Makali padded alongside Wingu. They had finally reached the Prideland's borders, safety. He hadn't gotten a scratch on him from the trip to the elephant graveyard, Wingu hadn't been so lucky. Thank the gods he'd gone looking for her. He disliked imagining what could've happened to her had he not found her. The confident grey male had always assumed hyenas to be dumb, that was what he'd heard from everyone he knew, but... Experience had shown him otherwise. He padded alongside his friend and allowed his pace to slow upon crossing their border and returning to their homelands.

Wingu'd remained quiet the entire way, only speaking when it was to refuse any help he offered. She kept her eyes low and steps as light as possible. By now all the adrenaline had worn off, though, and each step was getting more and more painful, and the wound on he back of her neck bled freely. She ahd wanted to hold out till a watering hole, but she couldn't, and soon enough swerved away from Makali to flop near a tree, panting slightly.

"Damn paws. " she mumbled, raising on to lick at it. Still, even now when they hurt more than ever she'd refuse any help. Oooh no. Makali didn't get to be all nice and helpful today.

Makali watched her clean her wounds, not offering much help when she suddenly swerved away. On the way home, he'd given up on trying to help her. His mouth tightened, though, at this last action.

"Are you going to be alright, Wingu?" He asked, tilting his head. A little bit of guilt nipped at him. If he'd gotten up earlier, maybe he would've seen her leave. While he didn't verbally admit it, he cared for her, though lately it had been different than it used to be. He always choked the feeling off when he got it, and he choked it off again.

It was, however, independent from concern. The guilt got the best of him. "I'm sorry for calling you 'Runty' in front of that thing, for some reason I didn't want him to know your real name." His ears folded back as he felt that feeling again- he buried it quickly. He thought a little ahead, what would they tell her mother, or her grandmother? Her mother would probably take it easier, but...He wasn't so sure.

"I guess. " She said monotonously, switching paws. it didn't take long to finish up her paws, though she ignored the shallow scraped from the hyena's nails. "Its ok. Just don't call me runty in general... anymore " She said at that. she didn't want to be called runty anymore. It was the first time she'd complained about it in general for a while. Why was she suddenly annoyed by it? Because of the curse. It wasn't as great to be called Runty when you knew you were always going to be stuck like this. At least she used to be able to hope she could grow up.

Now with her paws clean, she curved her neck to clean that one shoulder wound, and one bite on her back. But the worst bite was precisely the one she couldn't reach. "Damn hyena. Bites hardest where y' can't do anything about it. " She mumbled, trying to look at the wound on her neck, but she simply didn't bend that way.

"Oh, okay Wingu." Makali silently wondered if she'd always hated being called Runty or if it was just because of this. The male felt terribly awkward, that stupid feeling kept popping up, and he had to keep pushing it down, which often made his whiskers twitch when he did so. His golden eyes were fixed on her paws, looking at the wounds there. They looked like they'd heal ok.

He turned his gaze back up to her face when she spoke again. "Yeah, that one's pretty bad looking," he said. Another whisker twitch. "I can get it for you, if you'll let me," he said, moving forward just a bit. He didn't want her to recoil too bad, in case her paws still hurt a lot.

... Another whisker twitch.

"thanks. " She muttered, looking away. She didn't quite want to tell him she'd been curses. Besides, he'd notice when all her siblings got big and she remained.. small.

He blinked, glancing at him at his offer. An hour ago she would've likely swatted him despite her injuries and refused, but right now Wingu was tired, exhausted even. She probably wouldn't be able to get up to walk over towards a watering hole, either. And even she wouldn't want to risk an infection to hang on to a little pride.

She nodded slightly, looking away.

You're just doing a favor for a friend, Mak told himself, and it seemed to work. He was starting to get good at repressing the crushy-emotion. He licked Wingu's cuts until they were clean and he pulled back. The thought had been biting at his mind. "Wingu, what'll we tell your family about this?" He asked. He was sure she didn't want to think about it, but it had to be addressed before she could get home. And the last thing he wanted was for her to run into more trouble... No doubt her relatives would be displeased to hear the true tale, but what could they weave that would be any better?

She remained quiet while being cleaned, between feeling grumpy or awkward. Grumpy because of how.. cub-like this was, but awkward because it wasn't a parent, it was a friend this time. Needless to say, Wingu was glad when it was over.

"I was attacked by a hyena. " She said simply, shrugging(and wincing because of her left shoulder). "It happens. " She glanced at him. "We just say I kicked its arse back. I'm gonna live, so they can't complain. " If anything the white adolescent would be the one who should complain, these wouldtake maybe a month to heal! .. or MORE.

Makali nodded to her words and an awkward silence hung in the air. He finally decided on something to say. "Well, I'm just glad you're gonna be alright, we have children to lead into the gorge, after all. Three lions would be so much more fun than just two, and you know it." Makali said with a maniacal smirk. Yeah, three could definitely pull a wider variety of pranks than just two. "Got any ideas?" He said, trying to clear the awkwardness from the air, knowing that pranks were probably among the least of her worries.

She smirked, furrowing her brows. "Two isn't so great, is it? " She stuck her tongue out. "Bet you'll miss me while I'm off.. curled up in fetal position or something. " Wingu rolled her eyes. About now she'd be tackling him, but it hurt a bit too much to move, especially since night was setting in. Night in Africa was cold and dry, pain got accentuated.

All joking left his voice as concern for his crush-- er, friend set in. "Wingu, you'll be alright," he said, every bit as much for himself as for her. "You'll... You'll still hang out with Choku and me, right?" the question dripped anxiety as it left his mouth. More than anything else, he loved getting together with the group, things just wouldn't be the same without her, Wingu came up with tons of good pranks, or at least methods to improve what Choku and himself came up with. Beyond all of that, he was sure it would definitely boost Wingu's morale to hang out.

The lion felt the chill of the night air and flopped onto the ground, wondering if Wingu could do the same as easily. The grass offered little warmth, but it still was warmer than sitting up in the air.

"Stop acting like I'm dead. " She stuck her tongue out, rolling onto her belly easily. She proobably wouldn't be able to sleep on her back. Which sucked. Daaaamn, injuries would make it tough to stretch out 'n be lazy like she liked to be. Sucky.

"And yah, sure. But I'll just plot for now, I guess. Not much action. " She shrugged. "No biggie. " She looked away, then back again. "You don't life with your folks anymore, do ya? "

"Plotting is always good." He said more lightly, tail flicking behind him. "That's good to hear, though..." He turned his gaze over the savannah as she had done before turning back to answer her question. With a sheepish chuckle, Mak replied, "No, I don't anymore. I figured they should... you know, be able to have their den back? I don't have a solid place myself, though..." He said a little more disappointedly. He was always keeping his eyes peeled for a good place to call home. "I've been sleeping out in the open for a little while, a different place every night, but I know I'll find somewhere fitting soon." He said more optimistically. "What about you, you still with your folks?" He asked back, head tilted a bit.

"Yup! As soon as I could hunt. Mom and gram's are nice 'n all, buut it was too crowded in there. " She smirked, stretching slightly. "But I don't have a place either. I'm just walkin' around. " She shrugged.

"I bet Chokuto's found a place by now. It like he has some sort of luck permanently braided into his mane. " She snorted. Chokuto WAS the lucky one, oh yes he was. thats how he always beat her.

Makali nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, Choku does seem to have it good with lady luck. I say we hunt him down and party at his den!" Mak said mischievously. "That or make him find two more good dens for us. Maybe we could go find dens sometime soon..." Luckily, lions had fur, so the blush at suddenly realizing what he'd just said was hidden from Makali's face. Could've been taken wrong.

"I mean two seperate dens," he said sheepishly, in an attempt to keep things normal here. Well, normal enough for her having been attacked by a hyena and gotten a big gouge out of her.
