Darkfire looked up at the brilliant orange sky, glancing back at the blackness behind her before grinning crookedly. Sunset. Her second favorite time of day. Dark, rolling clouds were behind her, making the air slightly damper than it should have been. A heavy rain was on its way.
Small creatures, basically nothing but fuzz and guts, would be scampering for their homes. She'd be excited by this fact if she was hungry, but she was still licking the remnants of her last meal, a deer, from her lips and taloned wings. She had used her wings to pin down the deer, along with her hooves, while she carefully tore its throat out. Didn't want to damage anything she could eat. The meat was a little stringy and tough for her taste, but it did the job well; she felt the satisfying pull of a full stomach on her eyelids, yawning a little sleepily.
There was no shelter around here besides a conveniently placed cave in the side of the rocks, deep and tall. The perfect hiding place for the Unikalona mare to wait, sleep, and plan.
You're so disgusting, the unicorn side of her hissed in her head as she licked the final drops of blood off of her wing with a sigh. It was a mighty fine kill, the Kalona side of her said proudly. Darkfire could picture the ruby-red Kalona, identical to her in every way (minus the horn) puffing out her chest proudly. It made the unicorn side of her gag.
"You both need to just be quiet," Darkfire snapped at herself, a deep growl rising from in her chest. She didn't like it when the two voices spoke; it made her thoughts wander, and then what use was she? She compared herself when her mind was wandering to a huge metal weapon she saw two-leggers use, but without the little metal things that were driven into the flesh of whatever the two-legger was aiming at.
Shaking her wings slightly, Darkfire easily made it into the cave, settling down near the back in a clump of well-worn weeds. Someone else had been here before her, but by the smell of it, they had been gone for a long while.

Aglaia looked to the sky as thunder rolled from the clouds, her nose catching scent of rain that fell in the distance. She mumbled to herself as she thought of the mud and muck she'd have to walk through to get home. She didn't know what was worse, having to forge through the dirt or staying at home where Scythe knew every move she made.
She'd been out of her basket for weeks now, and he still didn't like her going too far. She smirked a bit at the thought of him, worried and pacing if she didn't make it home by dark. "Old fool..." she muttered.
Her eyes peered up to the sky again, the sun was setting and she was in unfamiliar territory. Perhaps she should have stayed closer to home today... so much for the after though. Her small legs began to move just a bit quicker as the sun fell lower and lower towards the horizon. She was a bratty child, but definately not a brave one. Scythe had warned her of creatures that came out after dark. She had never found herself alone and far from home once the sun completely disappeared. She whimpered a bit as she hurried her pace again, almost to a slow trot.

Darkfire had almost drifted int a restless, uncomfortable sleep, when a slight draft brought a new scent to her nostrils. Her ears pricked up and her tail began thrashing violently before she could even register what she had scented; the irresistable perfume of a lone foal.
It was too good to be true.
Why would a foal be out by itself this late at night? The sun had almost completely set, she could tell by the little amount of light coming from the mouth of the cave.
She didn't question it any further. She had to take advantage of the situation, to strike while she still had enough light to make the foal fearful. There was nothing more delicious and luscious than fear.
Standing swiftly and quietly, Darkfire whisked out of the cave, silent. Even if she had been noisy, the thunder that rolled not too far off would have covered even the loudest curse word. She spotted the foal before she had the slightest chance of being seen; a dark little filly. There was a challenge with this prey; her dark coat would be the filly's greatest advantage when Darkfire hunted with sight alone. Good thing she hadn't injured her nose or her ears in any past struggles.
Darkfire decided for a different approach this time. She popped out of the bushes just as the filly passed, a crooked grin on her face.
"Hello!" she cried, her excitement hiding her malice easily.
This is too much, complained her unicorn side, fading out slightly at the end. Then ignore it, said her Kalona side, its excitement causing it to be a little snappy, although joyous and excited.

The filly hadn't heard the mare creeping up on her, her mind filled with thoughts of what could be out there lurking. She didn't realize that her worst fear lay in wait only steps ahead.
Aglaia's eyes scanned the darkening horizon, she'd never make it home at this pace. Scythe was going to be so upset with her.
Just as she passed a row of bushes, a vibrant red figure jumped out before her, almost causing her to loose her footing. Aglaia screamed out of fright and stutter stepped to the side, then took a few quick paces back. Her eyes had yet to adjust on the figure standing there.
As they adjusted, her heart began to pound and her eyes widened..."Kalona!" she paniced. Aglaia knew she'd be no match, but hopefully she could hide. Scythe had warned her. Without a word, Agala dug her hooves into the earth, trying her damned'est to get away from the mare. She didn't want to die, not tonight.
(It's been almost two weeks since activity in this rp. I'm going to consider it stalled. Please PM if you wish to continue.)

"Wait, young one!" Darkfire called after the filly, not a hint of malice or hunger in her voice. To Kalona-Darkfire's ears, it sounded rather... motherly. Oh, she had sunk to a new low. How disgusting.
You're a better actor than I would've suspected, Kalona-Darkfire spat in her ear, and Darkfire could almost feel the corners of her mouth lift up in a half-smile.
Almost.
"I didn't mean to frighten you, I am no Kalona," she called to the filly soothingly, standing her ground. Didn't want to be too intimidating. She wasn't up for much of a chase at the moment, the deer she had eaten earlier making her belly feel swollen, though it didn't look it.
A grin spread across her face, trying to be inviting, though it crept across her lips like poison ivy and made her look a tad crazy. Moreso.
"Come back, my name is Darkfire, I don't want to hurt you," she called in her sickeningly-sweet voice.
Yet, Kalona-Darkfire hissed in her ear.

She heard the mare calling out to her, she didn't sound mean....
No, no...Scythe had always told her...Kalonas are not nice, they'd eat her! But.... Aglaia's gait slowed just a bit, she looked back, seeing that the mare hadn't even moved to chase after her. That, reassured her...just a bit. She stopped.
"You look Kalona!" Aglaia called out in a questioning manner, her eyes looking over Darkfire's features.....Yes, she surely looked Kalona to the filly.
She stood there motionless, debating whether or not to trust the stranger. "How do I know you won't eat me?"
