User ImageAmidst the cold grasses, the wind swept against the barren ground where a black form had lain peacefully, taking in the comforts the darkened ground had to offer. The shape held still, as if lifeless, though its faint breathing and beating heart would be obvious to the trained observer. It had been a while since the land had embraced this certain black form, and so the harsh sounds of the winds that had blown through the landscape had softened to a quiet hush that welcomed the little lioness.

But it was not just a lioness that graced the night with her presence, an observer would note from the two abnormal appendages growing from the sides of the black form. And she was not lifeless, as at the stroke of midnight, as the moon reached its highest, something startled the small cub's slumber, and she lifted herself up almost immediately, resting on her haunches. Her gaze turned to the bright moon and stars in the sky, and she continued her locked stare, an unperceived smile on her expression.

It was as if... she was waiting for something.

Khari, has been drawn, in the deep recesses of night to this forsaken land, where life no longer existed. Questions eluded her, her mind concluding that the reason was to be revealed. The spirits had beckoned her, leading her until they faded, disappeared from sight. Khari's white form could easily be seen in the distance, as she stood on the cliff edge, the teetering edge fatal to anybody else but the ones that remained.

Taking a deep breath, her large wings protuding from her sides rustled in the calming breeze, as a sliver of her attention was brought to a dark form that laid upon the ground. The light of the full moon shone upon the small form, bathing her in a glow that was simply, not a mortal's. Khari felt an instant kinship to the small form, every nerve in her body telling her of the familiarity that they shared.

Her wings fluttered, as she leaped across the length of land that separated the two from each other, now only a mere few feet away. "Little one" Khari motioned softly, her voice carrying on the winds of this silent night, "Have you called me?". Her voice was of sincere puzzlement, her purple eyes stricken with a vague sense of longing, of a realization that was yet to come.

The winds carried the scent, and now, form that she remembered so well, yet in another lifetime, to the dark cub. The breeze brushed past her cheeks, almost in a kiss, and she turned to the physically older lioness, unable to help a smile cross her face.

She instinctively, as a cub, wanted to draw nearer, and snuggle within the confines of the white lioness's body, as if she were a mother; but she knew it was not so. However, that didn't stop her from pawing a few steps closer, so she could sense the emitting warmth of the other goddess.

"Do you remember?" she asked quietly, a hope in her voice. "I feel like I've awoken from a long slumber," the cub continued to voice in a hushed tone.

A yawn came, embarrassingly enough, and she turned away momentarily in shame.

"The day must have lasted for centuries," she spoke mostly to herself, flexing her wings out to match the starlit night. "Is your name the same as I remember it..?" she hesitantly asked, both inquiring to jog her memory, and to reassure herself of the connection the two shared.

A reunion. That was exactly what this was; memories flooded her of a past that was shared between the two lionesses long ago. Long, even for a god where time was the only thing that they could hold onto. "I do." She answered softly, a gentle smile tugging on her lips. The identity of the adolescent lioness, how could she not have recognized it?

The mention of the passage of time had the goddess staring at the dark sky speckled with stars. It resembled Bast's wings very much, Khari always having consoled herself with the night sky during her long slumber. "Indeed." She answered with a trace of wistfulness. It had been years ago, yet her memories displayed it as vividly as if it had happened yesterday. Her gaze remained here, as if to remember a forgotten memory.... until she turned back to the dark cub with a nostalgic look. "It is still Khari." The older goddess approach the younger one, sitting next to her with ease. She tilted her head, willing to answer any questions that Bast asked of her. To rekindle the relationship that had been dormant for a long, long time.

"What of yours? And was your sleep well?" They would have time to discuss later. Everything that happened, the separation of the two family members. There was so much to ask that it was almost impossible to know where to start. It was only natural that you'd start at the beginning then.

"Khari," the black cub repeated, now fully acknowledging her relation to the bigger goddess. "Good to know you are as it seems you have been."

As the winged white lioness approached, she could no longer resist temptation, and came closer to the other so that they made physical contact; she laid her head on Khari's arm, and nuzzled warmly, taking in the soft coat. It felt like she had never experienced such coziness before!

The young cub took her time in answering Khari, taking in the relaxed moment and the comfort of the other at her side. "I know I am Bast; it has been that way for a long time now, hasn't it? That much I know." She then pondered, showing a petite frown in evaluating the next question, "Sleep? It's unsuitable for my craft, Khari."

And the answer was unknown to her, as well; was what you'd call it "sleep", then? Bast was unaware of how much time had passed since she last took to the skies, making sure the dark blue cover blanketed above the horizon. Multitudes of names were forgotten to her--places, events, and most other things not pertaining to her duty. Yet, she remembered family, and a vague idea of what transpired in the past, though it now felt like she was someone else when those incidents and meetings did occur. She was new now, again. She then wondered what happened now, to be so little again, but thought it best to leave the thought alone.

"I feel like we didn't see much of each other before," Bast commented, sorting through the faded "memories" through her mind. Whether it was true or not, though, she wasn't sure; only Khari, having obviously aged beautifully and without interruption, would know.

Bast didn't know where to start, either.
