Guys, I need help. I'm going to re-write a persuasive essay. And I have no idea what to do for a subject. My goddamn english teacher lost my essay, so I must write a speech. Remember: PERSUASIVE And I'll totally record it and post it up here if you think of one that I wanna do.
BUT IT MUST BE RELATED WITH BAND. Me and my trio are doing band-related topics. Friend A is doing: Why band is better than orchestra. Friend B is doing: Why you should join band.
I will be doing the speech Tuesday the third in my band class. BD is grading it. He is a 23-year old, straight out of college, dork.
TL;DR: Post your idea of a subject for a convincing speech. I am a floutist. I will post a recording of it here on Wedensday. :'D

If you do Marching Band... "Why marching band is a sport". xD Ummm...let's see. Straying away from band, slightly, then..."why music classes are so important". Eh, I don't know.

Here are some ideas, some with sub-points. Feel free to modify the mini-points etc.; they're just suggestions...
Why musical education (specifically band) should have its funds INCREASED? ------Band builds character (use mini-points/examples from later on in the post) ------Schools need to provide some instruments (i.e. tuba, baritone, euphonium, bassoon, etc.) ------In purchasing new, cool music with some of the funds, the program becomes self-populating because of "coolness" factor ------Band improves grades
Why musical education builds character and makes you a better person? ------Marching band, in particular, improves interpersonal skills and ability to focus ------You learn to see something as both a whole and the individual parts, which helps serve to broaden your world view ------You make strong friendships, and learn how to treat those friends well, since you have to be around them so much and fighting hurts the unit
Why band improves your grades? (don't mention the typical dip during marching band season) ------Improves math skills (uses same region of brain) ------Improves skill in working on verbal/written stuff (also uses same regions of the brain; yeah, music is a global process within the brain!) ------Band kids often help support each other accedemically (i.e. homework help, test review, concept explaination, etc.)
How jazz band improves project presentations? -----jazz improv translates into better spontaneous/off the cuff performance on anything (builds confidence), but especially oral presentations -----band makes you more aware of everything going on around you, so you are better at composing projects -----band as a whole (but especially marching band) means you have to work as a "team", so you ought to have improved interpersonal skills, which helps on group projects
I hope this helps!

Why band is a better then music class biggrin If you play an instrument your brian is visibly larger then someone who doesn't. Because you ahve to remember many things at the same time to play the music striaght. That is a real fact btw. It was on NPR.[[radio station]]

Why marching band should be a gym period (basically marching band during gym) 1. Probably more physically challenging 2. Garentee no slacking 3. it builds lip muscle for regular band 4. many people don't have time outside of school for marching band so do it during gym 5. scheduling practice is 10 times easier now 6. you can practice all year instead of just marching band season

So, last year my sister was a journalist for a magazine written by teens so they have the chance tospeak out about the world around them, and she did a topic on why foreign languages should be taught to younger students. She included band as another example of things that make children smarter. You could do a "Why Band should be given to younger students" thing. Arguements: -It improves intellegance. A band student is usually more liekly to do well. -Builds confidence. Band students have to pay out to be heard. And there are many more I can't think of right now.
Oh, and I like the idea of band as a gym period. It isn't even counted as a PE credit in my district! It stinks, because I am taking PE and then I have band next period. Terrible during marching0.o
