Kadaj was sitting beside his mother as she licked at his fur, cleaning off the dry blood that covered a new gash on his body. He was always getting into fights, stupid fights at that. Sometimes he didn’t even know why he fought… really. This pissed Mjrn off.

He was her only son; she didn’t want him to kill himself over his stupid pride. Gods, he drove her mad sometimes. Roughly she finished cleaning him and stood up, her deep green eyes narrowing as she opened her maw and spoke out to her son, in a rather light tone. She wasn’t mad at him; she just didn’t want to lose her boy.

“You need to grow up, Kadaj. I am sick of you coming home like this. No more.”

Kadaj, right away didn’t like where this conversation was going, and just as quickly as she started to talk he stood up and looked away, as if he had not heard her at all. Snarling at her son Mjrn jumped at him, pushed him onto the dry ground and snarled, showing her dominance. She wasn’t weak and she wouldn’t let one of her own disrespect her in such a way.

“You will listen to me when I talk to you, Kadaj.”

He rolled his eyes and gazed up at her as she spoke, sighing.

“Fine.”

Mjrn moved herself off of him and allowed him to regain his stance before continuing with her bickering.

“I know you want to be the best at what you do, and I know your father has not really been there for you, but you must know that he cares, just as much as I do.”

Mjrn’s words were laced with lies, he could tell.

“Mother, I get it, I know. It’s fine, stop worrying about me. I have not been as many as I use to, alright?”

He frowned at her, his pale eyes narrowed.

“You must know that I am only saying this because I love you.”

He knew she was being true. Mother never gave him false words. He trusted her more than anyone.

“I know, Mother.”

She smiled slightly and nipped at his left ear.

“Now, for a question.”

She smirked. Kadaj’s ears propped as he frowned at her. What was she trying to get at?

“You found a mate yet?”

She almost spat out, laughing slightly.

“Mother! Shut up!”

Kadaj stood and snarled at her, batting at her face with a frown.

“It’s just a question; your father and I got together at around your age.”

He frowned deeper.

“And? I want to be happy, not unhappy.”

Mjrn frowned this time. Low blow.

“Fine—I will drop the subject for now.”

“Thank you.”

He sighed and stood up.

“I am going to go out to hunt now, alright? I will see you later tonight. Maybe father and sister too?”

“Maybe.”

Mjrn sighed and nodded, seeing him off. As soon as he left Mjrn sat herself down and yawned, licking at her paws for a moment. She wanted Tahka to come home soon. She had a lot of things she needed to talk to him about. A lot of things.
