Fig grew up knowing that he was going to be special one day.
His mother is 'normal', without any psychic powers whatsoever - but, as she kept telling him every day, his
father was a famous Psychonaut. However, said father was also almost never around, and Fig knows him mostly from old photographs, short long-distance phone calls, and his mother's stories.
Because of his father's abilities, Fig's mother knew that her son had a high probability of developing psychic powers of his own. Sure enough, when Fig was eight, she caught him jumping off of his bookshelf and drifting to earth... with very little grace, true, but the speed of his descent was unmistakably altered. A quick call to those in the know resulted in a 'diagnosis' of Levitation.
Fig was quickly given a bit of training, just enough to prevent himself from killing himself or others. Starry-eyed at the thought of having the potential to be a Psychonaut like his dad, Fig began devouring comic books and reading everything he possibly could about psychic powers. His dad was off somewhere doing Cool Things, Fig himself had powers and was Super Special... and someday he too was going to be a Psychonaut, just like his dad.
Maybe he'd even get to meet him.
Ever since that moment, Fig's life has been focused on this one: his arrival at a psychic camp, the beginning of really honing his powers and climbing up the promotion ladder towards actually becoming a Psychonaut. True, he
wanted to go to Whispering Rock, but his mom was a bit intimidated and chose Murmuring Pines instead. So be it.
Look out, Murmuring Pines!
Oh, and why, you ask, is his nickname "Fig"? When Fig was younger and playing at being a Psychonaut on the playground, his mom would laugh and call him "a little figment". He will NEVER EVER admit that that is the source of the name, though. Ever.
