Elnara Aldrich
It was springtime now in Gaia, though summer was fast approaching. The days were long and warm, sunny but with just enough of a breeze that they weren't too hot.

Of late, the days had been made even longer by the unexplained absence of Elnara's eldest son, Celebor, who had disappeared over a week previous and hadn't been heard from since.

Well, that wasn't strictly true. Elnara knew that her fiance, Lore, knew where he was and what he was doing - but no matter what she said to him, he wouldn't tell her. Finally, though, she had given up on waiting and, staying home from work that day, she had asked Lore to come and sit with her while she sent Idhril to the Seconds world where Celebor had disappeared, in order to look for him and bring him back.

At the moment she was pacing in the sunroom, her youngest son, Jair, watching her from the edge of the fountain, Lore sitting on the couch, and every once in a while she would still try asking him, as she did now: "What is so important that he's been gone for so long and without saying a word to me? And why can't you tell me what it is?"

Meanwhile, just a little ways up the street, Celebor was indeed on his way home. He was tall now, at least seven feet tall, his father's height, and he was shirtless and bootless - and covered in paint. On his chest were two handprints, one green and one yellow, and on his back was an intricate painting of two water dragons in a gentle embrace.

He wasn't alone, either: with him were Idhril, his sister, and Niyana, his mate, the reason for his absence and the paint on his body. Niyana was walking between the two Aldrich Winterses. Idhril had her hand clasped tightly in her own, and Celebor had one arm around her shoulders.

"Elnara...." Lore sighed for who knew how many times that day, "Please sit down, he is fine. I assure you."

And quite frankly he was going to have a talk with Celebor about taking time, while he understood this took courage. Really, if he was going to have it kept a secret until he was ready disappearing for a week was not the way to do it. The old librarian (old in years but not in looks of course) sat back and tried to keep himself distracted by turning his attention to Jair.

After all he had never had a mer for a son before.

Niyana looked around the new world. She could not believe that she made it here. If it were not for her husband and her new little sister she did not know what she would have done. Mostly likely she would have ran straight back for the portal and back into the safety of the world she knew.

She could not believe all the new sites, smells, and sounds. She tried not to shake as she walked, "This place is so huge and...busy." she said softly.

Elnara of course was quite unable to sit still, as her nerves were wearing out. She had only been without her son for this long once - when he had visited Arda - but she hadn't felt any anxiety at all at that time because she had known exactly where he was and therefore hadn't needed to worry.

"It's no assurance if you won't tell me anything," she replied softly to Lore, rubbing at her eyes. She hadn't been sleeping well lately, and the red rims around her eyes showed it.

Jair meanwhile was, between glances at his mother, studying Lore intently. It was his first time meeting his father, and though the situation wasn't quite ideal, he liked him. Trying so hard to placate his mother ... except for one thing.

"Daddy, why won't you tell Mommy where Celebor is?" he questioned curiously, slapping his fins against the lip of the fountain. "Mommy says he's been gone for an awful long time and I want to meet him, I remember him taking care of my vase for a little bit, and he taught me a whole bunch of stuff ..."

Celebor smiled and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Then it's a good thing we live outside of the city," he told her with a chuckle as they left the city behind and followed the road into the woods. "Rather isolated ... though there are so many people living there that it sometimes doesn't feel as if we're alone."

He brushed his thumb across the back of her hand. "If you're really uncomfortable here," he murmured softly, "I can take you back ..."

"We're almost there!" Idhril piped up excitedly, pointing ahead at a large, four-storey inn that was off the side of the road, surrounded by lush green grass and large trees.

"Because I told Celebor, I would let him tell," Lore murmured.

In which to say, he really, really did wish Celebor had come home sooner, poor Elnara was certainly at her wits end. He held out an arm to her, at this rate she was going to exhaust herself.

"Come here," he softly told Elnara, "It won't help by wearing a hole in the floor, and you know if it was very serious or something awful I would give you some warning."

Niyana walked slightly in a haze just listen to Celebor. "Yes it is good..." she held his hand tightly and shook her head, "I told you I would do this with you and what kind of warrior would I be if I ran from a challenge? Besides I should not make my mother in law go out of her way to see me."

Hearing her little sister's call she looks up at the rather large inn. She wondered how many could and did live in there. She winced mentaly, there was no way she could ask Celebor to leave such a nice place for a shack....if even that. She had never had a home and well it would never be as grand as this. "It is huge..."

Elnara moved to sit next to Lore on the couch, but her eyes were agitated and she didn't seem to be able to focus on anything.

"I want him home, Lore," she said simply, wringing her hands together in her lap. "He's never disappeared like this before ... and I know he must be safe because you're obviously not worried about him, but ... I want him home."

Jair looked at Lore thoughtfully. "But it's kind of mean to make Mommy wait like this, she's so worried about him, it would be better if you would just say something. Maybe you could give her a clue or something, and she could guess!"

He was pleased with this idea, and he decided to pursue it.

"Yeah! Give Mommy a clue! Like ... is he here or is he in the Seconds world? Uncle Ryu took me there today and we found Aunt Feng and Naida but we didn't find Celebor anywhere ..."

Celebor put one arm around Niyana's shoulders and gave her a one-armed hug, then kissed her on the temple.

"You have no idea how proud I am of you," he murmured softly, his eyes shining. "Though I imagine that you do know how happy you make me."

As Idhril ran ahead of them and into the inn, he nodded thoughtfully at Niyana's words. "I've never really thought about it, I suppose," he admitted, "considering that I was born and raised there ... and having spent so much time in even bigger places ... but yes, it really is quite large ... but it has to be, considering how many people are in our family. Three generations, after all."

He smiled at her reassuringly. "But don't worry, most everyone will be at school right now, it might just be Mom and Jair there, and of course Idhril, and you know her already. You'll be fine. Just remember what you promised me ... be yourself. Don't try to change yourself just to impress the others. I'm the only one you need to impress, and you couldn't do it any better than by simply being yourself."

Meanwhile, Idhril had run ahead and was already bursting into the front door of the inn.

"Mama! Mama!" she shouted gleefully, not bothering to close the door behind her. "Papa! Mama! I found him! He's here! He's home! Come and see! And you'll never guess what, Mama! He grew!"

Lore opened his mouth, but Idhirl's sudden appearance threw him off track, more so when the news he had expected to hear was not the news he heard. Not that he wasn't happen for Celebor, for from it, it was amazing since he had not expected such a growth from their not so little boy (man). It was so strange thinking about it, since it had been a year since he had met Celebor.

"He did?" Lore asked with a chuckle, "And is he on his way?"

Hopefully with his mate, Lore did hope Celebor was bringing her, otherwise he would have no idea how he was going to explain this to Elnara.

Niyana allowed Celebor to warp his arm around her and Idhril to let go of her hand and run on. She sighed. And though she really didn't want to do this she knew they had too. "Yes I like to think I can make you happy...And I know I should not bow right?"

She sighed and walked along. "Well don't worry I don't think there will be a fourth generation for a wail." She laughed and sighed. "Here goes." she said as she moved up the porch of the inn. Maybe she would just be over looked and she could sneak out and back to the world she belonged.

Idhril nodded eagerly and clapped her hands together. "He's right behind me!" she told the others enthusiastically. "And he brought Niyana with him! Well she was kind of scared to come but she's coming anyways because she wants to meet everyone!"

"Slow down," Elnara blinked, holding one hand out to Idhril to calm her daughter. "Who's coming with him?"

"Niyana," Jair grinned from where he sat on the edge of the fountain. Then he stopped and looked at Idhril. "Who's Niyana?"

Idhril giggled. "You'll see!" she promised, bouncing from one foot to the other. "They're going to be here any second!"

Indeed, Celebor was already leading Niyana into the foyer of the inn.

"And here we are," he smiled as he closed the door behind them. "See? Nothing to worry about."

He nodded at the area around them. "Grandma's work room, stairs to upstairs, bar, and this way to the sunroom ... where I think I hear Idhril's voice coming from." He took Niyana's hand. "It's probably where Mom is, too."

Lore relaxed at this, so Celebor did bring her, good then they wouldn't have to put this off any longer than need be. He put an arm around Elnar'as shoulder pulling her closer to lean on him. She needed to relax first though...

"See... he's fine... uhm... a bit changed, but he is fine Elnara..." Lore murmured in her ear.

Niyana nods and looks around, "It is a very nice place. You were lucky to grow up here." she said softly then nods, "Well it does sound like she is that way."

She nods and listens to the other voices. "It sounds like there are three people with her." She knew she would hate herself for being so worried about this. And she feared that Celebor would think less of her. She was really more worried about the different world. Though there was a lot in it that was similar to the second you world it was still totally different.

"Well I guess it is now or never. Lets go, I am sure they are so worried about you." She smiled, "I hope they will be very glad."

Celebor squeezed Niyana's hand reassuringly and smiled warmly at her. "They'll be glad," he murmured softly, leading her into the sunroom.

The moment they entered the room, Elnara jumped to her feet, her eyes wide with a myriad of emotions. Shock, worry, anxiety, relief ... all of these and more flickered across her face as she ran forward and threw her arms around Celebor's neck.

"You're back!" she cried, hugging him tightly. "I was so worried about you!"

She released him and took a step back to examine him, her eyes misting over with pride and happiness.

"You've grown so handsome," she murmured, clasping her hands together and smiling. "So ... tall ..."

Celebor chuckled softly. "I'm sorry for worrying you, Mom ... I really did mean to come home earlier ... but time just sort of slipped away from us."

He blinked, then smiled again and reached for Niyana's hand once more. "And before we get any further ... Mom ... this is Niyana ... my mate."

Elnara blinked, then stared, looking from Celebor to Niyana and back.

"I know it's really sudden and everything," Celebor said hurriedly, "and I know I never mentioned her to you before ... but it just sort of ... happened ... but I know that she is the one I love, and that I belong now by her side ... forever."

In the silence that followed, Idhril giggled. "See? I told you it was exciting!" she squealed, clapping her hands together. "I got a new sister!

"Yeah!" Jair grinned. "New sister!"

He giggled. "I haven't even met all my first ones yet!"

Lore stood up, making his way over to the happy couple, which was exactly what they were. He smiled warmly at Niyana, knowing full well in advance who this person was.

"It is good to finally meet you Niyana," Lore spoke gently.

Niyana smiled and watched as Celebor's mother rush to him, giving him a hug then started looking him over. It must be nice to have someone to care for you so much. She was so glad that her prince could grow up in such a loving home.

When the attention turned to her and Celebor took her hand, she was instantly taken from her thought and seeing the shock in his mother's face she placed her hand to her chest and dropped to one knee. "It is a pleasure to meet you miss Elnara. And I am very sorry for the short notice....it just sort of happen but I really do love your son."

She heard the cry of acceptance from her little sister and Celebor's ward. She heard Lore move over and she turned to to him bowing to him as well, "It is a real pleasure sir."
