searching for the right one for you." It'd made him realise just how many diverse birds lived or flew past the lands. And, without realising, he imagined little feathers hanging off the ears of his own children.
"I'm glad you like it." He replied softly."You deserve that feather more than anyone, for all that you've done to help me."
"Oh now now." She chuckled and nudged him with her paw a bit, "You flatter me. You took me and Malik in when we needed someone most....we were wounded and weak, you gave us a home. Me a home anyway."
She leaned forward and licked the side of his face, "Now I have to get you something."

"Then we both did something to help one another. Either way I'll never forget it. You brought me courage and confidence. You taught me so many things even without meaning too, maybe." He smiled warmly and settled beside her, catching her tail in his.
"You don't have to get me anything. I'm hapy already just having you." He flicked an ear.
"I never thought I'd be happy like this. When mother and father died and I had no one, I thought I was destined for sadness. But now...now there is hope."
She smiled over to him then playfully rolled herself over to lay on his back, her belly facing the sun, "Well for one- I didn't give you courage. You had it inside you all along, you just had to be put into a position where you realized it."
"Secondly." She stretched out a bit, snatching his tail, "There is always hope."

He smiled, trying to turn his head to gaze back at her. The closeness was something he treasured, something he had never had before meeting her. "Well, thank you anyway. I wouldn't have realized it was there if you hadn't been by my side. You and Malik."
He briefly wondered how the golden lion was doing on his quest. But he knew Malik would be okay. He was big and strong and determined. Nothing could beat him.
"Mmm." He agreed to her second comment. "I love you, Rehema."

"Silly boy." She chuckled softly and rolled herself to lay beside him, her head arched back to rest against Ona's shoulder. "I love you too. I suppose now I'm official."
She reached her paw out and snatched the feather lightly, holding it up for a second inspection, "You sure go through a lot of trouble for me."

"Yes." He replied softly. "You are." He moved over and licked her ears, pressing his cheek to the top of her head. Chuckling at her reply he turned to look at her, smiling warmly. "You, trouble? Never." He buffeted his head against her then rolled onto his side in the grass.
"Nothing is ever too much trouble for you." He yawned then. The sun was making him drowsy and the idea of sleep was good, especially when he felt this happy.
He shifted his head against the grass, glanced up at her and smiled. He doubted anyone could be as happy as he was right now.
