“Dad, dad, dad, dad!” Quincy shouted at the relaxing guardian from his stiff state wavering between ecstatic joy and needing to keep himself perfectly still. After many weeks of discouragement, a few days of persuading and an hour picking out the perfect one, Quincy was finally flying a kite. Red wings of a larger winged airplane soared on the small grassy hill and the Hiccup was in heaven. Tremors of excitement shook through his legs, tail and spine but he kept his body stalk straight lest the kite fell from the sky like his previous failures.

In truth it was Aaron who started flying the kite, and this was almost thirty minutes ago. Since he got the red object at a high enough altitude he handed the spool of string to Quincy and the pup had yet to move from his awe stricken stance. The guardian, who had since dozed off in a sun induced nap, looked over to his mishap ward and grinned broadly. “Very good Quin, right where you were a minute ago when you asked me to look.” The sarcasm went straight over the hiccup’s head.

There was a slight shift in the winds and Aaron was too late to catch it. He looked upwards at the moving kite and down towards Quincy’s terrified expression. Lightly he tapped the boys back, giving him a slight nudge down the hill and in the opposite direction of the kite’s travel path.“Well go on. Don’t let it fall.” and Quincy was off down the hill, towards the small woods on the other side of the park.

"I should get a puppy," Madeline murmurs with a distant smile across her quaint face, watching as a happy young couple walk their matching schnauzers.

Taig is dragged along, held by his hand that, in his opinion, would be blue from how hard his mum held it, if it weren't already blackened to begin with. He frowns at the dogs, thinking that it was probably the people looking happy that his mum likes and not the dogs. But he doesn't say anything; he just continues to scowl at the grassy fields, wishing he'd be let loose already, to run and jump and graze.. er.. play!

Maddy smiles and waves her fingers at the couple, who return her casual greeting as they cross one another on the path. Taig makes sure to growl at the dogs as they pass his feet, which earns him a swift tug on his arm of warning for better behaviour.

"Nyah nyah nyahhh," the toddler mocks under his breath, dragging his feet along the path, feeling, himself, like a dog paraded on a leash.

Once Quincy had built precious momentum he found that he could not stop. At first, this was no problem. The pounding on the grassy surface beneath his feet, the kite soaring strong above him and the pair of toddler and mum in front of him. Brown eyes widened as he attempted to stop himself from running into the hand in hand family unit yet, as was mention, momentum is a beautiful force of nature and cannot be stopped with simple exertion. Needless to say, Quincy went careening off course.

The boy gave a rather dog like yelp as he rolled tail over head onto the ground, just barely missing Taig and Maddy, tangling himself up in his kite string and skidding to a halt in a patch that was once daffodils. The kite followed shortly after, adding insult to injury by landing on the poor boy's head... Never, and he meant it, never will he fly a kite again. No matter the shape or color, he will refuse as it only brought failure.

"Oh, oh my goodness!"

Maddy let go of Taig's hand, and, for a blissful second, he tastes freedom. But, as luck would have it, his toddler sense of self importance is pushed out for concern for the poor tot who just landed astray. Still, he's left standing in place as his mum rushes ahead to tend to the boy and his kite.

She falls to her knees, ignoring her white attire, and peels back the kite gently. "Honey, are you okay?" she purrs with concern, brushing blonde hair from her eyes. "Don't move, we've gotta make sure you're okay first!

Taig appears behind his mum a second later, hanging over her shoulder and peering down at the boy. Oh God. A puppy? For serious? Did fate just like to hand his mother things, or was that everyone's luck but his? He narrows his eyes, squints, really, in an attempt to silently post claim over his mother. No new puppy in her life, no sir!

"OhgodQuin!" Came Aaron's worried shout from the hill as he jogged down and towards the heaped toddler. He should have been more attentive, careful and realized that luck does not change with the weather and Quincy should never pick up a kite again.

"No, no, no..." Quincy muttered, almost whimpered in reality, towards the new hands poking and prodding at his fallen form. He struggled with the string and managed to untangle it from his toes and fingers at the very least. His tail swished in poor attempts to ward Maddy off, not wanting to be touched but to stay under the kite in silent humiliation. The kite had since been moved away, leaving him exposed. Something he did not like. The toddler bolted upright and tried to take a few steps only to become further ensnared until he hobbled and fell on his bum. Well, at least he was upright.

Sienna eyes took in the surroundings. One thing was for sure, he was at the bottom of the hill, his coat was muddy, there was a daffodil stuck behind his ear and his now ruined kite decided to be like a trap from Indiana Jones and tie him up. So, Quincy did what every knowing toddler would do and simple glowered and pouted.

"Stupid kite."
He muttered.

Maddy looks up the hill toward the other approaching adult, and back to Quin, exasperated he'd even attempt to walk after a fall like that. Still, she doesn't question it, and instead stands up and brushes herself off, her knees now sporting unsightly brown patches on white capris.

Likewise, Taig decides that now's the best time to step in, for who knows what reason, and does so by picking up some of the string and by trying to find to where it leads. Well, this is sort of like helping, right? And keeping his hands busy keeps them from being in his mum's pincer grip. That, and maybe if he looks like he's trying to be a good boy, he'll get some cookies!

"Stupid kite," Taig parrots in agreement, though he's not even seen one in his life, nevermind flown one. "Stay still," he instructs gruffly, shaking the string up and down violently as it stops coming loose so easily.

Upon hearing the command Quincy froze, stock still and rigid. He didn't want to be but someone asked for him to be still and so he would. A large pout formed on Quincy's features, sharp and very puppy like canines bit into his cheeks as he squirmed slightly in his seat. He hated being all wrapped up and he hated falling and now he hated kites. Not to mention he was hungry, The pup released a small whimper, subconsciously and beyond his control. The other boy wasn't helping a lot either.

Aaron had finally sauntered down the hill and stood behind Quincy, grabbing some of the kite string and pulling it off the boy. He couldn't help but chuckle at the perdicament. "There we are Quincy, never able to fly a kite or keep the ground below your feet."

A quick glance up and a nod when Aaron acknowledged Maddy with a grin. "Hey, I'm sorry about this. He has been having some trouble in regards to standing upright." Aaron explained as he tossed some of the string to the side. "I'm Aaron and this is Quincy... You okay there, bud?"

Quincy peered up at Aaron and gave a small pout. "Yeah..." He said quietly and then observed his toes until he looked back at Taig. "Who are you?" He asked as the adults above them had their adult conversation.

Taig flat out ignores the whimpering until he ungracefully shakes the kite string free from its tangled mess, releasing Quincy from its prison. He doesn't intend it to be so rude, but he doesn't exactly have the grace of someone all too considerate about others, either.

Maddy looks between her son and Aaron with a smile, and stands up straighter, more at ease to see a parent to the rescue. "Maddy," she responds, offering a hand to Aaron. "And that'd be Taig. Nice to meet you! Right, Taig?"

On cue, Taig makes a scrunched up face at the adults before returning his attention to the one his size. " 'M Taig," he answers Quincy gruffly, brushing a coil of string from around his wrist. "You got funny teeth," he observes in a more neutral tone, concealing his curiosity weakly.

Aaron scrunched his nose at the other boy. Another animal child... He gave a placating smile and sheepishly nodded at Maddy. "It is a pleasure. Utmost pleasure, really... Again, I'm sorry for my boy. He's a bit" Aaron bit his lip and looked down regarding his son. "Positionally Challenged?"

Quincy squirmed out of the remaining string and scrambled away from the wrecked kite. This is the second. Looking awfully dejected and slightly embarrassed the toddler regarded the other boy. "Taig?" A sniff and a slight flutter in his tail. "That's a ... fun name."

Quincy was, as per usual, completely oblivious to Taig's curious scrutiny. A question was fine, a blatant curious statement was alright yet, Quincy couldn't help but feel vulnerable in his state. He had fallen, created a crater in the flowers by the path, broken his second kite and gotten tangled up in constricting string. Needless to say, Quin was not a happy puppy. If anything he felt attacked by Taig's statement and automatically retaliated. "Well, you have funny hands." His tail curled closer to him. "So I think we're even."

Maddy gives a genuine laugh at the description provided. "Sounds about right! Poor boy, I think his kite's broken!" She frowns a little, lifting a piece of what used to be the spine of Quincy's kite.

Holding out his hands and examining them, giving them thought as if seeing them for the first time. "Guess you're right," Taig mumbles, gaining, strangely, a level of respect for Quincy's deduction. He's honest, he'll give him that!

"Sure is fun," he growls with a smirk on his face, curling his hands in the other's direction as if showing claws he doesn't have. "Taig, like tiger! RWAR!"

Aaron nodded, looking at the kite in question. "That'd be his second. He doesn't have much luck with kites. I'm glad that he's not more torn up about it." He gave a passing glance at the boys before he turned and looked back up the hill. "It was a pretty fantastic, if not artistic, crash and burn. I give him props."

"Taig like a tiger?" Quincy skewed his view, squinting and tilting his head from side to side in order to view the other boy. He certainly did not look like a tiger, but he wasn't about to rain on the other boy's parade. That would be mean and disrespectful, despite what the boy said about his 'funny teeth'. They were sharp, he pondered to himself and wondered what actually was funny. Aaron did not have pointy teeth or funny hands. He was squishy. Like Maddy.

Suddenly the boy hopped to his feet, now on level with the other toddler. An idea that took him away from the broken kite and the deep philosophical epiphany the boy managed to have and care less about no more than a few seconds ago. His tail was wagging at full force. "Hey! When I was falling reaaally fast, I saw this really good tree for climbing! Want to come with me? Huh? It'd be fun!"

"Second?" Maddy echoes, both looking and sounding baffled. She quickly recovers, though, at Aaron's quip, and gives a smile down on Quincy. "Certainly, he's at least entertaining with his downfalls as I bet he is when he's not.. falling down!"

Taig tilts his head, not nearly as introspective as Quincy, nor as patient, so when the other boy doesn't get his joke, his lower lip juts out and his brow pushes together. This only lasts a second, though, for Quincy's suggestion of tree climbing wipes the slate clean.

"Yes! Climb trees! Yes!" He bolts forward, not knowing or caring if it's the right direction, as he's not one to think these things through anyway, but spins around in a second in remembering, grudgingly, to ask permission first. "Mama, cannai go climb trees wif Quincy?"

Maddy looks to Aaron and then to her son, giving him a nod while brushing a frayed piece of string off his shirt. "I don't see that that's a problem." Taig scowls at his mother's pampering, and pulls away.

"Don't go too far!" she adds loudly.

"Yes, he completely trashed his first. At a kite festival I think. He was thoroughly upset." Aaron considered his son and chewed his lower lip in contemplation. "I think he is fascinated with the idea of flight..."

"Wis Way!" Quincy shouted in excitement and tugged on the other boy's hand as he loped towards the nearby willow tree. Certainly not climbing material but he was convinced it would be fun. He plowed through the handing tendrils of the leaves and looked quickly around for a low hanging brand. "This one is reaaally tall! If we can get up high we can see my house. I knoit."

The tree was indeed large with a thick trunk planting itself into the ground, long reaching branches in every which angle. The tendrils had already mostly bloomed creating a sort of curtain, a secret place for the tree to live. Quincy eyed all of the branches before seeing one moderately low. "There!" He shouted, jutting a finger out to the branch. "And it has viney thingies."

Quincy ran over and still found himself too short. A couple of jump, grabs and misses lead him glaring at the branch and willing himself taller. He had already failed at the kite so there was no way in the world that he was going to roll over for this task. "Hmmm... Any ideas, Taig?"
