User ImageIt was night, the moon was high in the sky and through out the land, the wind was low and the trees rustled. Juniper's red eyes seemed to glow in the moon light as he moved along, silent as ever, dodging saplings and bushes alike. The blue hued male was small for a full grown male, but what he lacked in size, he made up in attitude.

He might as well be a lone wolf; but he wanted a pack. He wanted his own pack and needed a strong, tough female to be his mate. He stopped on a gentle hill, looking out at the vastness of the dark nature. This was his time; time to prowl and kill or fish if he needed too. Tonight, though, he had no luck in seeing anything work eating. And it caused him to growl in frustration. He'd have to scavenge. He hated scavenging.

Giving himself a mighty shake, he continued on his slow pace, eyes looking for anything moving, or any signs of a carcass that wasn't completely consumed. When Juniper was hungry, he was snappy and a real bully. Often or not, he'd encountered a few foxes who had suffered his wrath and had been lucky enough to escape with their lives.

Just when he was fixing to turn, he spotted a rabbit that seemed hesitant to go out of it's den. It looked big, probably a male in search of food for his mate to feed her babes. Perfect.

Stalking was second nature to him, he crouched in the grass and moved silently, fur whispering like the wind that blew occasionally.

Snap!

The rabbit took off when Juniper had stepped on a twig. Launching himself into a full run, he attempted to zig and zag with the rabbit and caught up with it. His teeth sank down into one of his back legs when the rabbit kicked out and it was over.

The rabbit went down and his paw came to pin the rabbit by his stomach as his teeth sank into the rabbit's throat, blood filling his mouth like honey. Still kicking, he lifted the rabbit up, planning on carrying it back to his 'den' which was hardly more than a whole in the bush.

Twix was having a bad night, a restless night she had been feeling restless for a long time. She stood and shook off lightly before slipping out of the den, the caramel colored wolf took one more look down at the barely moonlit forms of her family. She loved them all dearly, except that pink female her brother had fallen head over heels with. Even so she felt a duty to them, but of late she had also felt something missing for herself. She shoved aside the unwanted emotions and moved out of the pack lands with a brisk trot.

Crimson eyes scanned over the unfamiliar area but her nose told her it was unclaimed, safe for her to hunt and run beneath the moon. She knew her family would be puzzled by her solitary venture, it was not in her nature to leave the pack at all. She inhaled and smiled at the scent of fresh rabbit, but it seemed someone had beaten her to it, curiously she followed to see if the scent of one would lead her to more. She almost hoped to bump into another wolf, to have a little company perhaps. She snorted, no, no, no she didn't need any company but her own and her family's.

Her legs carried her along until she spotted a streak of blue moving into the bushes ahead. She let out a soft sigh, it seemed her hopes for a rabbit had already been taken by another. Her nose wrinkled a bit, a lone male, she loathed males for in her mind she feared that they would turn her as foolish and lovesick as her brother was for that pink female. Her lips raised a bit in a silent snarl before she moved to sniff around to follow his trail back to the rabbits den hoping to catch what hadn't been scared off. She wished she had brought her friendly fox with her, he was always an aid in her solitary hunting endeavors both so his scouting and his company.

A snort got his attention in the quiet night. It seemed to be carried by the wind, and only just put him on alert. He quickly dug a whole and buried the rabbit in his den, in a far corner and stuck his head out, a growl coming on his lips as his fangs bared. Yes, it was unclaimed by a pack, but he'd claimed it for himself.

All he saw was caramel and bright red before he came out at a run. There was another wolf in his territory and he was going to defend it. He went at a sprint, growling before coming to a stop by sliding in the grass a few feet from the.... female? He sniffed, and confirmed it. Female. "Get out of here," his voice was gruff and low, almost a rumbling growl. Obviously, it wasn't a request, but a command, expecting it to be followed as if he'd once belonged to some pack and was high ranking.

His father had kicked him out for bullying the other wolves, even the Seers. "Back away and you'll have your life. That is my rabbit den and this is my strip of land." He started to circle the female, watching her closely for any signs that she'd attack. If she so much as moved wrong, he'd be on her faster than flies to a warthog.

Twix turned as she heard the lone wolf rushing her, instantly her ears fell back and a the silent snarl of before erupted into sound. She frowned as the male slid and sniffed but his tone as he ordered her away, as if he had any say. A grumble escaped her throat again as she moved to face him, she might have wandered off quietly but not tonight, not after his tone, his insult, and her restlessness.

"Your strip of land? Hardly! Your just a lone male with a hole to sleep in, and I won't be ordered away or anywhere by YOU." She huffed and threw her head up proudly defiant. Her eyes gleamed with sudden malice. This was one of those males she disliked so much, the type who would want a female to order about with such a cocky tone. She eyed him looking for something she could insult, she was no expert in wounding with words, her fangs served her better for such a purpose.

"Your terribly small, I probably should leave you to eat that rabbit, you NEED it." She gave a smirk her crimson eyes flashing.

He'd been getting short comments his whole life, why let one affect him now/ He didn't. Instead, Juniper just laughed at her petty insults and bowed up, preparing for a lunge. "Look here, woman. Get out of my territory and away from my den, before I'll have to hurt you." He wouldn't kill her. Useless killing never solved anything, did it?

Slowly, the male started to circle her, noticing her beautiful pelt and eyes that matched his own crimson ones. He had marked this place with his scent, but it probably washed away due to the recent rain. He hadn't gotten back to marking it again. Drats.

Twix gave a sniff of distain and watched the male circle her, she was not afraid only cautious. Her muscles bunched and quivered beneath her thick caramel pelt ready for action. She had spent so much time in the pack, hunting, running, patrolling. Twix was confident but she felt bad thinking about hurting this lone male, lones had it hard enough didn't they? She thought of the comforts of her family, her pack, a large warm den, never a concern for food.

She huffed at the male and shook off "This land is not yours, but I'll leave you to your meal...I'm sure I could find better."

He'd know the comfort of a pack a long, long time ago, when he was but a pup, to long to remember he did. Slowly, he started to relax and he shook himself. confident the girl would leave him to his misery. Still, he laid down away from her and watched her. She looked like she was raised in a close pack. She looked like she'd never been starved like he was. He was on the thin side as well as small.

He licked at his muzzle, the remains of the rabbit blood gone, now. "What's it like? Being a pampered brat? Living in a pack that babies to the pups needs and wishes?"

She turned and sat down less wary of him now as he asked her his question, despite the harsh phrasing. She smiled softly and relaxed a bit, it wasn't so hard to explain after all.

"It's wonderful, your pack is your family, and they care for you as much as you care for them...at least thats how it is for us. We never have to worry for lack of food, and should the need arise for a fight, your never really alone. The pups grow healthy and happy and when they become older we teach them from all we have learned so that they don't make some of the harsh mistakes we have. The power of knowledge is passed on to strengthen our future lines." She gave a proud smile, despite having no pups of her own Twix was a proud aunt, she loved her nieces and adored her cousins children as well.

"The den is always roomy enough to sprawl in and warm enough despite it, we curls close with each other when the winter comes, and keep food stored on our territory as well. Each member gives what they can and together we flourish quite well." She gave a pleased stretch.

Family, safe and love were things he'd never understood. He'd never been love, safe or liked by family. He was bossy and snappish, and Juniper just envied every dog that came from a strong pack. He couldn't even remember the name of his own anymore it had been so long. Crimson eyes closed as he listened to her, the rage in his head stilling to a tranquil thought. Would he start his own pack?

That was what he was striving for, but the females he'd met weren't up to par with what he wanted in them. He wanted someone strong. He wanted a strong pack with even stronger bonds. Ruthless killers, but towards each other, family, all smiles and no tension. He wanted there to be no question in ranks. But to do that, he needed a female.

Looking over the female, Juniper snorted and got back up, giving himself a shake. "Sounds like it would make a lot of weaknesses. Kill of pups, and leave parents heartbroken, then kill off the parents when they wander around. Not hard. It's like dividing a family of rabbits, kill the weak, go for the bigger ones later." He stared at her rather rudely and grimaced. "Look, Princess, leave me and my dinner, take one rabbit for yourself and leave. I'll kill you as soon as look at you next time."

"Of course YOU would think that, your a loner. You don't understand that a pack supports each members and works as a unit. Kill the pups, if you can get near a den but they will turn to steel and come with vengeance in their hearts. Its never worth it to try and split up a good pack, you'll only make them stronger for all their trials." She grinned at him and let her tail flip out with a smirk. She knew her family, her pack was united in this way. They cared for one another no matter the issue, she had even taken Alas' adopted pups to her heart never treating them any different. That was family.

She grinned at his stare and chuckled at the term princess, it hardly applied to the caramel female, she was a guard in her pack, Alas was the princess. Crunch was her king. She frowned a bit at that, she still wasn't too happy about Alas and Crunch's love, but she didn't know why, was it because she realized how...lonely she was. She growled and shoved the thought away. "Look loner you couldn't kill me even on your best day!" She huffed and turned kicking the rabbit carcass back at his face.

"Take your scraps, and move on in the morning."

"I'll move along when I feel like it, female," he bit out, growling low in his chest. This female was so irritating! Had he ever met one that could challenge him like this? No, perhaps that is what intrigued him. Not knowing the female's name, he looked to the carcass and then rolled his eyes. She was very mature. Stupid females. This just went to prove his logic of males were smarter and less problematic than females.

Shifting, he bit into the rabbit again, letting the meat roll on his tongue as he chewed, blood dripping down his maw. Did he care? No. It was his rabbit, his den and his land. He'd still be here in the morning so long as the rabbit kept up.

Twix turned at the edge of the sparse forest to watch the male, she was going to have to return in the night and in the morning to make sure he was gone. A part of her wanted to stay and watch him, she told herself it was to make sure he didn't enroach on the pack lands anymore or cause trouble. Yet there was something in his sharp tongue that made her fur bristle, she wanted to stay and continue their verbal spar.

She snorted at her own thoughts and slunk away her fox slipping up behind her and following in her pawprints.

Juniper watched as the female slipped away from him and he tossed the rabbit away from him. No, he wouldn't eat it after she'd touched it. How could he? Rage bubbled up in Juniper and he wanted to snap at her neck or rip her ear. Something so that stupid female would learn her place. But not now. He'd bide his time. "I'll get you, female..." he growled out.
