Blitz had grown bored f watching all the other foals around him burst into adults. He didn't understand why he had to remain so small and week while they went on to better things. His mother had told him that he must be patient, that he must wait for his time will come and he should be glad he is taking longer to mature physically.
Being already mentally matured for the most part, he sighed. He had grown bored with the two fillies he had made friends with, they didn't interest him with their games of tag and hide and go seek any longer. Blitz was in no way a small foal but he knew he wasn't an adult yet. Being one of the larger foals he had always felt a bit at peace with it but now that all the colts where now adults it seemed, he felt a bit out of place. Sighing he looked into the small trickling stream that was beside him. Listening to the water fall across and over the rocks, sliding towards and away from him. Starring into his own blurred reflection.

"Masquerade! Paper faces on parade . . . Masquerade! Hide your face, so the world will never find you! Masquerade! Every face a different shade . . . Masquerade! Look around - there's another mask behind you!"Little Masquerade loved to sing, and she had a beautiful voice for it too that only made things all the better for her. The kalona lashed her tail and dove at a rabbit her fangs snapping clsoed behind it's tail, throwing back her head she let out an insane giggle and tossed her short mane. The world didn't know what it was getting into with this one, she'd been named perfectly by her mother for she was a masquerade .. lesseres never got to see what was truely beneath her sickninly sweet facade until she grew bored of them. She pranced her hooves touching the ground so lightly they barely seemed to touch the earth beneath them. She could smell water .. ad with that water .. another soquili, lesser bo doubt. Masquerade giggled "Oh today is gonna be soo much fun!!" She tossed her mane and continued towards Blitz still singing her song... "Masquerade! Paper faces on parade . . . Masquerade! Hide your face, so the world will never find you! Masquerade! Every face a different shade . . . Masquerade! Look around - there's another mask behind you!"

Blitz could hear the sound of singing and looked up from his reflection. Looking in the general direction of it he could see a strange creature bounding towards him. His purple gaze looked over to her in wonder. Definitely another Soquili but what was she?
Her wings where odd, not like his mothers, though she bore a horn in the middle of her head like his mothers. She also seemed to have cloven hooves like his mother and a similar tail to her, though spaded at the end. As she drew nearer he noticed her other horns. They looked off and almost blood stained as well as from the base of her wings spikes seemed to stick out spikes. Looking over her he also noticed as she drew near her white glowing eyes.
Indeed Blitz did look like a pure bred lesser but in his family was also the unicorn and Winged. Though no kalona blood, he didn't even know what a kalona was, but he was about to find out soon enough it would seem. Not greeting her he just looked over, his black rimmed eyes watching her intently.

She almost didn't seem to notice him at first and just kept singing as she trotted along. Then she stopped and stared silently at him her ominous white eyes seeming to pierce right through him "what? ain't seen a kalona before?" She flicked her long spaded tail and grinned manically at him her pearly fangs glittering.
She flared her wings and the black semi-transparent leather stretched wide between the brown flesh covered bones. Little blue flares of flames streaked up the tops of her legs and a light dusting of sparkles shone on the deep rich brown coat.
Her little blue hooves stamped the earth and she moved over to the stream and drank the cool water.
Her horns gleamed dangerous in the light and she folded her wings back down protecting the soft leather.

" Honestly, I've never me one. My mother has told me stories about your kind though.... I thought a Kalona would look more menacing then enchanting"
He smiled lightly before going back to his reflection looking at it. How plain he felt. His siblings all had something special while he was left alone to his own ways, looking as plane as the day was bright. In his opinion any way, he was nothing special and knew this. He could also tell that this female would be able to tell this too. Especially since he recalled his mother telling him how they thought that they where 'higher' beings. But so did every other creature that was without wings or horns. As he thought more on this he began to think. Perhaps he was special, there weren't as many plain foals around such as himself now where there.
His name was a tactical one, and yet he seemed so quiet as he was absorbed in his thoughts, looking into the water before him.

She eyed him silently, though how one would know with those pupiless eyes was a wonder. "Can kalonas not be enchanting and cruel? My mother is completely and utterly insane and amazingly beautiful. All in all we're still a higher race than all others" she tossed her mane and flicked her tail grinning "but maybe we aren't all the same?"
There was a double edge to her voice, something about her wasn't right, something screamed wolf in sheep's clothing. Maybe it was that crazy grin, or those ominous glowing eyes .. the blood stained horns? It was always said that you could judge a book by it's cover.
Masquerade sauntered towards Blitz still grinning and now fluttering her lashes "I'm 'Masquerade'" her name bit down like the sour taste of a lemon again there seemed something not right about her "and you are?"
In her own imagination she could already taste the sweet red blood pumping in his veins, but she had to keep playing the game, gain his trust then strike him down. That was the way this game was played, as long as he stayed interesting he would be safe for a while.

Acting nonchalantly Blitz grinned. As he looked into the small rippling stream he could see her looking at him. He may of not seemed interested in what she had to say but he was just gathering and absorbing every bit of information she was giving him. He could sense some trickery but for the time being she had his interest. When she lost it he would also leave, he had decided. Looking up for a brief moment, after admiring her enchanting appearance in the water he spoke.
" Well i suppose you can be. Who am I to judge what you are? And perhaps your race is the greater race, no one will really know that... well other then you of coarse"
Blitz had decided that he would practice the game of flattery. He was in such a hurry to become a stallion that in his mind he thought 'perhaps if i try to act more grown up, i will in turn grow faster'. Again he looked down into the cool ever flowing depths of the water and smiled as he listened to her name. He knew full well what it meant and so decided to play it safe and take precautions around her. The edge in her voice only added to his nervous anticipation of how she really was. SMiling a cunning smile he kept his eyes down to the waters reflection and said cooly.
" I am Blitzkreig. Just call my Blitz though, it seems less tricky to most and prefured by most."

Masquerade giggled and shook her mane flicking her spaded tail she walked around him her tail twitched and seemed to be about to leave when she stopped and turned slowly around. In less than a few moments she'd gone from ominous to terribly sweet looking, it was a trick she'd inherited from her mother. She could look completely innocent and sweet.
The glow from her eyes had dimmed slightly it seemed and she was smiling sweetly "we know we're the best, it's in our genes." She flicked her ears and wondered back towards him.
"Blitzkrieg is it? That's a German name ... my mother is German"
She smiled again and flicked her tail "I think German's have some of the most musical names .."
She giggled, she was rattling on and on, but that was fine if it got him to trust her more and dare to get to close then it could just be all more to her game.

Getting up from being down looking into the water, he still was able to tower over the filly if it wasn't for her wings. He dared not get close to her as he could see flashes of her behavior and seemed to see that something was not right. Perhaps she was bi-polar though it wouldn't surprise him. He was told Kalona's attitudes could switch like that.
Still the Colt smiled to her, going along with her attitude. He didnt know it at the time that she was using him for entertainment, but this was the reason she was interesting to him. He figured he would be able to play along with her attitudes. Changing his when she changed. Smiling he put on a more sadistic look and snorted,
" But of coarse, only the great race would know they are great. I am but an unfortunate one who lacks the tenacity to lead, only always ever to fallow."
Watching her for any further changes, and being weary of how she would reply he gave a small grin and spoke proudly, impressed that she knew what it was derived from,
" I must say i am surprised. Not many know what my name is from.. tell me do you know the meaning?"
Pausing momentarily he listened to how she seemed to hold German names in high regard and replied to her bit of charm she had laid out before him,
" well German is one of the more musical cultures, and by the sweetness of your voice when you sang, it was very evident the cultural background your blood possessed."

She flared her little wings, they weren't yet strong enough to lift her from the ground, but she exercised them everyday making them stronger and stronger so she could fly soon. She tossed her little mane and watched him., for now at least he was keeping her interest so she decided it wasn't worth it to kill him ... yet anyway.
She snorted, tossed her mane and cackled "one never has to follow if one doesn't want, strike out on thy own path and do thy on thing?" She ran her tongue over her fangs and lips still grinning.
"I can't remember the actual term, but a blitzkrieg is a sudden and quick war." She grinned crazily again and flicked her ears back and forth. A rabbit was nearby ... well at least it was time to show hi that she may be civil now ... but she was still kalona.
The rabbit made the mistake of bolting to close to her and Masquerade rammed the spade of her tail into it's spine killing the little bunny instantly.
She shivered in delight at the sound of it's strangled cry of pain before it died and moved the carcass between her forelegs. Still watching him she lowered her head and took a huge chunk out of it's side.

He laughed somewhat and looked up to the clouds, letting his short colt tail bob from side to side in anticipation. He could feel something was about to happen. But what it was he did not know at that exact moment. Breathing and snorting a bit he waited till she was finished to answer.
This is an easier thing for you to say Masquerade. You where blessed with a looks and attributes i do not have and can never acquire. I am of coarse referring to the oddities on your body that i wish i had."
He smiled his charming little colt smile and thought about her next question. Blitz had gone over it so many times in his head of what it meant and what it was. Practically, already the colt knew his names meaning by heart. And perhaps because of its meaning, he would of done better if he had been born as she was.
" Yes, it was Blitzkrieg means "lightening war". It was a tactic based on speed and surprise"
Smiling he watched her closely. Suddenly he too seen the bunny but it was to late. As soon as it had gotten to close, she impaled it. Watching her in a fascinated nature he wondered. Thinking for a moment or two on weather he should ask the question he was pondering, he went and asked it any way.
" Do Kalona eat grass at all? Or any vegetation at all? Or do they rely on just meat?"

She chewed on the flesh in her mouth and swallowed licking the blood off her muzzle, "there's nothing to special about me." Lowering her head she ripped another hunk of flesh off the carcass and dipped the spade of her tail into the stream to clean it. She grinned as the water ran red for a moment and giggled.
"Most of the time they are the bet wars, take out your enemy as swiftly as possible with minimum damage to yourself."
She nodded her head in a sage like manner and ripped off yet another hunk of meat her head cocking at his next words.
"I believe so .. I've never heard of a kalona living on greens ... well .. maybe weak half-lings .. but they are just disgraceful hideous beings worse than lessers."
She growled at the thought of half-lings, her mother had told her that her own father was technically a half-ling but neither of them cared because he ACTED like a pure blooded not these prissy flower picking half-lings.
