Awesome!! Congratulations! Umm... I got something similar to that, I got Field Commander. The coolest thing about it, is the fact is dominantly a Senior position, and I got it as a junior; I get to have it two years in a row!! I'm very excited, but also very fearful of the responsibilities it holds. 0_0 Well good luck with your upcoming band year my friend. ^^

Well, I just auditioned for tuba section leader. None of us have gotten the results yet, drum majors or section leaders. We all know jeremy's going to get one of the drum major spots, but there has been much debate over who's getting the second one.

Here's a great tip: Keep your grades up. Not that you won't. Also, be sure to keep yourself on top of the game, in the music and on the field. It's a load of work, and I know that band isn't the only thing you're doing, but try to practice often.

Hey! congrats. I'm trying out for drum major as well. I guess even though you were selected, be sure to keep practicing your basics so you don't lose it.

yay! being drum major is fun! I have to wait another 3 years though before i can try out again. (you have to be a senior...ect ect ect)

and that really really sucks... cause it was so much fun this year. on the plus side though that means that I can be on color guard!

Congrats. My friend has been drum major for three years straight. Band has alot of drama so try not to let yourself get intimidated or too angry.
Her first year as assistant drum major made her cry on a few occasions. She still cries, but they're happy tears from awards and stuff. lol
My friend and I are librarian and we're in charge of music year-round. I had my first officer meeting yesterday. I'm happy. lol

Congrats! You should go to our Official Drum Major thread. It's a sticky in this forum. But anyways, I'll give you my advice here too. I'd highly recommend going to Drum Major Academy. It's run by George N. Parks, and he is amazing. Really, it teaches you everything you need to know about being a drum major (or field commander) - conducting, shouting commands, leadership, marching (in general, as drum majors should have a good understanding of marching and how to teach it, and the different things a drum major does for parades and such), the list goes on. You can look it up on google pretty easily. Other than that, get to know the music over the summer, if possible, and practice shouting commands, especially if you'll have to next year! I would also think about how I would teach freshmen how to march. Of course, I only got to teach a handful, but knowing the analogies you would use, you can tell them to section leaders who are having trouble. Good luck!

I'm also a drum major (2nd year wooo) and the only advice I have is always listen to everyone's ideas and don't abuse your power.
