A dim glow of light cast upon the face of a sleeping mare caused her eye lids to flutter open in protest. She squinted ahead of her; the silver orbs trying to adjust to the drastic change from black to the golden rays of the sun beaming down upon her. Auri shut her eyelids tightly, hoping to block out the light as she gave a long yawn before allowing them to open once more. The mare looked around her a few moments, seeing that most of the forest was still veiled in shadow. A few golden rays of the sun were peaking through the holes in the canopy; she judged that it was sometime between early morning and noon. The mare rose gracefully to her hooves and she swished her tail and rustled her wings, hoping any offending leaves or grass would have been shaken off in her movements. Auri began moving at a brisk walk, perking her ears forward in attempt to distinguish any sound of water that may assist her to locate a nearby stream or lake that she would be able to quench her thirst in. After meandering between trees for what must have been a quarter of an hour she picked up the sound of gently running water. She made toward that direction and shortly after came upon the tiny brook running through the forest. Auri lowered her muzzle and eagerly sipped the cool liquid. She mused to herself that the day was already growing quite warm and she should probably stay within the shaded area of the forest in attempt to stay somewhat cool. Perhaps she would even venture to the lake for a dip and a chance to stretch her feathery wings. The mare continued to ponder through her thoughts, becoming unaware of the scenery around her.

The stallion walked heavily along the dewy morning field. He had spent the night in a new place, and was looking forward to exploring his new surroundings today. But first, he needed something to eat and drink. He set off towards a nearby forest in hopes of finding a lake or a stream, and maybe a fruit tree in there somewhere.

The mare had herself to ponder for a few minutes before a sudden craving struck her fancy. Instead of heading toward the lake near the center of the forest the ebony mare turned in the direction that led out of the forest and into the clearing and the areas beyond that. However, Auri only wanted to reach the edge of the forest where she knew a little groove that existed and was away lush during this time of year. Black berries, raspberries, and blue berries all were present in the petite groove she knew of and her taste buds had suddenly craved the fruit. She continued ambling through the forest at a leisurely pace, certain that she was in not rush to arrive there.
After some time had passed the mare entered the patch by the outskirts of the forest that was lush with the bushes bearing the delectable berries. Her silver eyes scanned about quickly before she walked over to a black berry bush; attempting not to step on any berries that lingered on the ground with her hooves.

Zian moved through the trees, allowing his nose to lead him to where he could detect the scent of some ripe berries. He could tell that they were nearby, and it wasn't long before he found himself on the edge of a clearing that seemed to harbor many berry bushes. However, he stopped at the edge of the clearing, having noticed that there was already a mare there enjoying the fruit. He cleared his throat quietly, not wanting to startle her, before speaking.
"Excuse me, but I hope I am not intruding, but I was wondering if I might have some of these berries."
His expression was kind, but revealed little about how he was feeling. It was almost blank, but by looking at him, you could somehow tell that he meant no harm.

"Hm?" Auri said looking over her shoulder as she heard a voice behind her. The mare gave a warm smile to the stallion and nodded to him. "You're not disturbing me. Besides, I don't own these bushes so even if I did object to your presence I wouldn't be able to do anything about it." She laughed to the stallion in a gleeful tone. Her silver eyes held a sparkle to them as she spoke. "Please help yourself." She motioned to the plentiful bushes in the area, encouraging him to subdue his hunger with the sweet fruit.
Looking back in front of her the mare daintily nibbled at a few berried before speaking to the stallion who she knew was standing off to her side. "Not many venture to this part of the forest," She began. "Since this patch of berry bushes is relatively unknown to most." Auri was glad that someone else had stumbled into the groove, it was nice to have company every once in a while.

He smiled politely at her. She seemed to be a very kind mare indeed. That was good. At least he would have some pleasant company while he ate.
"True, you do not own these bushes, but I still would not want to intrude. Perhaps you wanted to eat alone, in which case I would have happily left. But since you are so welcoming, I will join you."
He smiled and bowed his head slightly before moving over to one of the bushes and sniffed out the ripe berries and picked some off the bush, tasting the wonderful juice in his mouth.
"Well, I have not been here before, but I was searching for something different to eat this morning. I am glad I found such a nice place. Do you often eat here alone?"

"That is very courteous of you." Auri told him with a smile. "Most wouldn't care about whether or not they were disturbing someone else if a source of nourishment was on their mind. Or perhaps I am simply ignorant on the matter and that is just a misconception I have allowed myself to believe." The smile still lingered on her face. "I try to be amicable to everyone... Or at least I hope I do." A weary look appeared on her face and she released a nervous giggle. "It may not always be easy, but generally I do make an effort." Auri wished she had bitten her tongue to keep herself from saying such conceited things to the stallion.
"You are a lucky one to have stumbled across it then as I once did." She thought back to her first venture to the groove. "These berries are some of the sweetest I have ever come to find." Auri gave a small nod, more to herself than the stallion; as if confirming her statement. "I don't know if I would call it often..." A pensive tone to her voice. "Though whenever I am in the mood for berries, yes. The area is generally empty when I journey here, though I usually have my wolf companion Lux with me. So he keeps me company when I eat most of the time."

Zian took the compliment humbly, bowing his head in polite acknowledgment as he continued to eat. The berries were indeed delicious. He was glad that he had found such delicious fruit to eat this morning.
"That is a good thing to try and do. It doesn't do anybody any good to be in a bad mood and treat others harshly. I like to think that I try and act in a similar way. I don't like to bother others. Being a pest or overly stubborn can only lead to conflict."
He looked around when she mentioned her wolf companion. She had never heard of such a pairing. Most of the wolves he had met had thought of his kind as a feast, taking the abundant meat when they were strong enough to bring one of his kind down. But then again, he was in new lands, and perhaps the creatures were different here.
"That is very interesting. I have never heard of one of our kind having a wolf as a companion. What is he like?"
