I was wondering... does anybody here do their own eyebrows? I never got my eyebrows done, but I plan on doing so this summer. I might pay to get it done at first, but I don't want to have to keep paying for it. So, if anyone does their own or knows how it's done, I would greatly appreciate learning how! 3nodding

Just pluck strays unless you want to achieve some kind of look that involves shaping. My eyebrows aren't thick so I only do a few on each - like 3 or 4.

Also, here is a tip I learned back in high school: do your eyebrows immediately after taking a shower. Your hair is softer and more malleable on your head/face/body, so plucking will hurt less.

It would be best to get them done professionally first because they will most likely shape them. Then you can just keep them tidy with tweezers after that.
All you have to remember is never wax or pluck above the eyebrow because you'll lose the natural shape. And pull the skin taut before plucking the hair out because the skin is really thin around the eye area and it's very easy to accidentally get plucked with the tweezers.

It's best to have a make up brush or pencil or orange stick while tweezing.

The space between your eyebrows should be no wider than the inner corner of your eyes. So get the pencil and line it up parallel to the side of your nose.
The end of your eyebrow should line up diagonally from your nostril and the arch of your eyebrow, hold the brush parallel to the outside edge of your iris.

I got my eyebrows waxed.
It was pretty painful for me, since my skin is kinda sensitive.
But yes, it will shape your eyebrows well.
There's times where I'm not in the mood for plucking,
so sometimes I'll use a shaver. Not electric.
(I know, pretty weird, but it works for me.)
You just gotta be super careful with a shaver...

I do mine every day.
Waste of eyeliner, but
they'll be tattoos soon.

I shaved underneath the end of my eyebrows once because I couldn't be bothered tweezing and accidently shaved part of the end of my eyebrow off and it's never really grown back properly since. So my left eyebrow always looks pretty dodgy. sad

Awwh, that sucks.
That's probably one of the downfalls about using a shaver.
I hate having thick eyebrows. xP

Ooh, would you mind posting a photo when you're done? A friend of mine tattoo'd her eyebrows on but I never get to see because she lives far away.

Ooh, that reminds me of... *Totally forgot her name*
The girl from the band, The Dresden Dolls.
She does some cool design for her eyebrows. :3

I pluck my own brows since a couple of yeas ago and I don't find it to hard or painful. I just do it every now and then. I've never tried any other metod but I think I'll go to a saloon soon to get them shaped and then I'll just pluck the hair that grows out after that by myself, to keep the shape. That's what I recomend to you (-go to a GOOD saloon and get them shaped and then pluck the hair that grows back at home.)!

Basically, I agree with everything that PlJunkie said.

I'm pretty much an eyebrow expert, considering that I used to get them waxed every single week. cool

Hehe, I can't stand the look of drawn on eyebrows, really.
There's meant to be hair above your eyes, people. surprised

But yeah, always get them shaped first and make sure they wax in between and never above your eyebrows.
When they hold up a mirror so you can check, don't be afraid to tell them if they've messed up or if they need to wax more.

Tweezing hurts so I'd suggest buying your own wax for home, but that's pretty risky too unless you've figured out what you're doing.
So just tweeze with whatever shape they gave you, and pull the skin taut, like PlJunkie said. 3nodding

Thank you all so very much! All of this is really helpful. I have another question... As I was strolling through my town I passed a salon that said "We thread eyebrows." I've heard a lot about threading, but what exactly is involved in that? Is that better/easier than using tweezers?

I saw that today when I went to get food.
I was wondering what it meant exactly, too.
Hopefully someone will tell us? x3

"Eyebrow threading involves twisting a piece of thread, usually cotton, into a double strand. This double stranded thread is used to pick up a line of hair and then remove it, creating a very clean, precise hairline." (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-eyebrow-threading.htm)

Here's an up close video of it being done to a woman -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK-QzPLgUTo
