Poking her nose out of one of her tunnels, Kivuli'kono couldn't help but feel glad she'd done so. The white ratel lumbered out of the dirt fully, sitting once out to admire the sunrise. It was a beautiful thing, really. Full of bright colors and a new day. She took a deep breath and started off, having felt she'd admired long enough.
She had hunting to do if she was going to keep herself fed. And she'd seen signs of a snake passing by not long ago. Snake was a wonderful treat. Lots of bone, but the meat procured from it was very tasty.

The sun was just beginning to make it's way over the far horizon as the young lioness rolled over in her sleep. The dry dust in which she lay upon stuck to her already tan fur. Her dreams were random, surrealistic, and would be soon forgotten upon waking. She rolled over once more as the fiery orb's bright rays penetrated the palm fronds under which she had taken shelter. Keefa gave a short huffing growl as the light fell upon her sleeping eyes. Her mind stirred from it's dream state, finding daylight and hunger to readily replace it. With yet another groan, she pulled to her feet and started the slow and troublesome hunt for food. She was certainly not the best of huntresses, and it readily showed. With nose to dirt and ears perked, Keefa trotted on. Her mind began to float off into the breeze and before she knew it, she was falling. Tail to nose her body tumbled down the hill picking up even more dust and leaves as it went. The young lion finally came to a halt on level ground. Belly to the air and forepaws held tightly to her chest she dared open one eye to look around, tail curling up and back down between her legs.

Kono was on guard as soon as she heard the rustling and a thump. She spun around, fur on end and teeth bared. Imagine her surprise when there was a rather strange looking lioness before her. The white ratel raised an eyebrow and lumbered over to where the lioness' head was. Covered in leave and dirt...she'd never seen a lion in such a sorry state. Well, except dead, but that didn't count right now.
"You know, it's generally a bad idea to sneak up on a ratel. Though you've certainly got a good camouflage going." She was sarcastic, but there was a hint of humor in her rough voice. "What did you do, get into a fight with a bush and lose?"

"I-I..." she stuttered slightly, and then gave in. She had still not bothered to right herself, but only narrowed her eyes in her upside down state at the ratel instead. "I think it may have been a rock."
She rolled over and placed a fore paw near her mouth. "Have to watch them you know, they bite." Her silver-blue eyes darted back and forth across the clearing before catching herself. It was a very bad habit to talk to strangers as such. What if the other creature had attacked?
"Um..." The young lioness looked around, suddenly embarrassed. "I um... I"m sorry for bothering you. Um..." It was then her stomach gave a sharp growl to rival any young male cubs roar. Her ear gave a quick twitch, feeling quite un-lady like.

Kono sighed and shook her head. "No no. If you were being a bother, I would have ignored you. Not often visitors come around, of any sort." She produced a noise that resembled something between a grunt and a chuckle. "Rocks are vicious little things. Catches even the most alert ratel off guard."
The rumble of the lioness' stomach reminded her of what she had been doing. "Sounds like you need food. I saw a snake track not long ago. The little vermin shouldn't be too far away. And it's likely on the trail of something."
Kono started to trot along the trail left by the snake. If a lion let it get to the point their stomach growled, then they weren't a very good hunter. And despite her better judgement, Kono wasn't the sort to let a young one of any sort go hungry.

The lioness relaxed a bit more. Obviously she wasn't going to be eaten, or at least harmed, by the smaller animal. Her head tilted as an ear twitched. Keefa wondered silently what a 'snack track' was. Perhaps it was an animal she had never seen before or some sort of creature which attracted grasshoppers. She had begun to find the soon-to-be-locusts quite tasty. Well, not that tasty, but at least easy to find.
With head ducked down parallel to her body and tail swishing high in the air behind her, Keefa kept pace behind the smaller furry one.

Kono followed the snake's trail easily enough, and soon came within sight of the adder. The snake itself was stalking a rather large hare that was oblivious to its presence. The ratel looked back at the lioness, as if saying to stay back. Kono knew is she got bitten, she'd be fine in a couple hours. She wasn't so sure of the lioness.
She stalked towards the snake and quickly bit right behind it's head, waiting patiently for it to stop struggling. The rabbit, meanwhile, had heard and bolted into its nearby den.

Keefa watched curiously as to what was going on. As instincts kicked in, she quickly took her chance at the hare. Zig zagging back and forth across the small area she perused it. Small dust clouds flew in her wake. The dust settled quickly enough by the time the snake stopped struggling, leaving the mighty huntress with her face square in the hole of a rabbits den. Tail tip dashing back and forth to a quick rythem, she was lost as to what to do now. She blinked into the darkness of the burrow, giving a sharp huff at the rabbit hidden somewhere inside.

Dropping the now dead snake from her mouth, Kono looked over to the lioness, blinking when she found her face-first in the rabbit's den. The ratel sighed and trotted over. "Ya know...you're a little big to go after it in there." She nudged the lioness. "If ya move, I can get it for ya." She sat and waited for the other to move. This was the strangest lioness Kivuli'kono had ever met.

Keefa gave another strong huff through her nose into the den and withdrew. With a flick of the ear, she realized the other was right. Even with her claws, she would not be able to reach the hare.
"Well, I tried?" She shrugged quizzically. A ring of darker clay ridden earth circled her face and muzzle.

Kono gave that strange chuckle again. "That you did, kiddo. Can't ding ya for that." She lumbered into the den, claws moving anything that got in her way. Seeing that the rabbit was a loner, with no family, the scuffle started. Several minutes later, the ratel lumbered out backwards, dragging the rabbit's body with her.
She dropped the rabbit in front of the lioness, something like a smile on her muzzle. "Here ya go. My name's Kivuli'kono, by the way. Kono is just fine, if that's too long, though."

She looked at the fallen hare with hungry eyes. Her stomach compelled her to lunge at it, imagining it's flesh ripped apart like the skin of a fruit, revealing the source of savory inside. Keefa did not, however, listen to her tummy, but instead sat on her haunches. Silvery eyes did their best for focus on the other, tongue sliding across her muzzle to wipe up any drool. "Kono," she said softly to work it across her mind, "I am Keefa."

"Nice to meet ya, Keefa. Now, stop being silly and eat." Kono chuckled and started to eat her snake, happy she'd managed to find one. Not often she got to actually catch one of these sort. And she had a little company. Despite the lioness'...naivety(?), she was a good kid. Learned quick too. Now...the question was, where was the kid's mother? She obviously wasn't full grown yet, and last Kono knew, lions were pretty protective of their young.

The young lioness quickly fell to the hare and spent little time to relieve the flesh of it's fur. Bones crunched between her teeth and before she knew it, she was done. Keefa sat back to give herself a proper cleaning. Dirt was one thing, and blood an entirely different matter.
"Thank you for... er... the help." she said, almost ashamed. She was a lion, an apex predator. She shouldn't be in such a mess as this.

Kono nodded. "It was no problem, Keefa. Though...I am curious about something." This...was going to be strange to ask. But the ratel felt it needed to be asked, or else she'd never know.
"You seem to be alone...Where are your parents? Or some sort of family..."
