I'm a jack-of-all-trades to some extent where low brass is concerned...

But, just out of curiosity, I was wondering which low brass parts people find to be consistently the coolest and why. Personally, I say euphonium...

...my reasons will come later...

I have no idea. @_@ I think euphonium or baritone. (I don't know the difference, 'cause I'm woodwind.) They sound really mellow and nice and stuff.

Baritone/Euphonium always get the good parts....

as far as I've heard, they get all the cool trombone parts plus more spiffy stuff...

not fair D=

i only said euphonium because the eupho sits next to me (i play trombone) and she sound SO GOOD when she plays solos.

occasionally i give mine to her because she plays so pro.

but trombones do get really cool bits with glissandos and stuff, but generally lower brass solos and cool bits get drowned out by woodwind/trumpet long notes.

narg~!

but oh well...

Not the Tuba by any stretch of the imagination.

I say trombone, because I've heard them get some pretty cool stuff.

Then again, the Baritone is in the other class, so I wouldn't know much about his parts.

Baritone/Euphonium. During concert season, our baritones played euphonium. I remember there being more euphonium solos than trombone and tuba, at least, in my band.

Depends on the style of music, and or who the composer is. Generally speaking you want whatever instrument that matches the sound you want to get the good part. Fanfares in low brass usually go to trombone(not always, it's what the composer wants!) because it is bright and projecting, similar to a trumpet in it's original purpose. Euphonium (perhaps Baritone, I'm still not sure of the difference...) characteristically has a rich, dark, resonant sound, though I've seen them get many a melody in march pieces. I've even heard Tuba get main parts before, so it's not an impossibility.
Being Biased, of course(just look at my sig!), I say all your best melody are belong to Trombone. ha ha ha....

I play trumpet, but I'd say tuba. My friend plays it. In one song in our concert, the whole song was his solo with the band playing back up. It sounded great.

It depends on the music. Baritones and Euphoniums often have the most complicated parts, but no one can sound as cool as a trombone gliss.

Trombones get some cool ones....if they can play them right wink
but Euphoniums get the most and the more complicated ones

Baritone/Euphonium. They have the most, and most difficult, and always sound good.
It makes me want to switch.
Although I've heard some breathtaking jazz trombone parts.
