It hadn't been long. No, not long indeed since Zulimar had given birth to three foals. Valarauco's foals in fact. The Kalona mare had been distraught over the face that indeed one of the baskets had hatched a colt. And in an instant the stallion had whisked his son away from the horrible fate that might beseech him.

Valar would never let any of his children be killed. Not for any reason at all. Zulimar's hatred for males would have to be directed somewhere else. Away from Kosomot. As this colt would grow up and join their proud race. Perhaps even make a difference in his own little way. The stallion could only hope.

Only a few days had passed since Valarauco took his son from his mother. He was not abandoning his daughters no. He would drop in every now and again to check up on them. To make sure they were following the path that him and their mother had set for them. But Kosomot needed to be kept away from the crazy mare. If he was to have any chance in this world.

The days had gone by as quickly as any other. The stallion would leave Kosomot in a hidden location close to the mountains. The foal was still too young to be making the journey up to the caves where the firey stallion made his home. And he would go off hunting. Bringing back enough food for himself and Kosomot. He was a growing boy after all and would need all that he could get. Luckily it was summer time. And young animals were coming into maturity. So there was no lack of supplies.

Today was different though. Valarauco took Kosomot away from his hiding spot and lead him into the valley where most Soquili made their homes. This day would be like many to come. He would teach his son the ways of the world and how he should be. Glancing down at the foal, a quick smirk came to his lips. So much of himself and Zulimar was in each of these foals. But thankfully it didn't seem that Kosomot had the same disposition as his mother. Thankfully.

Kosomot didn't remember much before he had been taken away by his father. He did though remember the figure of another large Soquili and two smaller ones. But beyond that he wasn't told much of what had happened. To him, it had always just been him and his father. And he didn't question it.

The stallion took good care of him indeed. Bringing him food and keeping him sheltered. What more could one ask for?

He did though, when he was alone, think about those others who were around once he had hatched from his basket. But he had a lot of time to ponder while his father was out and about. Though he often wondered why exactly it was that he was always left behind.

But yes, today was a different day. Apparently he had grown strong enough and was able to walk even better. So his father had taken him from his little shelter out into the world. It was quite a new experience indeed.

Kosomot walked quickly next to his father. The older stallion could take longer strides than he could, which made him move even faster than perhaps Kosomot could keep up with just yet. His father always seemed to be in a rush sometimes. At least thats how it felt to the foal when he walked next to him. They stopped a top a large hill that over looked a meadow. Down in the tall grasses, families of Soquili grazed. Played. Other foals played with one another while their parents looked on. The colt narrowed his eyes as he stared down at them. Wings unfurling for a second. "Who are they?" He asked coldly. Glancing up at his father with a bit of coldness in his eyes. The same coldness that Valarauco often saw in Zulimar's.

Looking down upon the Soquili in the meadow, Valarauco had a quick sense of hunter and prey. Which was the way it was. Always. They were the prey and he was the hunter. Though now a days he didn't take down as many Soquili for food as he would have liked to. Some of them were just pains in the a**. What with all their self righteous bull s**t and thinking they were bad a** for fighting him. Or those who try and preach about the benefits of being ******** grass munchers.

Leaning his head down to eye level with his son. Those intense eyes staring into the colt's. "Those, my son, are prey. Nothing more. You will learn how to take them down once you are older." His gaze shifted for a moment before he lifted his head. "The ones with horns on their foreheads are particularly tasty. Their innocence radiates through their flesh and muscle. A very sweet taste that I'm sure you will enjoy on your first kill." Draping a wing over his son, he continued to walk. Moving along as a slightly slower pace this time. Today would be the day. Valarauco had picked this particular day after much watching and careful planning.

Kosomot would make his first kill.

"Hmmm..." Kosomot pondered over his father's words. Prey. Innocence was tasty. The way Valarauco spoke almost made his mouth water. Almost. The colt had yet to taste the flesh of those other races. Still, he was too small to take one down on his own just yet. Perhaps one of his own size he could do, but his brain thought it over. Unless the foal was alone it might not quite work out.

Oh well.

"Nothing more than prey, then?" Furrowing his eyebrows lightly, he wasn't too sure. But he believed what his father told him. Maybe even to socialize with these other races was taboo. He curled his slender, spaded tail around his father's larger one. A small, almost endearing act. Even bringing a bit of comfort to the foal. It was how he bonded. Kosomot did not nuzzle or cuddle up against his father. Nor did he have any want to. Besides the fact that he might of just been shoved away anyways. He had come to realize that the relationship they had was not a touchy feely one. And he was content with that. It was not something he wanted anyway.

"Yes." Came his swift reply as he led the colt further on. Heading into the tree line, deeper into the forest. "The lesser races have made a mockery of our kind, my son. Trying to convert those who would follow to a state of goodness and redemption. Breeding with them and soiling the proud Kalona name." As they came to a small break in the forest he stopped. Leaning his head downward once again to be at eye level with Kosomot. "Those who follow the lessers are weak not only in mind and spirit, but of pride for what they are." His tail wrapped tightly around the colt's, giving it a harsh squeeze. The stallions eyes burned with a hatred that ran deep.

Not enough to break the bones in Kosomot's tail. But enough to prove his point and get it through the young colt's head right there and now.

"If I ever hear of you doing such things with lessers...." The stallions eyes squinted. Turning into small, red slits. "I will kill you myself." That was the last he would ever speak of it. Lifting his head, he loosened the grip his tail had on the foal's. Nudging him forward with a leg to get him to step forward. "Now, you will learn what it is to be the hunter." Using his one, unfurled wing Valarauco pointed to the clearing ahead of them. "There. A family of deer lives not too far into that clearing. Bring me one."

Listening closely to his father's words, everything played out in the back of his mind. Apparently, those weak Kalona were nothing more than fodder. Easily disposable. And probably best to be rid of from the get go. He'd have to keep a keen eye out for them. Perhaps even he, one day, could help weed out the garden.

Kosomot did not flinch at his father's words and stern look. What he was saying was something he wanted Kosomot to understand and understand well. But the colt now knew what his place and position in this life would be. He would never give his father and reason to take this drastic of measures. No. Not ever.

His gaze was soon turned towards the clearing. Listening to Valarauco's instructions. Now it was time to prove himself. To show that he was indeed to grow up into something worthy of the Kalona society that his father so greatly cherished. It was all Valarauco wanted for his son after all. Without another word, the colt quietly left his father's side. Instincts kicking in the moment his mind processed the task at hand. He slipped into the shadows and made his way as silently as he could. If he went in horns blaring he would never make a kill that way. Any right minded hunter would know that.
