Halp! Marching band is starting tomorrow!
Okay, I don't mind it when we're actually playing, but I hate football!
Can anyone tell me how to survive and retain my sanity during football games even though I have no friends? emo (Okay, I have friends, but they're all singers.)

Stand cheers! Get the band good music and play it well and if you're lucky, people int he crowd might actually notice the band other than to shout "Down in front." Maybe... Football games are pretty lousy, especially when the outcome is obvious before halftime. It comes with the job though, so you just have to put up with it. Make friends with some other bandies and be your own game commentators or something and see if you can get the whole band laughing by the end of the season.

Don't even worry about the football game. Know that all the fans are there to watch you and the rest of the band rock out. 3nodding And sooner or later, you'll make plenty of friends in band. Bringing large Pixy Stix for your section is a slightly expensive but quick way to do this. And once you're all sugar high, it doesn't really matter what's going on on the field.

I'd say at least half-heartedly watch the game. I didn't always like football, but after awhile you start picking up on it and learning to like it out of obligation.
If you're really averse to watching the game, try talking to people around you, or people-watching.

Depends what you can get away with.
My best friend plays the same instrument as me, so we just chill untill theres a touch down, or we play.
the trumpets have little games they play in the stands, but i dont know what exactly they are cuz I don't play trumpet.
and then there was the great game of "musical instruments." (...punny huh?)
we all traded instruments and tryed to play "Slammin Jammin' letter C" we actually didn't sound bad. i played Trombone (hah! My sister plays trombone and showed me how to play that song.)
**And ... your poll is sad... I love marching band!**

lol, we always cheer for our team or another member in the band (when we have a dance off during the drum cadances.) ...i tend to watch the mascots sometimes becuse ours liked to make fun of the band directors or other important people when they're not looking. ...what our trombone and uphonium section did, was they got together and practiced a song a played it in the stands, lol. the drum major's were baffled, they didnt get into trouble only because they did good at it and the crowd liked it, lol.

When all else fails...
DANCE.
Seriously, if the whole band does some dancemove-like thing to a cadence, it's much fun. OR, get moving when you play. Our sousaphones (with me!) do it, and it works for entertainment.
Other people had it pretty right on with ideas, too.

If all else fails, use the 'I have to go to the bathroom' excuse and never return. It's pretty sad, but it works for most of the worst circumstances.

Really? I find football games sooo much fun.
Does your football team have a pep group? If so, the band should learn and start using some of the cheers. It sounds dorky, but it really livens up the band and the crowd. (Considering our cheerleaders don't, haha.)
Our school is pretty lucky, though. Our football team has a high amount of respect for our band, so we all have fun at the games, etc.
There's this fun one that we have...it goes a little something like this: Band: Hey [insert group here]! Group: WHAT?! Band: Hey [insert group here]! Group: WHAT?! Band: Hey [insert group here]! [insert group here] [insert group here] GETUPGETUPGETUPGETUP GET UP!
And then the drumline provides a catchy beat for everyone to groove like a dork. ;]]

Meet the freshman, we had a crazy group this year, and all of our sections almost would dance, like all out, I taught one how to call people whores in German, and if you band has a loading Crew, JOIN, you miss half the Foot ball game.
