Quote:
The bill, introduced in Congress last month by Reps. Lee Terry (R-NE) and Jim Matheson (D-UT), would require game retailers to check IDs of mature-rated game buyers and would also mandate that information detailing the ESRB rating system be posted in view of customers.

I full heartedly agree with this. This now can stop parents bitching at companies like Rockstar for making violent games because "It harms children" (bullshit) when NOW, its the PARENTS responsibility as they are getting it for their own children. So now, Developers wont have to feel pressured into making their games tamer for an audience that shouldnt be playing it.

I have allready expressed my opinion on this before, for the YT vid

Seriously, if you don't like violent video games, dont buy them. Its that simple.

I agree with this too, I only know a handfull of parent who care, but it would most likely boost the quality of games that should be rated mature, but seeing as the war is in progress and all that crap over there, like it said, it will most likely be thrown to the side.

On top of it all, I can't wait until I see it in a history book,...the Video Games Rating Enforcement Act. It would sound so odd...

I think it is dumb they have to pester the game industries all the time...I don't think it should discourage people to make the game the best they have to, The games are going to get sold wether the rating is bad or not, making it eliegal will just cause more organized crime, thats what our prohibition did.

the point is though, it does. they get pestered because of the people who complain about videogame violence n s**t, when if that law was passed, then it would be alot better as it would be up to the parents to let the kids play the mature game, NOT freely avlable, so then, if they blame it on the game, there inturn, blaming it on the parents for supplying it, which is how it should be, its not games that cause you to shoot someone, its other reasons building up to it. just because a person plays a game (hell, i remember i think 1 school shooting was blamed on doom.. my 5 year old niece plays doom..) dosent mean theyl go around shooting people

maybe if guns were harder to get, there wouldnt be as many shootings..

I second the gun notion...I don't think they should blame them either considering the parents are'nt watching their kids close enough if they care that much...

Well, then I think it should be passed if it matters that much to the designers. I think it's silly to blame it on a videogame, I'm fine and I've played sense....err, I can remember.

While I agreee with the bill, I can't say I like how it helps video game companies. As far as I'm concerned, they've just been screwing us over for every cent we've got since the last generation of consoles, and ever since I read how they've been trying to bully certain video game magazines into giving them better scores (with no success, thankfully), I regard most of these companies as little more then money grubbing bastards, hoping to make a quick buck with cheap, crappy games based off of whatever's popular at the moment. A.k.a. all those terrible movie games, American Idol, the video game, and almost every religious game ever.

Not all aliens are green.

I think it is a good idea. We don't want small children buying a game based off something like SAW. Parents should go with young children to buy games so they know what's being bought. I guess the government is trying to keep kids minds clean. I just hope I don't forget my ID when game shopping.

So it's an actual enforcement of what retailers are supposed to do already? Goddess knows I've been carded every time I've purchased a Mature game. I guess I can be behind it, although I think it's idiotic for retailers to not card the purchasers in the first place on their on volition.

makes no difference to me, i just get another family member to buy games over 18 for me

although it does suck when you have to take in your ID (i use my passport) when you want to buy a 15 game..
