Please don't post unless asked to by MIntaka or Meeki, thanks! The sun was setting on another day, and the air was slowly cooling off as the sun made it's way to hide once more. Eyes that shared the same shade barely gave note to the event as she stood there, disatisfied with things. In the distance she could see the village of the two-leggers, flames flickering in the failing light clearly.
Up there, she held her own flaming vigil, the flames flicking up off her mane, tail, and hooves. She snorted quietly, wishing ever so fervently once mroe that all this would just... go away. The two-leggers were fools and idiots, and those Soquili who actually associatd and trusted them were even stupider. She hated the whole thing, how so many could give up their freedom and selves to associate with them.
And those who might shun her for ebing different. For wanting different things, for wanting to see it all just go. She didn't ahte everything - just those too stupid or too blind to see beyond things. She had a healthy respect for Kalona, and wanted nothing to do with a Skinwalker -- but most other Soquili were lazy, unless and pointless in their existence, and were afraid of things. She gave a flick fo ehr long tail, sending embers into the air to dance and fade away. One day she'd see things better... she'd see a future that looked as intense as the fires of the two-leggers. She'd see it happen, one way or another.

The fires drew him closer and closer. He could hear the two-leggers shout though he couldn't figure out what they were saying. Some were running to get water from the nearby river and others were trying to save their families and items of importance. It didn't look like any real damage would be done but they were certainly afraid all the same.
A light in the distance caught his attention. Was that Brimstone? Was all this his doing? How dare he do something this fun without him. When he got a hold of him, he would give his brother a scar to match his very own. Hell, perhaps several would be in order.
However, as he neared the frame of the other nightmare was smaller, feminine. Could it be that he and his brother were not alone? He had heard of female nightmares in the area but had not actually seen one before now. She seemed to stare so intently on the village nearby. Was that her handiwork? "Having a little fun," he asked as he neared her, feeling almost guilty to break her concentration. She looked every part a nightmare with her fire hooves and hair and she was beautiful. "Name's Hellfire," he said, regardless of if she wanted that knowledge or not. Then he turned to watch the village. He wondered what she had against those two-leggers. He always found them to be harmless and about worthless.

She watched as the fire seemed to dance it's way up, away from the flames in the village, and was surprised to see another carrying the flames harmelssly - another nightmare. So then it had bene true, there were others here aside herself and her sister. She was still watching the village though, a faint smirk touching her lips as he spoke. "I would like to take claim, but I haven't been through there recently enough - I did however spook a few other Soquili into the city so I assume it was really them knocking things around, or the two-leggers being useless aagin."
She gave a laugh, shaking her head slightly and watching the flames die in the air. "No, no, but I do hope they suffer a little. Shouldn't be burning things so much when the seasons are dry. Silly two-leggers."
She turned her head to look at him now, taking in the little thigns about him to see if he truly was one of her own kind. A scar - well, he'd certainly been into something before... although he seemed a bit jealous of the fires going on. Was it from a two-legger, or another Soquili or something else? Questions, but not to be spoken yet. "Styx," she said with a slight incline of her head. "That is my name." It was only fair, since he gave his, and he too carried the flame.

"Ah," he stated before turning back to the fires. So she hadn't started it after all. That was both a little disappointing and a relief to hear. Though he loved causing trouble, the two leggers were important. They knew how to plant crops and get them to grow quicker. Without them, the food would be so limited. On the other hand, it would have been fun to see another Nightmare in action. It had been so long. These lands have a way of calming a creature regardless of if it's wanted or not.
He didn't agree that they were silly. Accidents happened after all, regardless of the species. From his personal viewing of the two-leggers, they came out to be rather cunning and intelligent. He thought it best not to argue with the mare though since he had just met her. Wouldn't be good to start off on the wrong hoof. Who knows when he'd see another of his kind again, outside of his brother.
"Styx," he repeated, nodding. "I'm Hellfire. I have a brother in these parts that goes by the name Brimstone. We've been here for quite a long time but I can't say I have see another of our kind until now. Not in these lands at least. Have you been here long?" He was curious about her but it was too soon to ask such questions. Did she have a family? Did they come with her? Did she have a mate? Was he going to spring out of the woods and attack him at any moment? Hellfire couldn't help but grin at the last thought. It had been too long since he had been in a proper fight.

"A brother you say," she said pondering this thought. She'd heard that ehr sister had already found someone, but one which was not like them. Well, a little late to find out that bit of news, but what could one do? Her sister had already made ehr choice, and Styx wasn't going to start a fight voer that one. She, however, refused to lower herself - willingly. There were beasts she concerned herself voer who might think some advantage in truly to use her, but she'd make sure they burned in hell first. "I have a sister, well, had in some regards. I don't see her much anymore, and probably for the better. I don't agree with her decisions, but... I am not going to tell her how to live her life."
She smirked slightly, looking at him again. "I've bene here long enough, but I keep myself out of the line fo fire - no puns intended - as many ... others.... don't seem to care much for me. Some freak out, others think I'm an abomination for being able to be wreathed in flame so easily without harm, and others? Hah, they think I'm the devil. Hardly, I must say, since I've seen things far more deadly then I - not that I'd admit such." She grinned a bit. "And you, have you been in these parts long?"
Questions were always a good way to put things together, including trying to read between what was said. Unspoken words were powerful things, too.

"Far too long," he replied. "I try avoid others though, so I don't know what they would think of me if they saw me. I don't care, to be honest. I wouldn't mind being seen as a demon though, that has a nice ringl to it." Surely there was something demonic to them for them to be they way they were, at least he always thought. He didn't know how their kind had come to be. Born of fire, some say.
Nightmares were notoriously malicious, usually, but these lands had a way of calming one, or so he liked to believe. Perhaps he was just making excuses for going soft. It would no doubt be different if he were still part of a big Nightmare herd. It seemed there was so much to prove back then. Now he could just relax. He didn't have as strong of a desire to be mean to others when he was alone or with his brother.
"Is it just you and your sister then? No mate? No herd?" He found himself flooded with questions. He wondered if she would think less of him if he wasn't as mean as intended for their kind.

"Nothing, anymore," she said with a slight snark in her voice. "We didn't have much anyway, really, or so I think. The family was..." She trailed off, watching as the flames began to die in the village, much like the light of the fiery sun. "Least impressive, really. I don't think my parents agreed much on things sometimes, which is likely why I lack any other siblings." She gave a laugh, harsh with bitterness. "Maybe my sister sees things different, I don't talk about the past with her... or much with her anymore."
She sighed slightly, and shook her head again. "No mate, unlike my sister." She made a face, a bit of distaste and ruefulness in it. "She took to something unlike us... if she is happy, then I will accept that, but I wasn't so willing... nor have I found anyone who'd tolerate my flames much." She smirked slightly as the light of flames danced in her eyes. "It's funny how a stallion would think twice of what they say simply because fire is about you. DO they fear I'd burn them, or kill them?" She laughed.
"No, I have been solitary for many moons now," she said quietly. "I wanted to be... well, my family has always been true to their blood, in flame and fury, although I admit I falter likely in the fury. When called for I will rise, but these lands... I do not feel that need as much. I quip with my tongue more then my hoof and flame. Perhaps I am biding my time for the one thing to truly spark me back, or perhaps ... well, perhaps I was losing hope of there ever being others like my sister and I. Even then, I doubt I'm nearly as capable as I once was. A shame perhaps, but... I do enjoy keeping others on their toes at least if they're going to look at me odd." She smirked then, and lookd at him.
"To turn the question around, since I've gone on a bit," she said with mirth, "what of you? Did you leave others behind when you and your brother came, and have you found anyone?" Had he done as his sister had, or was he waiting? Or simply hadn't found someone yet, perhaps. If she'd found someone she deemed worthy and could deal with her, she may have settled, but deep down, she wanted to honor her family and tradition, as well.

He listened to her talk and thought about what she said. Her sister had mated with a non-nightmare? While it was unheard of from their kind, he couldn't particularly blame her. It wasn't like she had a plethora of nightmare stallions at her disposal. He had been in these lands a very long time and Styx was the first he had met of his kind. He would be lying if he said he hadn't flirted with the idea of taking another type of mare as his mate but he was getting older and his options were lacking. Even if he went back home, there were no guarantees that his herd would still be there. They were wanderers. It's what made their kind so hard to find.
"Perhaps both," he responded, sharing a laugh. He sometimes forgot that the other creatures could become burned so easily. It would make rutting with a regular mare an adventure, surely. And if any foals came to be from the experience, how could a normal mare's womb handle the flames of a foal? It was best to stick with another nightmare. Immunity to fire was an important aspect that he needed to remember.
"I am of a similar mindset," he admitted. "I am no weakling. I don't think any of our kind could make that claim, but I do not go out of my way to cause trouble in these lands. They have a way of settling the soul and I think it's a nice change to my past. I like having no expectations made of me. I do not know if it will be permanent. It very well could be a passing amusement because it's something different. I'm willing to ride it out and see what comes from it though."
He turned his gaze back to the two leggers and nodded. "My brother and I left the herd when we came of age. We wanted to strike out on our own. In some ways, I suppose it was foolish because we may never find the herd again. They travel all over the land and seldom stay at the same place twice. Sometimes, I miss the company of our kind but I am thankful I have my brother. We don't always agree with one another, but it's good to know there's another nearby. I have to admit, it would be really nice to know another of my kind is always nearby." Especially a female, he silently added in thought. He hoped she had no plans to travel on.
"No, I haven't found anyone, nor has my brother. I have to admit, I had thought about it before, you know, settling down with one not of my kind. It does get lonely and our kind are so rare, but I've never be comfortable enough with the thought to actually act upon it. I sometimes worry that our kind is dying out. I have no way of really knowing but it seems like there's so few of us any more. It would be nice to bring more purebloods to the world." He wasn't hinting, or was he? He wasn't quite sure. He did worry that the reason he hadn't seen another of his kind in so long was that they were dying out. Many were hunted for being 'monsters'. They were no more evil than the Skinwalkers or other creatures in the world. Perhaps they were just easier to kill.

She hid her amusement well as she listed, but she also heard bits of herself in it she couldn't deny. As much as she disliked the two-leggers - with cause since they did not seem to like her - she ahd to admit she felt less inclined to lash out here, unless provoked. A little fun here and there, since people assumed much of her, and she decided it was easier to run with that, but she had stopped being as wild as she had been in her younger days. Maybe it was age settling in, or maybe he was right.
"Lonliness..." She let the word drift, thinking on it. It was something she had become used to, something she'd accepted, but it did eat at you. Mayeb that's why she'd felt so compelled today to rustle up the locals, she needed something to fight back against it. "It's hard... it is. I suppose for msyelf since i don't see my sister often, it's more painful. I don't have many - if any - I can fall back on these days. No other family, and none who dare have come close. Although I admit, my own sarcastic tongue might drive some away, others simply avoid me because I'm different."
She gave a toss of her head in a shrug-like manner, sending a few sparks to the air to die. "If we are, truly, dying out, then I suppose it might be meant, but I doubt that if it were true, enough of us would be to continue it somehow." She laughed quietly. "I've dreamed more lately of wanting to raise a family... I am not as young as I was when I set out myself with my sister to these lands, and I would hate to die without bringing a future into the world."
It was truth - she wanted to ensure that her life was not for nothing - that something lived on in her legacy. But she'd held onto a faint hope of keeping true, and she'd felt as though it were going to fail her. Perhaps a new start was finally presented here. So far, he'd proven to not be a a** or piss her off yet, and actually was pleasant. It made ehr feel a bit weird to think in terms of that, but among ehr kind she actually liked those who weren't grating and irritating to no end... ones who mgiht deserve a hard kick to the head. It had bene one reason she'd wanted to leave where they'd been as most of the males made her want to kick them in the skull, but she herself was pretty hard to deal with then. Time was a funny thing.
She wasn't sure if he was hinting at anything, but it wasn't like she disagreed. She had a similar mind and ideal, so she couldn't argue. Perhaps something more then just like minds and desires culd be, but she wasn't going to think it'd be that 'fairy tale' that happened so often i other Soquili stories. If it did, she'd be happy - she had to admit she wouldn't mind it, but they were not normal Soquili at all. he did have a certain charm to him though, perhaps because he wasn't acting superior and idiotic.
