im so tired of people saying that ... and you know what drives me crazy? the only reason why it doesn't count for PE credits (like all the rest of the sports) at my school is because my teacher doesn't have the credentials to teach PE ... isn't that stupid?

Haha Marching Band is not easy. We do more athletic work than the athletes at my school. Pah..

We never got any of that when I was in high school, considering the fine arts department actually wins stuff and brings notoriety to the school, unlike the athletics department. razz

I know I get in big arguments with people and I'm like come march in 90 degree weather, full uniform, running out of breath and remembering the music with us
I'd like to see how easy it is then

Same, same. Almost everyone Ive mentioned marching band to who hasnt been in it or close to it is completely like that and I am totally tempted to knock them unconscious, strap them in our uniform, put them on the road at noon on a "nice" summer day, and tell them to MARCH for a mile with little to no water or stopping. That would certainly change their opinions! And give some sweet revenge.

This phrase pisses me off soooo much, "The only reason why people get in band, is because it's an easy P.E. credit, and you like don't do anything."
BULLSH** Yeah I live in Texas, we start our practices in early July. Unfortunately our band directors sometimes forget just how hot it is in texas summer heat, underneath there tents, and forget to water us on occasion. I would love to see those f*ing football players (they just got an 18mill $ stadium and haven't won a single game in IT) march out there with us!!
Oi ve I have gotten into sooo many arguments with people about this. Not only that I always lost about 30lbs it seems during marching season.

Haha We have a football player in band, and of course he says football is tougher but he'd think otherwise if he actually worked in band Man; we don't even get it as a p.e. credit But yay for use of capitol punishmen! whee

I'd like to see everyone who says that go out in full uniform in 100 degree weather, carrying a full set of tenors, and march for 8-9 hours in band camp. One day of band camp would shut them up for good...

Yeah, my HEALTH teacher said that.
He's like, "if it's not on ESPN, it isn't a sport."
"THE DCI CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE ON ESPN. wtf."

I hate that! Yea I know the football players work hard, my brother is in football, but we march a 7-8 minute show without stopping, football they play for 10 seconds and stop. I mean come on, our band practices more then the football team.
I also hate how the teachers let kids in football and other sports slide on their homework because they had a game or practice, but not me because its marching band. The only teacher who let me do that was my geom teacher and that is because he loves watching the band.

I know its soo retarded I mean; the band kids are out just as late; and I bet we get more exhausted; they constantly have breaks and time outs and whatnot we march around in 239487234 degree weather wearing heavy clothes, having to either hold our arms up or carry at least 20 lbs on our shoulders we dont complain we ain't pansys cool

Yes, it drives me insane. My band director actually fought the school board about having Band under the "sport" category. They haven't done that yet, but we can now letter in Band!

heart We could letter in band but we could also letter in academic quiz bowl, so that's not saying much. The way our course requirements worked, it was better to have marching band as a fine arts credit becuase we were only required to take one semester of PE and it was a required class and there was no way they were going to waive the class altogether for us or the football team or the soccer team or anyone else who had sports classes during the day. To make matters worse though, the way it ended up for me was that I had to go straight from marching band class to gym class. Try running a mile in less than 10 minutes after spending an hour and a half on the parking lot drilling tempos as high as 200 bpm. That really sucked.
