Lorioth was quite certain that even the janitors on the night-owl shift had left the building abandoned some time ago—only he, like some sort of mechanical being, seemed to have the willpower to keep his eyes open, to measure liquids and chemicals precisely and carefully into their beakers and mixtures.
But it was late, and even his eyes were beginning to itch and blur at the edges with sleep as he made his way to the front of the building, swiping his key card once to unlock the doors, stepping through them into the cooling night air, then swiping his card again to lock the door—to make sure that no one got in until the next morning, when the workers would come in to clean up again.
With a satisfied sigh to go with his satisfied smile, Lorioth turned on his heel and began to walk down the path to the teacher’s dormitories. Life was good, life was almost perfect; a cloudless night, thick with stars, the contentment of nearly completing all the tests he’d had planned for that day that he’d be able to finish up tomorrow, leaving him with most of the day free…
Lorioth possessed a decent amount of luck. It was the only way he caught the thin, wispy scent of something burning on the edge of his nostrils.
He paused, scowled, took another tentative sip of air through his nose. Yes…yes, something was definitely burning. Something— BOOM.
His heart jumping from complete relaxation to adrenaline pump within the span of a second, Lorioth whirled around in time to witness orange tongues of flame clawing at the air, a large pillow of dark smoke billowing into the sky.
“Oh God,” he choked out, unable to do anything more for a few seconds than stand there, staring dumbly at the destruction. Finally, his body seemed to grow impatient and kicked into gear for him, legs pumping like pistons as he shot himself towards the building, towards the site of destruction.
Oh, thank God there’s no one in there….
It took him several minutes to return and circle the building frantically, looking for other people; by the time he’d made it back to where he’d come from, a small group of people had gathered around the shards of melted glass glittering on the ground; all the teachers (Norman still wore his nightcap) were present, as well as Weiyuan, RuiZhi and Scyeth, all in varying degrees of interest, shock and annoyance.
“Is everyone here?” Dante asked, eyes sweeping the scene.
“We’re running checks in all of the buildings as we speak—all the students in the Registered Student Dorms are accounted for,” Norman replied, hand cupped around a walkie-talkie.
It seemed like the rest of the staff—and even some of the students—were there as well, Lorioth noted with some relief, scanning the teachers. All the teachers from the Magic Division, the Training Division, and the…
The Science….

Welcome to SSoS' second major metaplot event. For those of you who have already signed up, I trust that you are ready to commit yourself to one of the most devastating disaster that has ever happened in school of Shinkami since the day of its creation. Below is the procedure in which you must abide to when RPing your students/NPCs, as well as all the info you need on how to succeed.
Procedure:
1. this is an RP event, you are required to RP your students if you have signed him up. The main storyline will be updated everyday or every other day, depending on the activity that's going on in the RP, you may or may not choose to respond to it. However, you must respond to the paragraphs in the first post as an introduction of your student. 2. In the post below you will see two HPs, which stand for health points. One of them is the fire, and the other is the victim's HP. 3. This is a team effort. The amount of RP activity that goes on during the event will determine the outcome of the event. Will the fire be put out in time, or will the victims lose their lives? 4. Every day (real time), the two HPs will be updated according to the activity that went on. The fire's HP can be deducted by 5 points everyday there is a lot of RP activity going on (5+ RP posts total per day). If there is less than 5 posts in a day, the fire's HP will not change. If there are more than 5 posts, the fire's HP will go down by 1 for every additional post that is made. The maximum HP that can be deducted per day, however, is 10 (anything above will not change the fire's HP). 5. At least 3 different players must be involved in the RP posts to be eligible for daily fire HP deduction. Meaning if only two people are posting a lot, the fire's HP will not go down. 6. The victim's HP will go down by 1 everyday if there's activity going on. If less than 5 posts are made in a day, the victim's HP will go down by 3. The same rules for fire HP apply here, there must be 3 different people posting in order to meet the minimum activity standard. 7. The event will end if one of the two conditions are met. When the fire's HP reaches 0, or the victim's HP reaches 0. Whichever one happens first will determine the result of the event. If the victim's HP is more than 0 at the end of the event, the victims will live, otherwise they will die.
About rewards and penalties:
-1 AW is automatically rewarded at the start of the event for students who have signed up. -To keep this 1 AW your student must have at least 5 RP post total during the event. Anything more than 5 posts will be likely rewarded with more AWs, but anything less than 5 posts will automatically drop your current AW count to 1.

The Chinese youth yawned for the umpteenth time that night, looking around blearily. He'd barely put his glasses on and opened the door before he'd been yanked out by Alex, alerted to a fire somewhere in the building. Certainly it had alarmed him, but he wasn't really scared, not yet.
He was uncomfortable, bare chested and wearing a pair of dark pajama bottoms, his hair loosely braided to keep it manageable. RuiZhi was unhappy, not understanding how the fire had started but knowing it had to be serious that it had happened at all. He had no idea if there were wards in the Science division or not, but judging by an explosion at an unnatural hour, he was thinking it was safe to say no.
Padding barefoot to his sister, who looked about as happy as he did, he simply stood by her, silent. The only thing he could think of, was one question, and it kept turning around in his head like a mantra.
What happened?

The woman was stone-faced, her expression perfectly neutral. Perhaps strangely, she was still dressed; despite the hour, she had not yet gone to sleep. She uncrossed her arms long enough to put a hand on RuiZhi's head, turning her sharp eyes from the area down to her youngest brother to make sure he was okay. Content that he was no more than shaken, she continued her mental count of who was present and who was not.
Alex murmured, "Chin up, kid," casting a ghost of her former smile to the Chinese youth. Giving him a playful tap of her knuckles on his chin, she turned back into the throng of who was there, disappearing into the mass of people. There was someone in particular she was looking for...

He'd been startled out of his bed by a loud beeping, a sound that seemed more like a siren's wail than a timid beep, and with several curses and some scuffing around he located the origin of the disturbance on his desk beneath several layers of fabric and paper. It only took a push of his finger to turn it on and off (all at once), but since something had caused the little annoyance to trigger itself and rouse him from whatever he'd been trying to dream of he took it seriously enough to slide some khaki-colored jeans over his boxers and make his way to the door.
From what I can gather by the sounds and by what it said, there was some sort of fire or explosion? Did someone in the Science wing decide they wanted to create a big boom of their own in hopes of making a new universe?
That thought amused him as he both ran and walked the hallways and the stairways, making his way outward towards the scene of the crime or as his brain had taken to calling it in this time of sleepiness and stupidity 'The Creation of the World...round Two'. When he finally reached what seemed to be a safe point, or at least a gathering point, Micajah let himself try to blend and mingle with whomever else he happened upon.
Ah, here we go. I better just...pay attention from here. See what needs to be done.
Micajah was a little surprised (well not really surprised since he figured any Science accident would have to involve one or more Science students) to see several people had already gathered around in similar attire to what decked his own frame, though it looked like at the moment he may have been over dressed, save for the woman he saw next to a Chinese boy who seemed familiar.

To be truthful, the predicament he found himself in during the wee hours between a definite night and definite morning were not unusual. Sir Ardanay Veilwood, a professor and the Head of the Science Department, had been looking over papers and files and then watering his plants. If the man slept, no one ever caught it. He seemingly lived in his office, dedicated to his work. And though he was now in his dormitory, he was still working. However, while this was all well and good, something strange was going on. He'd closed his eyes only a moment. He'd leaned back in his chair just for a quick break.
The clock struck, and he stirred. It was then that he realized that he didn't have a clock. And that the thing he'd heard was not so much a strike but an explosion. His swamp grey eyes went wider and he flung himself out of the chair. Still wearing most of his every day clothes, but with his long ivy green locks tied back, he ran down the hallway and outside to see the worst sight he'd seen in most of his years on Earth...
The Science Building... his building... was on fire.
And everywhere there littered students that had heard the noise and came to explore. There were teachers. There was Norman and, to Ardy's thankfulness, there was Lorioth. Quickly, the Head took his place next to Dr. Manneth. He tried to calm his shaking voice, he had been expecting this. It would do no good to get worked up now.
"Lorioth," he said quickly, putting a hand on the other's shoulder, "What happened?" He'd easily noticed that the other teachers were running around busy. He wanted to be this way too. A sense of organization in this sudden chaos. It seems he would be offering his services to Norman a lot sooner than predicted.
Disaster. Calamity. Collision. Pain. Burning. Smoke.
'Mom! Mom!' cried the small child, reaching out the back of the Jeep at his parents. Reaching out for something he'd never touch. Something that had once been so tangible. A strange woman's face was plastered into his mind as he was grabbed back and held tight to the bosom of another woman. All were crying. Screaming.
The Jeep screeched and revved faster; it would not be stopping tonight. It would not stop until it was far away from the chaotic explosion that haunted his worst nightmares.
'Nathaniel, Nathaniel... it's all right, hush, hush...' crooned the woman. And he clung to her loosely. Small fragile hands wrapped tight around her shirt. Emerald eyes wide. Full of both tears and fury. His mother. His father. They were gone... and with a final burst of smoke and fire and a loud popping sound, he knew it was never meant to be.
Eyes shot open and the British boy woke up in a cold sweat. Outside his window there seemed to be a bustle of activity. People running down the hallway of the dorms. On the fringes of his vision he could see something in the distance. Fire? Smoke? Flames? An attack? His anger and thought processes went full gear as he awoke from his slumber. He slipped his feet quickly into shoes, and in flannel pajamas with no disgrace he barreled out of the dorms towards the scene.
Whatever it was, he wouldn't be denied this time. Whatever was going on, he wanted to be in the thick of it. Plus, how could he just go back to sleep? Especially after his dream. His mind was whirling and he pressured himself forward. He found a small crowd gathering outside the Science Department. It was burning. It was a mess. It was chaos.
Nat was lost. For once, he didn't know what to do or say. How to act. And so he stood there, looking at it. What kind of answers would he get? What would happen? He wanted to help. He stepped forward, still looking up at the building and then around at the others. Did he know any of them?
Yes. Ardanay. Micajah. The Chinese boy looked familiar too. Would Jaden be out here eventually? Nathaniel wasn't so sure he wanted Jaden in the mess of this. No. He was positive. He wanted Jaden as far away as possible... though he was sure he wasn't going to get his wish about that. Jaden was too inquisitive and too kind to not come running. Meantime, he just had to find out what was going on... somehow.

When it happened, Dante was situated in his study, rubbing his eyelids tiredly and trying to concentrate.
There were so many things he had to do...he didn't have time for this. He had lessons to plan, he had to keep an eye on Irame, he had to...he had to apologize to...
Larine....
Dante was in dire need of a distraction--
BOOM.
...And now, standing in front of what was quickly becoming a roaring inferno, he wished he had not been so hasty in his wishes.
The Elven Mage scanned the scene quickly. Some students...RuiZhi was there, as well as...Micajah and Nathaniel. Professors Ardanay and Lorioth were present as well, as was Alex.
He sighed and turned back to the teachers. "Well, I know what happened," Dante said to the two, "but I don't know how. Any ideas?" It would probably be best to take stock of the situation first and decide where to go from there. "And have you contacted emergency officials?"

The degree of annoyance? Yeah, that was Scyeth. He had just moved into his new dorm the day before. Just moved in. He didn't even have his new uniform yet. (That could wait, though. The blond wasn't particularly thrilled with the idea of uniforms.) It took him forever to move all his crap (who knew a few items could cause such issues?) and he had finally settled in and gone to sleep and now this. A fire. Or something. Who the hell sets fire to buildings anyways?
Still a little dazed, he looked around the group of people and quickly spotted a very familiar student. A corner of his mouth lifted in a smile and he wandered over, eyes half-closed. "RuiZhi," he purred, standing closer than necessary. He shifted, also (but nearly as embarrassed about being) bare chested. In fact, he was only wearing his favorite pair of pajama pants. You know. The ones with video game characters on them.
The blond failed to notice his hat was left on his bed, hanging from a post. His blond hair limply fell around his face, but really, he'd have to be more careful. He yawned and nudged RuiZhi with a foot. "You okay?"

Al woke up with a sudden start, hearing a strange commotion outside. The young boy wasn't very happy to wake up in this ungodly hour but his annoyance was mixed with his curiosity of what exactly had happened outside--inwardly he debated whether he should step out of his room or just stay in bed.
No. He sensed this was something big... he couldn't miss that chance.
He sat upright, rubbing his eyes as his feet searched for the slippers on the floor, his heart was beating at quite a fast rate. The boy stepped outside, making his way with the other people running past by and there he saw, was a building engulfed in flames, the black smog covered the sky as the air was veiled in a dull gray color. This obviously did not look good.
He quickened his pace the distance between him and the small crowd near the building was lessening, he did not recognize any of them except for the blond boy.

Weiyuan was quick to evacuate the moment he heard the boom seeing as how he was horribly awake. A boom in the Science Division was never a good idea considering the certain elements it may hold. He moved towards the crowd, grey eyes immediately scanning for RuiZhi. He sighed in relief seeing that Alex had him, it looked like she quite literally ripped him from his sheets. He gave a quick glance to Scyeth before looking through the crowd once again. The youth was looking for a particular doctor, praying that the other didn't get caught up in the explosion.

Advisor Herei Fang was in his room, dozing off over some papers when it happened. The explosion. It was so sudden, the advisor was quite startled, dumping his cup of tea all over himself when he jumped. (Good thing it had cooled off quite a bit.) He didn't have time to change, it was an emergency, there were things to do. People to check on. The students!
So some time later, there the advisor stood with the rest of the faculty, in his robes...stained with tea down the side of one leg. He listened while Dante spoke and shook his head. Why hadn't he thought of that? "I don't suppose the fire is contained, is it?" That would make things entirely too easy.

Dante glanced over at Herei, a bit surprised that he hadn't heard the other man coming--but then again, in the kind of situation they were in, he didn't really think he could be blamed.
"They need to be contacted as soon as possible, then," Dante replied quickly. "Professor Prinwaltz might have already done it, but it's still better to be safe than nothing at all."

Nash couldn't have been more thankful for the distraction which woke him from yet another horrible nightmare. As he rose with a start, clutching his sheets, his orange hair ruffled, violet eyes wide he looked toward his window the sky brighter than normal for that hour. Sliding from bed and slipping into house shoes he made his way to the window seeing what many others were witnessing first hand. "Fire?" The words dripped from his lips in a question as he rushed to find his night shirt fleeing from his room with concern. By the time he had made it to the scene a small group had formed of students and faculty members. He looked around but no faces looked familar as he remained toward the back. He only met one man but did not see him immediately within the crowd. He didn't worry too much, it only made sense for the headmaster to take charge, maybe he was off doing something to assist with the fire. Nash watched silently hoping this was the case.

Like many of the others the youth was woken from his sleep by the bustle outside hanging about the school. It wasn't quiet and yet...the stillness of the night was penetrated so easily, silencing itself almost to a calm murmur and so was disarray spread. Elijah knew not was had befell the school but as he readied himself he moved with a fierce speed feeling the excitement of the moment as though he were already amidst it. With a haste he had never known, 'Lij' pulled his arm through the sleeve of a white button up, slipped his feet into some comfortable shoes and was out of his room before he realized what he was doing at all seemingly functioning more from instinct than anything else.
Those large blue eyes widened, reflecting the tongues of flame that leapt from the Science edifice catching on the slim sliver of silver that sparkled around his irises, reminding one of sparks flying from two blades colliding. The dark smoke rose high, setting in a deep worry in the boy causing him to search for the group he knew was bound to materialize at the scene. Elijah joined them swiftly, looking to various faces he recognized and the few he didn't and glanced toward the adults as well, wondering what was going on and how this happened.
The nearest student, Al, was the first Elijah approached. Too bad for him it seemed he knew just as much about him as to what happened there just some minutes before. "Umm...excuse me?" he asked, looking up to the student he knew he had not yet met, "What happened?"
