I figured i'd post something about funny marching mishaps because nobody else has yet; I'm staring this on so we can share all of the stupid/funny marching accidents we've all had...
(I.E)... We were practicing night before a game and my section (the flutes) had marched to far backwards into the color guard. I accidently marched into one of the girls and knocked her over (which i appologized for); her boyfriend, a trumpet, said something about watching were i marched.... I said "yeah let me just grow eyes in the back of my head...", Then we tried it again and this time the girl next to me ended up 8-9 inches behind me (i think she was a freshman...) and had knocked the same girl over; at that time i started complaining because our color guard wasn't paying attention and i said "Next time i'll just hit her with my flute"(joking of course), and i swung my flute at the guard (with the head piece towards me), and the head piece flies off and lands and amazing 63 yards away.... But the real funny part was,... nothing was wrong with it when i got it back...not even a scratch mrgreen

Well actually I'm not in March yet. I'm trying out next year though so wish me luck. But my 6th grade band teacher told me this funny story.
It was in a parade when it happened. This trombonist was cleaning his slide. When it was time to go, he leaves ... without his slide. As they are marching, the trombones get ready for their first note. That boy blows into his trombone and no sound comes out. He finally realizes he forgot his slide. So he goes back to get it! Now at a parade, there were trucks that pick up the horse droppings. The man found his slide, picked it up, but his hand wasn't gripped on tight enough, so the slide goes flying into that truck. lol. Poor guy. After the parade he had to go digging for his slide!
Another story he told us is a sad one.
Again in a parade. There's this boy, he plays the tuba, was marching and thought it would be funny to put the tuba over his girlfriends head and blow into it. He did that but he blew way to hard. BLAAAUUH! He takes the tuba off his girlfriends head and she was crying. She turned around and then hits him with her flute. They both ended up in the hospital. The boy got 5 stitches on his lip and the girl was deaf in her left ear. Poor kids.
Thats it I guess.

Wellllll, this wasn't an accident at all but it was certainly funny! Our Band Director was the Drum Major in an Alumni band in our first parade, they were last to perform and our band was the third. So, after we were done marching, I went and sat ontop of this wall that had attacked me the year before when I went to sit on the wall (i defeated it this year ^^) to watch the parades from above, great view it is and almost all the bands perform right by it. Anyway, when the alumni band was coming, they were all in purple tees, a MASS of white tees was like devouring one side of the band. Like HALF of my marching band was like seriously stalking out Band Director as he Drum Majored. It was so freaking hilarious to see coming down the street~! Haha, youd have to have been there though.

I think mine is the kind "you shoulda been there"
But anyways our marching field totally sucks and has holes everywher lol. Im usually really good at avoiding them but one day Idk what happened but I was back marching and my heal was going down and didn't seem to ever stop going down.
everyone said it looked like slow motion bay watch. And I was sprawled out in the mud laughing because I re-sprained my annoyingly weak ankle.
This one is about a color guard member I know.
She was walking off the field to get a drink of water with everyone else (school day morning), but it was extremely muddy. When going to put her flag down on pavement she slipped and landed on her butt right in a deep puddle of mud. IT WAS SOOO FUNNY!!! Shes known as ditz in our band and poor girl, no one lets her live it down to this day lol. Happened a yeear ago.

well, my band director cough his pants on the stand when we were at practice and his pants fell down!! xd

Our BD gives us 5 seconds to run from one end of the practice marching field to the other when we get done with pre game
and one of our snares was running, and instead if pulling it up, he just kept running with it down, and he tripped on it, fell, rolled, got back up
and kept running
it was funny as hello
and then someone left their bike by the band room door, and when we were going in to get water, the big bass drum tripped on the bike, cracked the rim of the bass, and scratched himself up pretty bad
it was pretty
funny
yet sad
but he laughed about it once he was all cleaned up

Eh, I cant think of specific funny things anymore, to tired at the thought of a parade today and the day after. Thank goodness I get a week off next week! Ill be sad if I have to work alot ;-; Anyway, I have one that didnt happen in a parade or at practice but it happened to this guy who Im friends with on the Rifle Line in Color Gaurd. Well it was after or the night before our hometown and first parade and I invited him and a bunch of other people to our town carnival and blah blah. Anyway, when he was biking home, he hit a mailbox, totaling his bike and making him look like he got attacked by--well a mailbox. huge gashes all over the place, good thing "he doesnt feel pain" or rifle throwing would have been such a joy for the rest of the season! Oh also, my co-banner carrier accident hit herself in the head with the practice pole tonight! A had to be there moment, good times ^^

It was a late night Marching rehearsal, we were practicing a BE Scatter. Run from one end of the field to the other to our spots. Well this one girl tripped, and fell flat on her face. In the mud. Thank god we didn't have our uniforms.

Ahh yes, i remember last year durring Summer Band i was a freshman..soo i was purdyyy new at marching. and they were teaching the freshys how to march fast. we were marching our little box..and yeahh we were going to fast for me and i tripped over my own feet and fell with a huge THUD..and some guy tripped over my face. but im okay! biggrin
Anndd our FIRST performance that year some freshman flute fell to the ground at a football game..

So during my freshman show at Festival, there's a move that's always been a bit risky for tubas. Me and another tuba get very close passing by, and we always thought we'd ding. The first time it happened was Festival. It was loud, we lost our footing for a seond, and is on DVD forevers.

This one time during practice, one of our tenor drummer Matt was marching backwards and we had moved one of the speakers on the field right in his line of marching and he didnt notice it and tripped on it and ended up sitting on it without missing anything, he just kept drumming, it was very funny. Also our other tenor drummer, Courtney, kept messing up on a part of the music and our BD came down and they started to mess around with each other. Courtney kept throwing her drum sticks at him and he got them and threw them in different directions and told her to get them, but he missed one and they both ran for it. Mr.Brown (BD) put his foot on it and she couldn't get it cause he's a pretty big guy and she just yanked at it so hard, he stumbled backards and almost fell over. The whole band was watching them and kept laughing, it as great!

This wasn't exactly on the field, but at a football game, up in the stands, during third quarter, a guy in my section got a really bad nosebleed. We had no paper towels or tissues, and our BD goes psycho if we leave our section for any reason.
He was trying to not get blood all over his uniform when suddenly the assistant section leader cries, "WAIT! I have a clean tampon!" She gave the package to him, he took one, and shoved it up his nose.
...hey, it stopped the bleeding sweatdrop And it gave us some great pictures for the end-of-year band banquet rofl

This happened at a practice for competition last year well, when we begin, we're in parade rest- our instruments are down and our feet are under our shoulders. The drum majors or a BD is supposed to put us into tee hut-[DM (clapping): Band Tee Hut! Band:N-F!; without missing a beat] instruments not at the mouths, but ready to snap for roll off and feet together. And then they're supposed to give the order to mark time (DM-clapping the tempo-:Mark, time, Mark! and then the bandwaits for the fourth beat and starts marking time with the left foot on the fifth beat) Well, sweatdrop they forgot to put us into tee hut. instead, they started 'mark,time,mark! rofl In the immortal words of one of the BD, might have been Stocks, the color guard director, we were marching like pregnant women neutral whee smile biggrin lol rofl
