 It was that day of the year again...its the same day as last year! Usually the date being the same day of the last year is uneventful and a daily event, but this day was special, because today was Awendeo and Awinito's birthday! And just for them, their entire family was going to get together. Awendeo was so excited to get the family together, he wondered why they were so separate always. Whenever his mother and father saw each other, they always seemed to be passionate. Passionately fighting, but the passion was still there all the same. Right?
Awendeo didn't get relationships much. The concept of them were confusing to him. He didn't much understand the mind of females. He was told that a female's mind is a complicated thing. But then again, Awendeo didn't even get the mind of his own gender. When it comes down to it, nothing really makes much sense to Awendeo.'Kill me,' was the only thought that circled around Mara's mind. Fan-freaking-tastic. Masichuvio was coming to her kids' birthday celebration. And he was bringing his family and friends too? What a hellish day this will be. Mara could avoid them for some time, she knew that some of her family was coming. Her father was coming and her aunt and cousins planned to come as well. Hopefully they will arrive soon, or at least before Masichuvio does, so she can talk to them instead of greeting her kids' moronic father.

 Awinito trotted past his mother, giving her an affectionate bump on the way. Of course, he veered off in another direction before she could respond; she wasn't the friendliest sort. Awi was in a good mood anyway: it was going to be a party! Even if it might get awkward between his parents. It always did. Awinito never did understand exactly how their relationship worked but... In any case, he was determined to be happy today. He gave Awendeo a friendly shove. "Happy birthday to us!"  Masichuvio approached the scene cautiously. He tried to stay optimistic- today was for the boys. And he was proud of them, in spite of how little he saw them... and how much he was confused by their mother. Maybe she wouldn't be too abrasive today, with the extended family around...

"Why did you do that?" asked Awendeo, a bit offended by the bump from his brother. He frowned a bit, a little sad and hurt. He wished he could toughen up easier, but in the long run, Awendeo was a baby. "Yeah, happy birthday I guess," he mumbled in a babyish voice. "Are you excited for the rest of the family to come? Its been a long time since we were all together." Awendeo looked around and spotted his father. Daddy was here! "Daddy!" he exclaimed like a foal as he trotted towards his father with excitement.
Mara's face went flat. s**t. He was here and there was no family to keep her distracted. She gave a fake smile. A very fake smile - a very clearly very fake smile. Then the look of death, a look Mara had mastered. At this point, it was a reflex whenever she saw Masichuvio. "Hi," she spat out to him. Her tone wasn't a friend hello. It was a big '******** you' in sweeter words.

Awinito pulled a face at his brother. "It was a hello-bump!" he protested, grinning. "It didn't hurt you." Awi snorted coltishly, determined to keep Awendeo from being too morose. The arrival of Masichuvio was a welcome distraction, and he followed his brother cheerfully. "Hi, Dad!"
Chuvi discreetly rolled his eyes, turning a forcedly friendly face towards the mare who was raising his children. She was frustrating beyond belief, but he felt he'd have been a real jerk if he'd just left her alone with two small sons. Although he'd only been a young stallion at the time, Masichuvio had done his best to grow up quickly and do the right thing. No matter how much Mara resented (or even hated) him.
"Afternoon," he called, as pleasantly as possible, and pointedly ignoring her death-glare. Chuvi grinned at the sight of his two boys running to greet him. "Happy birthday, Awinito, Awendeo. How's the day treating you?"

At last, the interaction with him was over. Ugh, it was such torturous hell, those few seconds that it lasted. She couldn't wait till it was over. Fine, perhaps Mara was making a mountain out of a molehill, but that wouldn't be out of character for her. Of course, if anyone ever pointed out this character flaw, she will most likely bite their heads off in a flurry of hateful words. But now he was off talking to her, or "their" kids. She needed to watch this carefully, make sure he wasn't teaching them anything she wouldn't approve of. She didn't care how old they were at this point, she still saw their minds as fragile.
"Thanks daddy," said Awendeo. He preferred calling his father by 'daddy'. Calling him by 'father' or 'dad' was too mature and adult like. "The day is good, I guess. I mean, I think. I don't really know. Nothing bad happened so..." And now he was rambling. This was the point where Awendeo just shut his mouth.

Deliberately turning his back to Mara, Masichuvio nodded acknowledgment at Awendeo. "Well good. Has anyone else shown up yet?" It was hard not to talk to the boys as if they were still foals. Not that they were very old, of course (and neither was he) but they were close enough to adults. Physically, at least. The twins were easily as tall as Mara.

Masichuvio had asked just what Mara was thinking: Is anyone else here yet? It somewhat scared Mara that she had the same thought as Chuvi. Perhaps he wasn't as dumb as she had thought him to be, but she doubted that. "Nobody here is yet, just you," she said, once again with a bitter tone before adding another comment under her breath. "...unfortunately." Hopefully her father will be here soon to distract her from Masichuvio.
Awendeo gave a strange look to his mother, then to his father. Their relationship never failed to confused Awendeo's poor little mind. He understood that they didn't like each other, but despite how much his mom claims to hate his father, she sure talks about him a lot! This was going to be a hellish day. Maverick loved his daughter deeply, but he simply could not stand how disrespectful she is to the father of his grandchildren. He didn't care what issues she had with him, as far as Maverick was concerned, the stallion had done nothing wrong. Mara just once again needed to antagonize someone else in her life and fight yet another battle to prove some point. Maverick had finally taught his daughter to stop complaining to him about Masichuvio, but now that they'd all be forced together for the birthday, Maverick simply knew that this will not go well. He spotted the broken family not too far away. With a heavy sigh, he headed towards them. Hopefully his sister Randee and her kids will arrive soon to distract him from Mara's complaints.
That was probably not the most fatherly wish.
