The sun had yet to go down on the lands and already Shade was playing her games, she had prowled caught and now was hunting her prey.

The poor stallion ahead of her was running as fast as he could, but that bum leg would not let him escape the kalona mare that was hot on his heels.

Shade's lips curl back over her fangs in a grotesque smile as she closed her eyes drinking in the sounds and smells of her hunt.

The squeals of horror, piercing cries of pain, and begs of mercy all mingled with the smell of fear, blood, and sweat that battled to overload her senses. Ahead she could see the forest thinning out into the prairie lands and that was where she ended it. Charging forward like greased lightning she rammed her twin horns into one of his hind legs and watched him fall like a sack of bricks.

As she stood above her prey, a young normal stallion whom had made the mistake of thinking HE was good enough for HER, she started contemplating all the things she could do to him .. of course she'd shred that pretty deep purple coat and take it back to her baskets as a blanket but what could she do while he was still alive?!

She giggled insanely as he kept begging her to let him go, not to kill hi that he'd never bother her again ... well, now he knew the error of his ways ... to bad dead stallions could tell no tales.

With a flick of her tail she swifted kicked him in the ribs revealing in the sickening cracks and cry of pain she yanked from his throat. "Someday maybe you fools will learn to stay within your rank of mares that will move their tails aside for fools like you..." she let a sickeningly sweet tone into her voice and a mock sweetness that had drawn the stallion in for starters then laughed maniacally as she kicked again.

She loved playing these games with the lesser stallions; bait them, catch them hook line and sinker, then kill, steal and destroy.

Lifting a dainty blue hoof to strike again she heard the insistent rumble of her stomach that seemed to sound like the growling of a mother bear, who knew raising baskets could keep one so hungry?

"Oh well .. play times over then!" With swift accuracy she rammed her twin horns into his jugular and started skinning him as he died of suffocation.

He could smell that. That irony smell that came with only one thing. Blood. The stallion had smelt it before he had heard the screams. The pleas for life that seemed to ring out as he drew closer to the source.

Someone was on the hunt. And to him, they were too close to where Kosomot was. In fact, Valarauco would have to travel through the prairie to get to where his young son waited. And this just didn't settle very well with him. Whoever it was who was running down whatever lessor it was, was in his way. If Kosomot had heard the fray he more than likely would have ventured out into the open. And if whoever it was ahead happened to be Zulimar, well. Who knew exactly then what would happen.

The strong scent of blood and sweat filled his nostrils as the large, firey stallion broke the tree line. Eyes glowing dangerously as they locked in on a strange looking female and a lessor male. The sickening crack of the stallions ribs as the mare kicked him made his ears flick forward. A small sigh of relief in the far reaches of mind came. At least it hadn't been Kosomot. Valarauco cared for his son. As much as a Kalona father could care. The colt was part of him and he'd be damned if any harm came to him. He had to preserve his own race after all. The halflings needed to be weeded out.

But that was a discussion he had had many times with the few he had talked to. Especially Zulimar. That mare just didn't understand.

Though today it seemed that Valarauco just wasn't in much of a talking mood. Perhaps he had been all talked out ever since the last time he was with the mare. It was like talking to a wall in fact.

Stretching his wings out to their full length, he let out a small groan before folding them back tightly against his back. He'd leave this mare to what she was doing, unless she openly approached him. Which in all truth, he hoped she wouldn't. Kosomot was waiting. And that damn boy just didn't know how to sit still sometimes and wait. Paying no mind to the drama at hand, he made his way across the prairie. Heading for the beginnings of another tree line that expanded up to the foot hills of the mountains. His home.

((If you don't mind Im going to throw Masquerade in too in a moment ^^;;; ))

Shade was buried deep in her work skinning the lesser. That's when she heard the drum of hooves. She growled and her head jerked up, her baby was nearby and she had to protect Masquerade. Her eyes were narrowed to slits, but she relaxed at the appearance of another kalona, well at least he wasn't likely to attack herself or Masquerade.

She eyed the spot to which the stallion seemed to be heading and in which her daughter hid. "Greetings fellow kalona, be warned for your heading to the glade in which my daughter waits and I won' tolerate any danger to her." Shade's eyes were still narrowed but hit was obvious by her relaxed stance that she wasn't about to attack, she was just a mother on high alert.

A brisk breeze picked up her mane and she wrinkled her muzzle slightly, she hated when her mane got messed up and she had to comb it back into place.

She studied the stallion, he was different but easy enough on the eyes and a fine example of a pure raven blessed.

((Thats fine. I can toss Kosomot out as well if you'd like? 83))

Apparently keeping out of others business wasn't on the list of things today.

The stallion stopped. His own eyes narrowing as the Kalona mare addressed him. Eyes studied her for a few seconds. An ear perking as she spoke of her daughter in that direction. That means she had to have at least gotten somewhat close to Kosomot if she had hidden her own foal there.

The end of his long spaded tail flicked back and forth in a monotonous fashion. Irritatedly. His own eyes narrowing. "Then I'd suggest you move her. Your harboring your offspring too close to my home." Valarauco was not about to disclose the fact that his own son was hidden not too far away as well. And in all facts true, what area he claimed as his own was a fairly large expanse. But no one had challenged him for it and that amount of land was all he could really patrol constantly. The mountains he didn't stalk around in that much as few would come there in the first place.

Shade tossed her mane and sneered "I mean your home no harm brother kalona, so we'll stay in the prairie away from the woods, but we'll leave when we're ready." She flicked her own tail the bright blue spade traveling easily back and forth through the bright grass.

Her eyes slid to the small thicket right on the edge of the forest line where her daughter lay waiting for her call that all was safe.

Shade tossed her mane back as she turned her eyes back towards Valaruco. The movement made the chain between her two extra horns jingle its ominous tune. She loved that sound so dark and eerie even on the brightest days. Her eyes snapped back towards the thicket as she heard rustling then her daughter's musical voice.

She had to laugh, her daughter was over eager for dinner and young very young having just recently emerged from her basket, " I didn't call for you little demon" she rustle her daughters mane with the spade of her tail.

Shade loved her daughter immensely and wasn't to afraid to show it.

Masquerade wiggled in her thicket, she could hear momma saying her name, talking about her even so .. was it safe then?

There was another voice that was speaking with her mother, a masculine one but since Shade didn't sound angry or upset Masquerade decided she was coming out anyway.

With a flick of her spaded tail she climbed out of the ticket, brushing leaves from her mane with her horn. Then she spied it, the carcass laying on the ground "dinner!" The filly galloped towards her mother and the waiting meal, not seeming to be worried about the large kalona stallion near by.

Masquerade flicke her tail "I know mother, but you didn't seem upset, so I thought everything was okay." She grinned crazily at Shade eyed Valaruco for a moment then dug into the meal Shade had caught.

Valarauco didn't like her reply. He wanted them out. Now.

His tail snapped against the ground as the stallion became more agitated. And eyes shifted to the filly that had scampered out from the bushes. So, this was the strange female's child then? He watched their mannerisms. Certainly not what he would call an approved way of going about things. This child seemed too...chipper for his tastes.

Eyes soon shifted again to another direction as the sound of smaller hooves beating across the grass soon came to his ears. "Kosomot..." Grinding his teeth together, he cured his son's curiousness and impatient personality. But it seemed it couldn't be helped.

The young colt trotted forward. His small, spaded tail wrapping tightly around his father's larger tail. He knew what repercussions would come for not staying in place. But his father was taking too long and it has Kosomot wondering what was keeping him.

Narrowing his eyes, he stared at the Kalona mother and her filly. Wings flaring half way open as he moved closer to his father. Not one for strangers.

Shade's grin faded away as she lifted her head to eye the stallion standing near her. She seemed non-nonchalant but her glowing eyes held all the warning she needed, if he attacked or made a move against Masquerade she would not stand idly by. She didn't know if she could beat him, but it would give masquerade the chance to get away and that was all that mattered/

Her eyes to the colt that had appeared from the woods, so that was why he seemed so irked to have her nearby. Well she couldn't blame the stallion one bit for being protective as she had been.

Not changing her posture she turned her eyes back to Valaruco "you have a fine son."

Masquerade had settled into a more silent personality a sher mother did, and she continued to eat contentedly from her meal. That was until the other foal arrived and stayed close to his father's side. She wasn't nearly as close to her mother, they didn't share all the same views, though she did love her mother as much as a kalona could.

She gave the colt a slight nod in greeting before returning to her meal, ripping viciously at the flesh as if she thought that the creature might feel it i nit's afterlife.

The stallions upper lip curled upwards into a smirk. Sharp teeth revealing themselves now as they nearly glittered with saliva. Valarauco was--proud to say the least of his children. They had survived being born and with him whisking Kosomot away from Zulimar in the beginning he had ensured his lines survival. And he was not about to let any other creature destroy what he had worked for.

Glancing down at the colt who had now nearly pressed his small body against his legs, his eyes narrowed just slightly. "Of course he is. Any child from my blood would be nothing less than perfect. Though his skills in patience do need a little working on."

Kosomot gave no recognition to the older female or the filly. He had come for his father and had little time for anything else. Let alone standing about flapping one's mouth in idle chit chat. He never could understand why his father kept up what relations he had with the Kalona he did know. It seemed fruitless and they all, at least to him, were nothing more than a waste of time.

Many times his father had spoke of those who had strayed from the true path of Kalona. Breeding with those of impure blood. And to him, anyone others not of his own as he was assured by his father, would ever dare tread across those lines and help spread the filth that so plagued their kind.

Her tail flicked behind her as she eyed the seemingly untrusting colt, well that was good for the msot part atleast not all kalona would respect the foals of another. Her ears flicked back towards Valaruco as he spoke about his bloodline, he was proud of this fact and with this colt it seemed to be true. "That fact can easilly be seen in your foal," she tossed her mane slightly her transparent wings fluttered against her back.

"It is nice to see so many true kalona foals being born recently, to many creatures of mixed blood are being birthed." A soft hiss echoed in Shade's chest and her lips curled up in a snarl to show her fangs for a brief moment before she relaxed into a quiet almost boredom oncemore.

Masquerade only listened in silence to the adults as she continued to rip and shred at her meal. Her brown tail flicked boredly behind her, this wasn't her idea of a good time she would have been much happier hunting down these half-bloods. The very thought of them brought a snarl to her lips and a growl out of her throat.

She didn't care if they looked at her for the growl or what they thought was on her mind. She tossed her blue mane slightly little brown ears turning flat back against the back of her head.

She snareld again and pawed the ground with a bright blue hoof and shook her head making her three horns gleam.
