This is my first 'book' I'm writing, so I probably will have a lot of room for improvement. Constructive criticism is highly appreciated, and begged for! I WILL finish this, so if I don`t post for a while, it's either due to writer's block, or family/school matters. Feel free to suggest some things as far as plot/characters; if I like your ideas I'll work them into the story. I might start another project after a bit and update both of them, so I'll tell you if I do it. The story starts next post! AUTHOR'S CURRENT COMMENTS (spoiler alert. don't read unless you've read all of FoA so far)
The current fight between Josh and Doug is supposed to be a desperate battle for Josh. James' aid is to show the strong bond between the brothers. This story will take the path of an action novel, more like a series, with main villains and short breaks in between them. The cast of characters will eventually be plentiful, and quite vivid. Feel free to donate to me if you like my work! By the way, my other work, Destructive Criticism, is up now! It's more of a side-project as of now, so don't expect updates to be too frequent. I will update the 'Current Comments' section frequently, so check back here if you would like to know some extra information about Flames of Ambition!
Was James Ashwood really defeated by Doug Tyler's gang? What plan does Doug have in store for Josh. Will I spend some time on an actual plot? The only question I can answer at this point is the last one. Yes, I will.
Yeah, the Blue Hawk part sucks. I just needed a way to get them in the hospital as patients. And I do plan on using the event for something later on.

Fire. Like a burning passion, it destroys everything in its path, anything that dares try to stop it. This fire, it can do more than destroy. It warms the things around it, melting the thickest ice.
8:15. Loud music blared from an alarm clock. A boy layed in his bed, motionless. Not even pig squeals and metal growls could penetrate through to his sleeping mind. The boy snored loudly with his mouth open. A large snot bubble shrank and grew as he breathed. The bubble suddenly popped and sent snot all over his face. The boy unconsciously licked his lips and swallowed his boogers. A particularly large one got stuck in his throat. The teenager coughed the booger out and went right back to Dream Land. The projectile snot hit his alarm clock with enough force to switch it from CD mode to radio mode. Having never been used before, the radio was on a rap station by default. "Aaah, shut it off!" The boy finally was awake. He got out of his bed and grabbed his alarm clock. "Shut up, dammit!" He dropped the clock and booted it through his bedroom window.
"8:25...I'm late!" This somewhat odd boy jumped through his broken window and dashed off in a straight line, not even botheting to change his clothes. Living in the suburbs, the traffic on the way to school was usually pretty bad. But by this time, practically no cars were on the roads. The bizzare teenager had the bright idea of running on the roads, straight down the lanes. He miraculously was not hit by a speeding car.
When he finally got to his highschool, it was already 9:00. He followed his usual routine of walking to the back of the school. He opened a window and jumped through. "I'm too badass to use doors!" He landed right in his seat in the class he would normally be in according to his schedule. "Joshua Ashwood!" The teacher looked infuriated. "Yo, Teach!" He held up his fingers in the peace sign. As usual, the whole class was laughing hysterically. And, as usual, he was sent to the principal's office.

On his way to the principal's office, he stopped in the bathroom to relieve himself of some bodily fluids. He stood in front of a urinal and got to business. "Ahh...!" He slumped against the urinal because he had been in dire need of a toilet. He zipped up and walked into an open stall to flush the toilet if the last user had forgotten to do so themselves. He just happened to notice something scratched onto the side of the stall. He read it out loud. "I'll show you...you'll all die...big explosion...tomorrow..." The person in the stall next to him dashed out into the hallway. "Josh is gonna blow up the school!" "What?!" Teachers came running out of their rooms. "Wait, it wasn't me! I was just reading it out loud! I don't even have anything sharp or anything!" He showed that his pockets were empty, which seemed to be enough proof. "Check your sign-out sheets. Then you'll find the real culprit!" The teachers returned to their rooms and came back out shortly. "Strange...no one signed out today..." "No one except for Doug Tyler!" Everyone turned to the teacher who had just spoken. Doug Tyler. The biggest, strongest, meanest bully in school.
After school ended for the day, Josh decided to visit his girlfriend Cindy. He entered her house through a window and was greeted by Cindy's parents, who both wore the same solemn expression. "Cindy's not home yet...she called us on her cellphone, and she said something about some 'Doug Tyler'..." Without saying a word, Josh smashed through the window and ran back to school. "Doug Tyler!"
As he expected, Doug was waiting for him in front of the school. Some of his goons were holding Cindy hostage. Josh stared down his fearsome opponent, and his gaze was met. "Let her go!" Josh's fists were clenched. Doug replied with just a smirk. Josh mad a mad dash toward the bully. "I'll kick your a**!" He was struck hard and sent on his back by a kick to the face. He quickly got up, but he was sent right back down.

Doug was looking to be too much for Josh to handle. Josh was currently laying on his back with Doug's foot continuously slamming into his chest. But he was not about to give up. He would never give up. He found the strength to grab the other boy's foot and sending him spinning to the ground. However, the bully caught himself and was quick to get back up. Josh had used this valuable time also to get back on his feet. He let out a yell as his fist slammed into its target's face. The bully took the blow and swung his leg out, but the attack was countered by a dropkick to the chest. Both boys were back on the ground. Josh seemed to be the most injured of the two. His opponent was still in shock from the unexpected counterattack, so the luckily agile boy was up first. Joshua Ashwood looked down at his fallen opponent. He raised his foot to make sure he wouldn't try anything funny, but he was tackled by another bully before he could make his first move. They rolled on the ground, exchanging fists. Josh punched the other boy square in the jaw. The thug was stunned, giving Josh an opportunity to stand up and stomp on him. That was one down, but there were still four to go.
A drop kick was aimed at Josh's face. He grabbed the boy's leg and tossed him aside easily. The next minion charged him, but was evaded leap-frog style. The two boys came at him together. There was a sudden thwack! and both attackers hit the ground. Josh looked up at his brother. "James!" James Ashwood stood taller than Josh, and his was naturally an odd light blue, where Josh's was plain old brown. "How'd you know I was here, bro?" "I figured you were at Cindy's, so I went to check on you and her parents told me everything. You're so predictable." The brothers both laughed together. "So now I get to beat the crap out of both of you!" Doug was back on his feet, smirking at them. "This is gonna be fun!" His three remaining goons rushed the Ashwood brothers.

Punches. Kicks. Yells. Screams. Blood. Two brothers fighting three well known bullies. Despite the difference in numbers, the fight looked to be even. But another boy had yet to enter the fray, the leader of the pack of bullies. "Josh, you get Doug! I'll take care of these punks!" "Alright, James!" Josh dashed at Doug. A kick. A grab. A flip. Pain. Josh found himself back on the ground. "Dammit...why am I always on my back? I have to get back up! I can't give up! If I don't want to be on my back, I'll knock my opponent out before they have a chance to!" He stood back up and glared at his challenger. "Here, I've been practing this one!" A fist slammed into Doug's stomach. Another into his chin. Another hit his shoulder. Struck his ribs. Punch after puch asxaulted the unsuspecting boy. "Try my Fists of Fury!" He continued his bombardment of lightning-fast strikes. Josh's opponent staggered, but he caught himself before he fell. "Hmph! Fists of Fury? How lame!" His words contradicted his broken ribs and bloody face. He sent out a high sweeping kick and caught the side of his head.

James Ashwood had just finished planting his foot some one's back. He looked up just in time to catch a fist and twist until he heard the bones crack. The two brothers had only beaten two of the five other boys so far. Things were starting to look bad. The blue haired boy ran into the school and was, of course, pursued by the two boys. The brawl continued in the hallways of the school. Blood spattered on the walls and stained the floors.
"I said...I won't fall again!" Josh had successfully blocked Doug Tyler's kick. His nose was bleeding and he had a black eye, but that wasn't near enough to stop his tremendous courage. The various bruises all over his body didn't change that fact. "Doug...I'll never forgive you for kidnapping Cindy!" A hard punch sent the larger boy flying. He hit the ground hard and looked up at Josh. "You little punk!" He slowly found the strength to pull himself back up. "I'm not beaten yet!" Josh gulped. How much damage could this guy take? He'd taken all of his attacks full-force, and he still had some fight left in him. Josh figured that he had just enough energy to do one more Fists of Fury. But Doug already knew that attack too well, so the problem was making an opportunity to use it.
Mr. Mack's classroom was destroyed. Desks were tossed everywhere, pencils and chalk erasers littered the floor. James Ashwood was spread out in the middle of the floor. Two other boys were celebrating their hard-won victory. A small puddle of water formed at the nearest boy's feet. It was too small to even notice in the trashed room.

Doug wasn't going to take any chances. The safest plan was to not let Josh get close enough to use that attack again. He planned to just kick at Josh if he tried to close the distance between them. Some might call him cowardly, but Doug didn't care about that anymore.
The puddle of water around the boy's feet slowly expanded. He looked down. "What the hell? Is there a leak or something?" He looked up...and was struck square in the chin by a sudden rush of water. He was knocked out cold. The other boy freaked out. He had just seen a geyser of water erupt from a small puddle. That wasn't exactly an everyday thing, not even in the Ashwood house. "What was that?!" James Ashwood was up on one knee. "I don't know...but it was cool, wasn't it?" He smirked.

Josh ran at Dou, but was easily evaded. He tried again and again, but the result never changed. Josh was tiring himself out even more than he already was, and he wasn't doing any damage to Doug Tyler. "Cheap b*****d!" This wasn't going anywhere. About five minutes had already passed since he started rushing the other boy. He made another desperate attempt at the boy. Tyler avoid him. Josh tumbled to the ground from exhaustion. He rolled onto his back in time to see the bully walked up to him, smirking wildly. "You really thought you had a chance against me? Well, think again!" Josh's foot lashed out before anything more could happen. The other boy lost his balance and fell toward Josh. Before he felt the crushing impact of a larger boy fall on top of him, he sent out a flurry of punches. "C'mon..." The force of his blows was slowly pushing Doug up. "Just a little more..." Josh was up on one knee. He had been feeling a sort of burning sensation in his heart, and it was stronger than ever now. A sort of 'flaming ambition'. His hands sudden caught fire. It took him a second to notice; he didn't really feel anything. "You're finished! Flaming Fists of Fury!" He continued his rapid strikes with his flaming hands. He sprang up into a final, devastating uppercut. Doug Tyler flew five feet into the air and landed about three feet away.
James Ashwood left the school from the front entrance. Mr Mack's room was flooded with water and occupied by two unconscious bullies. He looked around; he smelled something burning. His eyes bugged out of his head. "Josh, what the hell'd you do this time?!" A large area of grass around the school was on fire. Josh scratched his head and sweatdropped. "I kinda accidentally set the grass on fire...well anyway, let's go get some help! That guy over there's not looking too good." Of course, he meant Doug.

James looked over at Doug and then back at Josh. "What the hell did you do to him?" "Simple. I kicked his a**! And somehow the whole place caught on fire..." "Where did the fire even come from?" He sighed when he received no answer from his brother. He decided to simply put the fire out with his water powers. But nothing happened. "Umm...yeah, let's go!"
Minutes later, the school was surrounded by firetrucks, ambulances, and the media. Josh had to lie about the whole story; no one would believe the truth.
The Ashwood brothers found themselves in Doug Tyler's room in the hospital. Their parents had forced them to go visit him. There wasn't really any point, since the bully had not regained consciousness yet.
Yells. Screams. Shouts. Gunshots. A robbery was in progress at a nearby bank. An infamous criminal known as The Blue Hawk held a pistol in one hand while a rifle was hanging on a strap around his neck. He was wearing his trademark blue sweats and blue ski mask. The 'Hawk' part of his name came from his impressive sniping ability, even without using a scope, like a swift and accurate hawk swooping down to catch its unsuspecting prey. The Hawk liked to pick off some guards beffore running in with his guns blazing. And now he was at the 'guns blazing' part. Numerous dead bodies already littered the floor.
Victims were being rushed into the hospital. Jame s and Josh were headed down to the cafeteria when they saw an endless amount of patients being rushed this way and that way. "What's going on?" A passing patient weakly turned his head to face them. "I was helping victims...at the bank..." The brothers looked at each other and ran down the hall.

When the brothers arrived at the bank, the building was surrounded by police cars. An officer yelled at them when they got too close to the scene. "Run away, kids! It's too dangerous! You look like you're already hurt, anyway!" "No way, man! We have to go in there!" "Sorry, kids. I can't let you near the bank." "Sorry, officer, but we have no choice!" The boys jumped into the nearest police car. Josh took the driver's seat, much to James's disapproval. "Hey, kids! Get out of there!" Josh put the pedal to the mettle and plowed through the glass doors of the bank. The Blue Hawk turned around and just about crapped his pants. The brothers bailed out of the car, but not before each taking a few shots from the robber. The car slammed into the Hawk, easily knocking him unconscious.
The Ashwood brothers were back in the hospital, but this time was because they were the patients. The cops had already yelled at them about how completely reckless their actions were, but they were thankful for their capturing of a murderous criminal. The doctor said that they would both need to be hospitalized for a while.

"Man, this sucks!" Josh Ashwood complained to his brother James Ashwood, who was hospitalized in the same room as him. A bullet had shattered Josh's shoulder and another just missed his heart; he was lucky to be alive. But that didn't stop him from being his usual self. He suddenly had a 'great idea'. He pressed a button on a small device on the side of his bed. About thirty seconds later, an attractive young nurse walked into the room. Josh smiled happily. "Sweet, the hot nurse! Show us your tits!" Josh was in heaven as his wish was granted. The nurse pulled her shirt down and silently walked out of the room.
"Dude did you see that?! The hot nurse just totally flashed us!" "Of course I saw it! Why would I miss a perfect pair like that? But don't tell anyone about this; we don't wanna get her fired or anything." "Yeah, but who wouldn't do something like that for us? We're, like, heroes, man! Babeland, here I come!" "Yeah, but don't you already have Cindy? What happened to her, anyway?" "Oh, that b***h? She was here earlier; you were still totally passed out. She called me a 'stupid brute' and dumped me. I'm too good for her, anyway! I got me some hot nurse boobs!" "Yes, that you do."
"Hey, bro, did anything weird happen today?" "Depends what you mean by 'weird'. If you mean driving a car into a bank robbing murderer, then yeah, something weird happened to me today." "No, I mean like...did you get some kind of weird feeling, like you can't ever lose no matter what, and then something strange happened?" "Actually, yeah, I-" James was cut off by a nurse bringing them their dinner; sadly, it wasn't the hot one. "Yay, hospital food!" Josh said sarcastically, earning him a stern look from the nurse. She suddenly smiled devilishly. "I hearf you guys like stuff like this?" She lifted up her shirt.
Pethaps now would be a good time to describe the appearance of this nurse. She was short, fat, and hairy. Need I go into more detail? Needless to say, both brothers puked.

The Ashwood brothers were both unconscious for the next several hours. When James woke up, he found that all of the food on his tray was missing. "Josh, you a*****e!" "Sorry, bro! That stuff was good cold!" He laughed, earning himself a glare from his brother. "Man, what time is it now?" Josh looked at his wristwatch. "One in the morning! There go our sleep cycles. That damn nasty b***h!" "Dude...don't remind me..." James's face turned a sickly green. "Eww, don't yack again! It smells bad enough already!" However, Josh's wishes were not fulfilled tjis time. "Dude, that's sick! And not the good 'sick', the nasty one!"

Thunder crashed and lightning flashed outside of the hospital. "What's up with this wicked storm? It's kinda random...I heard they've been popping up all over the place, and they're totally unpredictable!" "Yeah, and the weirdest thing is that even though the clouds get so dark and thick, there's no rain or anything at all. That's not even possible, is it?" "Don't ask me, I get straight D's! You're the straight A student." "Yeah, and I'm smart enough to not burn the school down!" "Hey, I didn't burn the school down! Just everything around it! I don't even know how I did it!" "But you seem pretty sure that it was your fault, so you have to know what might have started the fire!" "Hey, man, you know I don't like it when you go all Phoenix Wright on me!" "Objection! I think that was more like Apollo Justice." "James, you're such a douchebag!"

Josh turned on the TV in their hospital room. "Something tells me we should look into what's causing these storms." "They probably won't say, even if they know. You know how the government likes to cover things up." "Yeah, but if it is something like that, we might be able to find some sort of clue. There must be something they overlooked...these storms can't be natural."
As they watched, multiple similar storms were reported with a reasonable distance of each other. "Josh, I think I found something. Notice how all of the storms are in places where something of value is kept. They're all near banks and goldsmiths and such." "So you think someone's using these storms somehow to rob places?" "That's the only reasonable explaination. Nothing we can do about it now, though. We should use our hospital time to gather some more information and figure out what the hell's going on."
That night, James was doing research on his laptop. Their parents had brought it from home, with permission. "These storms have been popping up all over the world. The strange part is that there seem to be isolated groups of 'attacks'. For example, There were some attacks in western Asia, and then they moved East to Japan and came back West and eventually came back here. But the times of the storms and the distances between them are practically impossible for a human to do. So now we should think about how this can be possible to do. If we figure that out, we just need to find out who's capable of that. Then we'll have our culprit." "Dude, James, you're a genius! But you said 'culprit'. An -d you also said that it's impossible for a human. There's always the possibility that this is all just a big coincidence. Or maybe it's a mutant! Or aliens!" They both laughed.

Doctor James King walked into the room just to check up on them; he had been by the room anyway. "So, how are you guys doing?" "Us? We're good. Been tryin' to figure out what's up with these weird storms. Know anything about it, doc?" "Nothing beyond basic knowledge. So, did you figure anything out yet?" James Ashwood looked up from his computer. "No, not yet." Just to be cautious, he wasn't about to reveal his findings yet. "Two James's should only be in the same room for so long, or it gets confusing. Get lost." James didn't like to be interrupted while he was working on something. The doctor gulped. "Oh...okay, see you guys later!" He left the room rather quickly and made sure to close the door behind him.
Josh fell asleep while James kept researching things about the storms.
When Josh woke up the next morning, James was still on his computer, still wearing the same intense look on his face. Josh blinked. "You didn't sleep at all last night, did you?" "Nope." "Did you find any new info?" "Nope. Just that the government actually is trying to cover something up. And they're doing a damn good job of it, too. I couldn't hack through their security systems. Whatever's going on, they don't want anybody to find out about it. It looks like they've deleted everything on the web that says that the storms aren't completely natural. They're being extremely cautious about this whole thing. Whatever's going on, it's something bad. I'm starting to worry that even if we do find out what's happening, there's nothing two teenagers like us will be able to do about it." "Hey, don't talk like that! We got that robber guy didn't we?" "Yeah, but look where it got us. Who ever's behind this will be a lot tougher to beat than some robber. Even if it was the famous Blue Hawk, I wouldn't say it was I fair fight." "Yeah, but I have fire!" "I that you burnt the schoolgrounds down, but now's not the time for your jokes." "I'm not joking! I can- oh, whatever. You wouldn't listen, anyway."
