Wow, how amazing!
Jay, your family is just so awesome!
Wow, Jay, you come from a family of elitist snobs!
...Jay, those great uncles of yours sure played fast and loose with the constitution, didn't they?
This is so completely random, Jay. Why are you posting this?
Sorry, Jay, but you don't >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything. Mifune does.
^ Is wrong, Jay, don't listen to them!
So, Jay, is this where your cheatyfacing skills come from?
Why do all the poll options have your name in them, Jay?

..! { Yes, the capitals were totally necessary.

Guess who this is? If you guessed that he was my great-great uncle, you are TOTALLY RIGHT. Yes, my great-great uncle (dad's dad's dad's brother) was a Governor General of Pakistan. Which I, being completely nuts about politics, think is awesome.

(Side note: ZOMG FAMILY RESEMBLANCE. That is my dad's nose, and partly my dad's smile, and partly partly my dad's eyes, in someone else's face. LOLWHUT.)

Also, this guy? My dad's mum's dad's brother (so also a great-great uncle), and a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court at the same time that my other great-great uncle was the GG. So basically, there was a time when my family basically ruled half of Pakistan.

Jay's family >>>>>>>>>>> everything. This r trufax.

..! { Well, I don't have anyone famous in Australia in my family, but then, we only came to Australia about 30 years ago. I'm from the first generation of our family that was born and raised here - I have two older cousins on my dad's side who were born here as well, and, of course, my own five siblings. } #!.

..! { Oooh, that'd be interesting! I think there's someone on dad's side of the family who does all that stuff - family trees and things. And with us, it's a huge job, because we are a very, very large family! } #!.

including cousins and other distant relatives, i think my tree has over 300 people in it already from what i've collected.

..! { Wow! That's really cool. I only have...13? first cousins on Dad's side of the family, but plenty of second, third, fourth and further removed cousins/aunts/uncles and so on. My paternal grandparents both came from large-ish families, as far as I recall, so I have hundreds (seriously!) of cousins and things I've never even met. } #!.

i want to try to make 2 trees... one that has all my relatives in it and one that has just me and my direct bloodline (my parents, their parents, their parents, and so on...). hopefully i'll be able to go back pretty far. i think i already have back to my great-great grandparents.

..! { Nice! My dad knows his family tree back a very long way, but I don't - I've never asked. I probably should, one of these days. } #!.

i can get a 14-day free subscription to ancestry.com, so i might put aside 2 weeks this summer for my "project" of building my family tree more. if i split it up like that, and give each project 2 weeks, it won't be bad at all. then everything would get done too!

..! { Good plan! Implies a level of organisation that I could never manage (my usual strategy: just do lots of stuff quickly enough that it's done on time), but I hope it works out for you. } #!.

thanks! if i can get all my stuff unpacked and my room cleaned by Sunday night I'll still be on track. My first project is going to be organizing the huge box of family photos into shoebox type things with index tabs to keep them neat.

i love repetitive activities (vacuuming, shredding papers, organizing photos...) cause it calms me down somehow. not that i'm hyper or anything...

also, with the family tree stuff, nobody else in my family seems to be very interested in it so i've taken on the responsibility.
