The colour of the grasses on the savannah were slowly turning green and the impala were returning in force. This pleased palahala to no end. He could prance about all day with the impala, they were beautiful to him, a part of his domain and a driving force.

He had bounced with them to their grazing grounds and now he lay still and quiet in the long grasses, hidden by the gentle sway, his eyes half hooded, a content smile on his young maw.

He loved to play and spend time with the herds, even if it meant potentially being attacked by predators

The lioness was moving through the grasses with silent ease, eyeing the herd with hunger, but caution. Impala were quick, wily prey, and if she hoped to catch one today to feed she and her sister's need then she'd have to be quicker. To get as close as possible would provide the maximum chances of making a kill.

As far as lions went, really she was one of the kindest, but even she had to eat, and as there were no fishing streams or rivers nearby the next source, the best source to feed two grown lionesses, were larger prey beasts that traveled in herds.

Closer.... closer.... careful to stay downwind, to avoid putting any pressure on twigs or pebbles, nothing that would give away her position.

Palahalas ears flickered. he could hear soemthing, but he couldn't raise the alarm. Though he wanted to protect the herd around him, he was too smalla nd frighetend and raising voice might just get him eaten.

He lay still and waited, hopeing one of the Impala would raise the alarm. he could hear them moving about around him, the sounds of the herd shifting, moving, doing nothing and everything at the same time.

Then there came the sound. A grunt, the warning. he sighed, someone hasd seent he lioness. Laying very still he tried to make himself as small as possible, taking on that scentless form of an antilope. He couldn't run nearly as fast as the adult Impala so he would have to lay still and hope that he wasn't found.

He really didn't wanna be eaten.

Curse it, something had spooked the herd! Was there a shift in the wind? Maybe, or maybe it was just by dumb luck one of them had spotted her. Either way she had no choice now. Kinda growled and burst forth from the grasses at a flat out run, racing to catch any of the herd before they all got away, to corner one away from the others. The hunt was on.

As she went she blew right past the little godling unaware, aiming for an older buck who didn't seem to have quite the speed as the younger Impala. The meat would be a bit tougher but food was food and beggers were not meant to be chosers. It was the natural circle of things anyway for the old to die so that the young could live. Her claws dug in for traction, ripping grasses up in their wake as the lioness let loose a rumbling roar, first tripping, and then pouncing on her victim, latching on and refusing to let go until he had ceased movement.

Palahala felt the breeze of the lionesseds paws as she ran past him. Still he lay silent, his small compact little body moving closer to the ground.

It was only when he heard the dying cry that he moved. Instinct told him to run incase he was next and instinct told him to stay still so he couldn't be seen. Torn between these two conflicting arguments he made a strange lurch only to fall back in to his place, still once again, his eyes wide. from where he was sitting he could see the dead impala. he always hated to see anyone in his domain die, heknew it was the way of the world, but still it upset and unnerved him.

Swallowing hard, he hoped the lioness hadn't spotted his jerky movements, he really didn't want to be eaten!

Kinda had noticed, and lifted her head now as the beast finally lay still at her paws. She wouldn't move from her place just yet though, but now she wondered, had she orphaned some adopted or single parent Impala calf...?

"You can come out..." She called out between breaths, licking her chops. "I'm not going to hurt you. I've got what I need here."

She hoped it was not an Impala calf, as that would be terribly akward, but the chances were if she had orphaned one, knowing Kinda, she'd take it upon herself to find a way to care for it. Ridiculous in the eyes of any self respecting predator, but Kinda came from a mother who lived to nurture, and that kind nature had been passed on to her.

"I'm sorry if I frightened you." She added.

Palahala held his breath for a long moment as she spoke to him. She wasn't going to hurt him? Well, there was no guarantee of that, still he had been spotted, so he crawled, which was rather difficulft for him due to the fact that his front paws were hooves, fromt he long grass, revealing his slender, frightened form.

"YYou promise you won't eat me?" He stutters looking at the female with wide doe eyes, his small, high set ears turned towards her, all of his sences high on the fact that soemthign had been killed. And yet the whole time he avoided looking at the dead impala. He knew this was a killing to live, but he still didn't like to see them dead.

"It's kinda hard not to be frightened, I dun wanna be eated by a lion." He pouted.

Kinda's eyes widened as the godling emerged, and at first she didn't know WHAT to make of him. He acted like prey but he was clearly not.... any manner of creature she'd ever seen before. It was enough to make her forget herself for a moment, and before she could stop it she'd blurted out: "Wings...?"

She took in his front legs, his hooves, his wings, his tail, his back paws, he was... NOT any prey she'd ever seen before, and she didn't believe in demons this far out from sea, which could only mean--

"Are you a god...?"

She'd heard stories... and there was a god that supposedly resided somewhere near her birth pride, so it wasn't unheard of.

Palahala swallowed hard, clearly she was baffled by his apperance, he knew mortals could be surprised by gods, but this one seemed less interested in eatinmg hima nd more interested in the fact that he wasn't just any old creature.

"Yyes, I am a god, palahala, the god of prey." He whispers, his little voice nervous, he glanced only for a moment at the fallen body of his comrad before turning his full attention back to the lioness.

"I was resting with the Impala." he mutters one ear twitching around in a telescopic manner as he listened for anything else that might be around. Maybe this lioness ahd someone else with her? He didn't want to be ambushed. Not that he had a choice right now, by the time he got to his paws and hooves he would probably be eaten.

"Oh... I'm terribly sorry, I--"

It was the first time that Kinda felt at a loss for words, and she glanced down to the prey at her paws and then back up at Palahala, feeling a bit ashamed though she should have realized right off she'd done nothing wrong, but-- if this Impala had been a friend of his then it was the same as murder in her eyes. That's why she avoided knowing any prey-beast on any kind of personal level.

"We are what we are for a reason." he stated rather philsophically, "If grass had a mind of it's own I'm sure it too would feel the loss of it's companions." He sighed softly, he knew that prey beasts were rpey beasts for a reason. , that they mist die so others could live. That was the circle of life after all.

"I forgive you." he mutters looking to his tiny front hooves before raising, butt first and straightening himself.

"I should go, you need your meal." His ears twitched once again his large brown eyes glancing away in to the distance. "At least you only kill to eat. Everyone has to eat." His lips turn in a weak smile, he couldn't look at the impala again, it was dead and teher was no way of bringing it back, he felt the loss at his heart but that was the way of the world, his friends, his people must die so others could live.

"......." Then why did she still feel so heavy hearted? Kinda's eyes traveled from the godling to the corpse again, but she'd wait. She wouldn't feed until he'd gone, a show of respect, it was all she could do, because he was right and she did have to eat.

She looked up then, but she wasn't sure what to say now, everything she normally would was so wrong for the moment.

Finally, two words came to her, and she spoke them quietly. "... Thank you..."

Palahala gave the older female a gentle nod, looking one last time at the Impalas corpse, he let a sigh escape his maw. The only consolation, it seemed was that she had been so baffled by what eh was she hadn't attempted to eat him along side his comrade.

Once he had walked a short distance the little godling spread his wings but did not fly off, instead he bounced away, trying to regain his high spirits by galavanting like the prey beasts he so loved.
