User ImageJethro hummed softly to himself, moving back into the Baharimtoto lands after almost a week's absence from the area. It couldn't be helped, really, as the gray male had other places to see along with the beautiful beaches of the pride. He had spent a lot of time mingling with a couple other lions, along with meeting some other animals. Strange, as he had never imagined himself the type to befriend animals that were outside of the cat family. Still, there he was, one week later with a wild dog and a jackal as minor buddies. So weird. But most welcome.

He sighed softly to himself.

As much fun as he had been having meeting new creatures and exploring more of the land, in the back of his mind he just couldn't stop wondering about the female he had met and explored a jungle with. Had Kamaria forgotten all about him? He reckoned so. After all, they had only met the one time and after that encounter he hadn't dropped by at all. Such was the life of a busy rogue male. Now, however, he was back. And eager to see if he couldn't track down the lovely lady again for another visit. Who knows? Maybe they would find something knew to talk about.

He hoped so. She had been the only one he really enjoyed speaking with. Plus, he was curious to find out how her sister and the cubs were doing. He hadn't been just trying to humor her when he said he wanted to meet them.

Around his right leg, fastened with something that would pass as string, was the shell she had given him. He had made sure to find a way to keep it around as a reminder that he would eventually need to come back to the pride to check in on her. There was no way he was going to let his scatter-brain mind lose its grip on his memories of their encounter. Looking around, he frowned, not entirely sure where he might find her. His first instinct was to head to the beach where they had first met. Carefully he moved along to the shore, keeping a sharp eye out.

User Image After his departure, Kamaria found that not only was she unable to sleep, but thoughts of her adventure with Jethro would not leave her mind. When she finally reached her den, she crept inside and made herself comfortable. For hours, the lioness tossed and turned, until her body was so weary that sleep, forcefully overcame her.

When she woke the next morning, Kamaria quickly made her way to the beach in which they met. Jethro had mentioned that he might return and while Kamaria knew that it was incredibly soon, she did not want to miss him if he chose to show up. The Bahari'mtoto was large and it would be difficult to find her if she was not in a familiar area. Finding a nice shady spot to rest, the lioness waited. And Kamaria waited for five days following, until her family began to wonder and strangers questioned her long rests on the beach alone.

On the 7th day since their meeting, Kamaria struggled to avoid the area in which the two lions met. She had promised Senatla that she would take out the cubs to play and set out in order to find her sister. It would do the lioness some good to get the male off of her mind and the cubs were perfect for just that!

Padding out onto the beach and towards the rock caves, the lioness began to ask lions that she was familiar with whether they had seen Senatla or the cubs.

Excitement made him wiggle a bit as he stood on the beach, a shiver running down his spine. There was so many thoughts and feelings running around in his mind that he honestly didn’t know what he was going to do when he found her- assuming he found her at all. Would she be angry with him for not showing his face in so long? It was beyond his control, though he would not try to defend himself if she started to yell at him. She had every right to be a little peeved. He had said he would come back and he had taken his time in doing so.

Anyway, being yelled at was better than not being spoken to at all. He didn’t know what he would do if she didn’t speak to him at all or acted like he was a stranger. There were nights where he had stayed up just thinking about her. Having her pretend not to know him would just kill him on the inside.

A crushing blow indeed.

Moving along the beach, he found his heart steadily climbing up his throat with every heavy, adrenaline driven step he took. Now that he was actually in the lands, where he had met up with her the first time, he was nothing but nervous. It was a good thing he had already used the restroom prior to coming.

For a while he saw no sign of her, almost giving up his search. Thankfully, though, he struck gold when he decided to check near the dens she had shown him before. A good memory guided him precisely, and before he knew it he was once again watching her frame move over the rocks from a distance. The grin on his face was epic, spreading almost from ear to ear.

“Kamaria!” He called lightly, leaping forward to catch up to her, “Kamaria! Hey there!”

It seemed Kamaria was at a loss for finding her sister. When she turned to retrace her steps back to the den in order to search there, she swore she saw him. The familiar large male with the bold purple eyes. In disbelief, the lioness shook her head, but when she opened her eyes the male was gone. A worn laugh was all that came from Kamaria's mouth as she felt her body become heavy and her feet sink deep in the sand.

Why was she holding hopes of his return? He was a rogue and certainly had a lust for adventure. There was nothing keeping him attached to the Bahari'mtoto other than a single exploration with a strange, new lioness. Kamaria knew she was wasting her time hoping that she had made an impression.

The memory of their farewell, however, remained strongest within the female. He was so reluctan and she could not simply leave them with 'goodbye'. Was his slow departure because he knew that he would never actually return, or because he really wanted to stay?

Kamaria, exhausted from her long nights on the beach in thought, padded slowly through the sand. It would have been so much good for her to find her sister. Why couldn't the Gods give her a hand?

Pausing for a moment to catch her breath, the lioness breathed in and then slowly released her air. While doing so, a familiar voice called out to her. "J-jethro?" Came instinctively from the female's mouth as she turned about frantically in order to find him. When her amethyst eyes caught site of his form, all questions seemed to vanish in her mind.

"Jethro!" She called out again, running in his direction in order to meet halfway.

After the pleasant encounter with Thili, mother and son walked together down the beach. Sewelo darted under and around his mother chatting excitedly. All the while, Senatla just smiled and kept going, commenting back to her cub with the up most patience.

Kamaria had said she'd watch the cubs, though Senatla didn't complain and it was a meeting she was glad her son was therefore, she still wondered what had kept her. As if someone knew who she was looking for, she heard the name of the lioness she was thinking about carried on the salty ocean breeze. Looking to her side, she saw another dark furred lion, much less so then the one she had just spent the day with, as well as..

Sewelo spotted his aunt ahead and called out, "Auntie, Kam!" Headless to the unknown male, the small hybrid ran with all his might to his aunt. The sand slowed his cubbish speed, but nothing could slow the exuberance that he held.

Yes!

She was happy to see him. That was a good reaction in his books. Had she turned and run the other way he probably would have had to veer into the ocean or something in his sorrow. Well, maybe not, but he most certainly would have pouted like a child and sulked for several long hours on the beach.

His pace quickened, all worry fleeing from his mind as delight elated his soul. It was strange to see someone one barely knew again, only to realize just how much she had been missed. He never thought himself the type to really grow attached to someone, especially in so short a time. But it had happened regardless of his inner perspective of himself; he was more than happy to see Kamaria again.

Meeting up with her in the sand, Jethro skidded to a stop in front of her, moving so fast he had very nearly crashed into her in his excitement. Not the best way to say hello to someone, he reckoned, even if for the second time. Still, he was happy to lean his head forward and give her a gentle head butt, grinning from ear to ear still as he did so.

Boy, it was nice to see her again.

“Hello Kam!” he all but barked, looking her over just to make sure she was the same as the last time they had met. A week though it had been, it suddenly felt like an eternity since last he had the chance to look over her unique frame and fur. Those spots. His fascination with them had come back in leaps and bounds, captivating him once more with their beauty.

“Sorry it’s been so long since I was last here!” he offered quickly, not wanting to let the topic fester, “I was so wrapped up in looking over some other places… then I met a few other animals… time just slipped through my paws and before I knew it a week had gone by! I wanted to come back sooner, I really did. Did you miss me?” He asked with a coy smirk, tail swaying from side to side in his excitement.

Blinking, he found his glee on hold for a moment as confusion moved in, sounds of another voice drifting to his ears. Turning his head, the deep gray male spotted another female heading towards them, along with a cub sprinting awkwardly over the sand. His smile returned, the sight of the cub creating more jubilation in him than he allowed to be seen. They had to be Kam’s sister and one of the cubs she had spoken so fondly of before.

When Jethro skidded to a halt, Kamaria had to force herself to simply sit still and wait for conversation to bloom. She was so glad to see the male, but felt almost foolish with just how happy she was. Smiling broadly, the lioness looked him over, as though to check if anything had changed, or maybe just to make sure that it was really him. Once her gaze reached his paw, she realised that he wore the small conical shell that she had gifted him with. Kamaria's face lit up and she wondered if she would ever gather the courage to explain just why she felt the need to give it to him.

Struggling to find the right words the say, Kamaria was caught off guard when Jethro leaned forward to nudge her with his head. The lioness let out a light giggle as he did so and returned the gesture gently.

"Hello Jethro," the lioness said politely. Kamaria had already said the males name multiple times while running towards him, but saying it again still felt wonderful. It was the reassurance that she needed to know that this was real and that he really had returned to the Bahari'mtoto.

Kamaria listened as Jethro apologised and she couldn't help but laugh again, "No, no no." She began, shaking her head, "You have no reason to apologise Jethro! I only ask that you tell me all about your adventures!" In truth, the lioness was comforted by the male's apology, but knew that it was not necessary. As much as Kamaria hoped for it, Jethro still had no attachment. They were still strangers to one another.

Jethro's last question had the spotted female turning an even brighter pink. "M-me?" She stuttered. Before she had a moment to answer, another voice could be heard quickly approaching. "Senatla! Sewelo!" Kamaria called out, quickly dodging the previous subject and running off to greet them. Jethro's appearance almost had the female forgetting her promise she had made earlier.

Once Kamaria had reached her family, she knelt down to nuzzle the small cub with a smile. "You're getting so big, Sewelo!" She commented. Even though she saw her family every day, it still surprised her with how quickly the cubs were growing. Looking up to Senatla, Kamaria's cheeks still burned brightly and she obviously had a lot on her mind. "Good morning, Natla."

It was as her cub was running that the mother noticed the unfamiliar male. As mother's instinct went, her ears went back and she gave the male a hard look. It did appear that Kimaria knew him, and surely her sister would not turn her back on a male she thought was dangerous. Relaxing, she smiled and walked calmly behind her cub towards her friend looking to the newcomer and commenting, "Greetings." Back to her sister she responded, "Good morning, Kam." It really was, and it looked like both she and her sister were making new friends.

Sewelo was a bundle of energy with plenty to say, but he calmed enough affectionately return the nuzzle. With pale white chest puffed out he told her, "Yep, I even took down a great big lion today!" He was truly the master of battle. Looking to the new guy, he made sure to show how tough he was by roaring or more the fact mewing as strongly as he felt he could take on the world and beat it with one paw tied to another.

Senatla added in to the adventure her cub was retelling in such grand fashion, "We met a new friend, traveling through these lands." It didn't quite happen the way he said it did, but she wasn't going to ruin it for her son.

Following her gaze to the shell, he raised his paw, almost giggling as he let the shell bounce against his fur. “Do you like what I did with it?” he asked lightly, “I wanted to make sure I kept it around, and carrying it in my mouth wasn’t doing much for me. I like wearing it like this, I think it looks good! What do you think?” He asked, lowering his paw again and looking once more at the female.

He found he couldn’t keep his eyes off her for very long.

“Really?” Hummed the gray male, “I feel like I do. I shouldn’t have stayed away so long. I missed seeing you, you know. I think you have some kind of a spell on me or something! I couldn’t stop thinking about you while I was running around being an idiot.” He laughed at that, realizing that he was probably saying more than he really needed to at that point. Jethro was prone to speaking more than he should. He needed to train his mind to tell himself to stop his sentences one line before what was normal for him. That way he would probably avoid embarrassing himself.

Or at least cut it down.

“Don’t worry,” he said quickly, as though trying to cover his tracks after making himself look silly in front of the lass, “I promise I’ll tell you all about what I’ve been doing. Though, really, there’s not much to talk about. Now that I’m back here all my other experiences pale in comparison. I’m just happy to be back.” He smiled warmly at that.

Watching her run off before finding the answer he had been looking for, Jethro let his heart sink. Telling himself she was just excited about seeing him again and showing off her family now that they were near, the large animal let the matter drop. If it came up again later, he would happily repeat the question and wait for whatever it was she had really been thinking upon seeing him. For that, he would happily wait as long as he needed to. He watched her run to her sister, keeping himself relaxed as the stranger looked his way. There would be no wrong impressions on his watch. He wanted to make sure she knew that he was not a threat and would not harm her or her cub.

“Hello!” He returned in his own greeting, offering the new female a polite bow of his head in respect. “My name is Jethro. It’s an honor to meet you.”

His eyes turning down to the cub, Jethro listened to the squeak of a roar and gave a half chuckle. “My my!” he said, lowering himself to the ground, “that’s a mighty roar you have there! But I don’t know. Could you really take down a “great big lion” all on your own? What do you think? Could you take me down too?” He watched the boy, smiling. The kid certainly seemed alive with energy.

Ah, to be young.

When Jethro had showed Kamaria the shell, the lioness smile turned to one of embarassment. The conical shell had such a deep meaning and here Jethro simply adored it because it was a gift. As he waved it around, the lioness nodded. "It looks great. I'm so glad you held onto it."

Kamaria was surprised that even though she let Jethro know his apology was not needed, the male pushed on. And he spoke of how he missed her and how she must have cast a spell on him. Kamaria was quick to avoid the male's question earllier, but couldn't help but melt at each and every word that he spoke.

As the lioness listened quietly to him speaking, increasingly embarassing himself, her worries slowly drifted away. It was such a comfort to have Jethro say everything first because then there was no concern as to whether or not Kamaria's feelings would go unreturned. In a life filled with heartache, one could not be too cautious. With Jethro, however, there was obviously no need. Was Kamaria being too trusting? The male returned once, but that was not to say that he would come back again.

Looking back to Jethro, the lioness shook her head slowly. No. Jethro was different. No other male had inspired Kamaria to this extent. As the group began to converse with one another, Kamaria couldn't help but glance between all those who were present. Kamaria caught site of Senatla's form becoming nervous and watched as she relaxed slowly. She was also impressed by how much Jethro seemed so gentle and friendly with Sewelo - certainly characteristics of a good father.

Kamaria turned bright red and leaned down in an attempt to hide it. Sewelo's demonstration of bravery had Kamaria's smile growing even broader. The young hybrid had such a bold little personality. Nuzzling him once more, Kamaria let out a light laugh before answering him. "Wow!" She exclaimed, "That is something! Were you protecting your mama? I'm sure you can take care of her all by yourself now!" When Senatla added to the story, Kamaria nodded in understanding.

Since they had joined the Bahari'mtoto it had been difficult to make friends and suddenly it appeared as though the group was finally feeling comfortable to branch out and take advantage of the kindness of those amongst the pride. Ironically, both Kamaria and Senatla were more comfortable making friends with visiting rogues. Perhaps it was the understanding because it was not long ago they were in those same shoes.

Watching Senatla with a gentle smile, Kamaria hoped for a moment soon in which he could speak with her sister and explain everything that she had kept bottled up for so long. When they were wanderers, Kamaria was almost the unappointed leader of the group, constantly forcing a brave face and taking care of the others. Now that they were safe, the lioness wished to express her true feelings and everything new that was going on.

The small cub beamed under his aunt's words, nuzzling her back with full force purring ever so lightly. Her last words had him hopped back as he responded, "I did, knocked him right over, and showed him that no one messes with my momma while I am around." Attacking the sand, he tossed it every which way showing his prowess.

It would be all good, but this new comer doubted him, face scrunched up in cubbish determination, he stood to prove it. Wiggling his bottom a second or too, he ran at the male, ears down and small teeth showing. Rawring and leaping up into the air, he came back down again and kept going. At his prey, "I'll get you!" He would too, a tiny ball of fur and heart. Once more, he leapt, going forepaws first into the male's shoulder, no claws used. Not giving up yet, he also bit at the mane, pulling and growling up a storm with all his fur standing out doing a great job at making him look even fluffier.

Senatla watched unsheathing and drawing back in her claws, making worry lines in the sand. It was fine to attack lions that were known to be friendly, but she worried about encouraging the action. What if her son went after someone that wasn't? Would she be able to jump in and distract them fast enough to save him?

Trying to ease her worries, motherhood aging the rogue-raised lioness far too much, it showed sometimes, she thought. With the waves in the background, the uncertainty was pushed through for now and she heard the male out. Visibly blinking, she quickly tried to hide the signs of utter surprise. Jethro had to be the absolutely oddest sounding name she had ever heard. Not about to be rude if she could help it, her response was given with a very warm smile, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Jethro. Are you the one that has been borrowing my sister from me?" There was a little grin as she looked to Kamaria, deflecting her actions with teasing, something still left over from the cub within.

Jethro took a step back as the cub shot sand everywhere while talking to Kamaria. He chuckled, pleased to see such energy in the boy. It was also nice to know that the young lad was happy to try and protect his mother, even though Jethro was a little skeptic about the true details of whatever encounter the child had had with any larger male. But he wasn’t going to spoil the kid’s fun by asking questions that might bring too much light onto what happened for real.

As the cub took to showing his powers, Jethro hunched down, pushing his paws out in front of him while his butt hung in the air, his tail swaying casually from side to side. Naturally he didn’t show teeth nor claw towards the young one, merely smiling as he made his threat. “Show me what you can do!” he laughed back to the boy, waiting in his stance as the little one charged over on those stubby legs. He had to fake a reaction once he was run into, lest leave the child to bounce right off his shoulder like a rubber ball against a wall. Shifting his weight back after the attack, he raised his head, almost to allow a better attack at his mane.

It wasn’t like he had to worry about that tiny mouth getting around his throat.

“Oh no!” he gasped nonetheless, “I should never have challenged you! You are strong!” He let himself fall over, though turned over in the ground as the cub still held onto his fur. This pulled the cub up on top of his body, as though the young boy had managed to pin him down all on his own. On his back, he looked over at the two ladies, offering them both a smile.

“Yes, I suppose I’m guilty of that!” Jethro claimed, “though only the once. But be warned, now that I’m back I may just have to borrow her a lot more.” He eyed Kam for a moment, giving her a more coy smile.

Looking back at the cub, his grin turned more playful. “You’re going to be a great protector when you grow up.” He put a paw down on top of the kid, though kept his hold loose so he could wiggle free whenever he so chose, “but if you think I’m down for the count so soon you’ve got another thing coming! Why don't we play again later?”

Jethro enjoyed children, though this was the first time he had gotten to play with one, really. Aside from when he had been a cub, of course.

Kamaria laughed at Sewelo's antics, glad that the cub and his mother had been off enjoying themselves. She would have to ask Senatla just why the small cub had attacked a stranger. She had a growing suspicion that things didn't go quite like the cub had described them. She wouldn't be the one to try and dampen his excitement though.

Before the lioness was able to speak again with her nephew, she watched as he ran suddenly towards Jethro. Sewelo jumped into the air and then landed onto the male's mane, thrashing about with his paws extended and his small fangs bared. With wide eyes, Kamaria wanted to reach out for the cub and grab him by the scruff, but by Jethro's reaction it was absolutely unnecessary. Jethro played along with Sewelo and as Kamaria watched the two, she couldn't decide which one of them was more the cub at heart.

Turning her head to see how Senatla was coping with her son's action, Kamaria could tell that her sister was tense. She watched as Senatla extended her claws and returned them, as though keeping herself busy so she would not act out inapproprietly. Leaning closer and offering a gentle nuzzle, Kamaria tried to comfort her, "Senatla, I may not have known Jethro for long, but I know he would do nothing to harm your cub. I mean.." Kamaria said, returning her gaze towards the two, "Just look at him. If he wasn't so big, you might guess he was just one of Sewelo's cub friends."

As she continued to watch the two males fight almost ridiculously, the lioness noticed Jethro's smile and returned with one of her own. Kamaria blushed when Senatla asked if he was the one stealing her up and even brighter when Jethro said he would have to do it more often.

Not long after Jethro spoke to Senatla, he returned to challenge the pale colored cub. Shaking her head with a laugh, Kamaria had figured something like this would happen. By how fondly Jethro spoke of having a large family and his love for cubs, the lioness knew he would hit it off perfectly with her neices and nephews.

Sewelo, the best fighter in the whole of the Savanna, up held his title as he managed to pin another full grown adult lion all by himself. Growling up a storm, he played and bit at the mane until he got fur in his mouth and pulled away making an ackward face as he ridded the the substance from his velcro like tongue charatristic of all cats.

Chest puffed out he agreed, "Thats right, I am, I can protect Momma, Auntie Kam and my siblings." He could do it all by himself blinded even because he was just that awesome. Standing proudly he looked more like a young king then the little hybrid of no standing besides with his family.

Most of the adult converstion went over his head because he didn't try to get into it, though hearing his aunt would be taken more by this guy did little to make the cub happy. Moment passed and there was more to occupy his thoughts. "I'll win, everytime." boldly he proclaimed when the lion talked about another challenge and later playing. Wiggling from under paw, the cub lept from his spot of victory, landing with all paws hitting a similar, remincent of the other half of his blood.

She kept watching, a mother concerened and yet happy at the same time. Her claws kept digging worry lines in the sand, they would fill naturally before they were dug again. Snapped from her thoughts, she looked over to her sister and sadly said, "Its not that, both lions he went after were friends and eager to play along, I am afraid of giving him too much confidence. What if a stranger walks into the lands and he attacks him while I am not close enough to stop it?" She dreaded to think what might happen to her young son if he attacked the wrong lion.

Trying to ease her fears, she put each paw in where her worry lines were made, as if to stamp them out like she stamped the sand. Jethro's commented distracted her enough and she playfully shot back, "Make sure to return her every now in then." It was always a reliefe when Kam babysat, giving her the chance to go off on her own for a little. For her sister's happyness it might be worth it but she would still hate to lose those chances.

“I have no doubt about that, little one,” replied Jethro with a wide grin, sagely nodding his head along as though the child were speaking something incredibly profound. Of course he was only humoring the bright lad. He knew the cub was feeling very proud of himself at that moment. Why spoil it with a dose of reality? Jethro rarely spent much time in that realm anyway.

Reality just wasn’t much fun.

Getting to his feet once the cub had sprang off his frame, the large male took a moment to shake himself off. His mane attracted dirt like a moth to flame- there was just no keeping it clean. Granted, rolling around on the sandy ground was hardly a good method to keep one from getting filthy, but even if he hadn’t have decided on the barrel roll the mess found have sooner or later clung to his large body. He was a black hole for grime.

“We’ll see about that,” he responded to Sewelo, making sure to make his tone a little on the challenging side even in spite of the grin on his face.

Looking once more at the mother, Jethro smiled thoughtfully, considering the request for an extended moment, “I make no promises,” he offered after a few seconds, his eyes bright with his teasing. He rather enjoyed the family he had more or less thrown himself into. The child was sweet and innocent, and his mother seemed a very nice creature as well. No wonder Kam spoke so fondly of them all. There was little doubt in his mind that the rest of the cubs were just as adorable as the one he had happily met. It made him wonder how much of a paw Kamaria had in raising them. Hypothetically, if she should have cubs of her own one day, would they come out sweet and the opposite of shy like Sewelo? Their detachment from reality he would be able to provide all on his own, naturally.

Not that she and he would have cubs together, his mind was quick to correct him, he just meant that his own set of cubs would dreamers like him.

Clearing his throat for no apparent reason, Jethro looked from one female to the other. He needed conversation to get his mind of awkward things. “So! You have an adorable cub there, ma’am. He then looked at Kamaria, smiling faintly towards her, “what shall we do today?”

While Kamaria couldn't help but wear a bold smile while watching Sewelo's antics, she understood the fear that Senatla must have felt. Lowering her ears to show her concern, Kamaria tried her best to reassure her sister. Her voice was kept low as to not interupt the game that was going on. Adult matters were best left with the adults, Kamaria felt. "Senatla, I can understand your fear, but if a rogue wishes to hurt someone, it will not matter if they have, or lack confidence."

The lioness did not mean to sound so blunt, but after her personal encounter, she knew that this was the case. There was no reason for Senatla to worry about letting her cub down. The mother did all she could for her cubs. "Plus, we are no longer in the roguelands. We are safe in the Bahari'mtoto. There are many hunters and guards that would surely encounter those rogues before we ever see them. I believe Sewelo is safe."

When Senatla teased Jethro, Kamaria was glad to see that her sister's worry left her for a moment. Her happiness at Senatla's smile almost had the lioness forgetting to blush. When Jethro responded, however, Kamaria was reminded of her embarassment and her cheeks glowed a bright pink. No promises, she repeated in her mind with an internal giggle. It was almost like a game of tug-of-war between both Jethro and Kamaria's sister and the attention had the lioness beaming brightly.

Jethro's question shook Kamaria from her thoughts and she glanced to Senatla before answering. "Will you forgive me if I break my promise to you today? I can care for Sewelo and the cubs very soon!" Kamaria grinned bravely, her tail almost curling between her legs. She felt selfish for asking, but would not venture with Jethro without Senatla's permission.
