Ran sat idly at the edge of the Jungle of Sleep, staring out to the vast Crater Lake as her mind wandered endlessly. The sun was shining through the lightly clouded sky as a small breeze occasionally blew, rustling tree leaves as it went, bringing in cool air from the skies above. Taking in a deep breath Ran proceeded to put ease to her thoughts and watched a butterfly on a nearby flower.

Seraphina soared elegantly and blaze-like through the sky. She loved the feel of the air as it caressed her body and ran through her flaming feathers. As she gently flapped her wings sparks scattered to the sky above and she began to twirl slowly and gently back towards the ground.

A red and gold fin sliced through the water of Crater Lake, moving in fast on a green Painter sleeping on the rim. A white head surfaced, golden eyes pinned on their target ahead. With an almighty splash, the Merdrac’s tail flipped from behind her, soaking the unsuspecting male with a wave of water. Snorting in amusement, the wrathful look on her den mate’s face only served to increase her mirth.
“ Come on, mate! You were askin’ for it!”
" I was sleeping, you repungant vermin! I "asked" for no such thing!" snarled Grendel, the previously-sleeping Painter.

Ran noticed something flying in the sky, but she couldn't make out whether it was a painter or a phoenix. As it got closer to the ground she knew it had to be too big for a phoenix, thus stood up and prepared herself to face whatever it was. While doing so she noticed that there was something moving over at the lake as well. "Oh dear" she muttered, seeing that her peaceful time to herself had come to an end.

Seraphina drew close to the ground her wings flapping to help break her speed causing the flames to lick wildly at the air. Landing with breathtaking elegance Seraphina folded her wings in and took in the sights. Her golden eyes landed upon a brown painter, female, not far from herself. "Greetings!" she called in a voice that seemed to reach the heavens.

Grendel growled, wishing for an untimely demise to befall the water-dwelling nuisance that he was forced to share a den with. Said nuisance swam up to the shore, staying out of claw’s reach as her eyes scanned the rim, searching for the voice she heard. Spying two Painters, she called out,“ ‘ello chums! What’s the weather like up there?”

Ran was going to reply but found it hard to get herself to do so, thus bowed her head a little and folded her wings to her sides. She wanted to retreat somewhere but at the point of being approached by two painters it would be quite rude. Bringing out her courage she raised her head and said aloud, "G-good morning! Lovely weather yes?"

Seraphina smiled at the rather shy Ran and glanced past her to see a merdrac of peculiar coloring looking at them. "Oh well hello there dragon of the water. The weather is quiet lovely out here. How is the watery world today?" she greeted politely only to be startled by Ran's suddenly loud response to them.

“ Oh yes, it seems quite agreeable up here, if a bit dry. Down here it’s nice and wet, a tad cool with scattered jellies; very pleasant indeed.”
Alvilda’s voice had taken a formal tone, not too mocking but certainly not respectful. She was well aware of her “deplorable” – Grendel’s description, not her own – speech patterns, but this fiery Painter spoke in a way she’d never heard, and consequently Alvilda couldn’t help but have a little fun. However, her voice went right back to normal as she turned to address Grendel.
“ Where be yer manners, ya' great lump? ‘t isn’t very nice of ya' to be ignorin’ them ladies.”
“ My manners, cretin, evaporated with my rather rude awakening.” He shot back, huffily settling down as if preparing to go back to sleep. Shaking her head, Alvilda returned her attention to the other two Painters.
“ You’ll have to forgive Grendel; that forked tongue o’ his can sometimes be ‘bout as sweet as a maggoty, rotten carcass. I’m Alvilda; what be yer names?”

"I'm...called Ran" the brown painter shyly replied, wrapping her tail around herself as she sat down a bit further away from them. 'C'mon Ran...they're not that bad' she thought to herself, 'You can at least stay till there's a good opportunity to leave with good reason'

Seraphina eyed the merdrac and this Grendel. She cleared her throated quietly, "I am Seraphina, it's lovely to make your acquaintance Alvilda, Ran." But she ignored Grendel.

“ A pleasure to meet ya’ both.”
Alvilda dipped her head, the string of jewelry adorning her head fin swinging with the motion. She then cocked her head to the side and squinted her eyes before hauling her body a bit further up the crater’s rim.
“ Ya’ know, I got me a feathery den mate, but last I saw them fluffy wing o’ hers, dey weren’t on fire. You somethin’ dif'rent then her, or just special?”
At Alivilda’s question one of Grendel’s eyes opened slightly, trying to see what the Merdrac was talking about.

Ran watched quietly, taking notice to Seraphina's appearance. She hadn't seen a feathered painter before, nor one on fire for that matter. Taking a glance over her shoulder she could see the deep jungle, something she was uneasy on having her back turned to.

Seraphina blinked and the spread out her wings to look at them. Of course she was well aware of the fact that she was on fire. But she didn't feel like she was. "Well....technically I am a feathered painter or aviadracus. But I guess I am slightly different as I am as it appears...on fire." She pulled her wings back in and then thrust them out. Flames flicked off the ends of her flight feathers.

“ Hm, must be handy, having dem fire feathers. Never gots to worry ‘bout stubbin’ yer a toe in the dark, now do ya’?”
Inspiration struck Alvilda and her lips curled back in a mischievous smile when she spoke next.
“ Ya’ know, I’m mighty curious to see how dem wings o’ yours hold up down ‘ere in the water. Dere’s some caves I’ve been wantin’ to es’plore, but dey so dark I can never sees a thing in ‘em. You fancy takin’ a little swim? You’s welcome to come too, o’ course.” Alvilda added this last part for Ran.
{{ Obviously Alvilda speaks with an accent; I'm not that bad of a speller. If you ever need a translation, feel free to ask. XD }}
