She had always been a shy creature by nature, gentle, kind, often hidden in the shadow of her sisters, never understanding why she had been born so different from them. There was a time when leaving the den meant she was following after her sisters, begging to be included in their games, feeling left out because they were triplets, and she was not, never realizing that it must have been difficult for them as well.
The child had come to spend much time with her grandfather, cherishing the company of the kind old lion. Though he often spoke the same words as her father, that she was beautiful as she was, it had made more sense in his voice as often happens with children, or perhaps it was that he shared the white of her pelt.
As she had grown, she had come to understand, at last seeing the truth in their words, treasuring the white pelt of grandfather, the mane and golden markings of father, pale eyes of her mothers, traits that she shared. The animosity between siblings had faded, though perhaps no siblings ever lost it completely.
Though the shyness had never left, the self-conscious child had grown into a beautiful young lioness, touched by new pride and confidence, the light that had at last been found. A smile on her maw, hide warmed by the sun, she sat on the grassy hill, tail flicking lightly at her paws, pale eyes watching the matching sky, quietly enjoying the beauty of the day.

Kweli hadn't been shy, far from it with parents like his. He was bursting with confidence but not in a way that seemed over the top or that he was ego was too big for him. No he was a kind and gentle thing. His father was proper being brought up in a pride very different to the one they lived in now meant that well, Kweli was bought up with stories of prides that seemed strange to others.
His mother, she was brought up by a loving father after seeing her mother slaughtered by her aunt. Something that might mentally scare a cub but his mother was the happiest lioness around. She was more then happy to trot about being herself and acting like a small young cub and so Kweli was a mix of the two.
He was like his mother in the respect that he loved the mess about though he did more so when hunting, turning it into a game and giving everyone a running commentary as he did so. He was like his father in the way that he respected females and understood that they were equal but different. He liked that idea and wished much to find a good friend. His sisters were okay but they were his sisters and of course sisters can get too much sometimes!
Today he had decided to take a walk. He was rather large for his size, something he got from his father. He hadn't planned anything for the day other then to just enjoy the air and the beauty of his land. Things were changing though he didn't take much notice of it. Politics weren't his style, lazing about enjoying the beauty of the lands was much more his style. He hadn't expected to come across anyone, especially not a female who at first glance he thought was his mother. He then noticed the distinct differences and was glad he hadn't ran over to her like his instinct had told him to.

She had not noticed him at first, eyes closed in the warmth of the sun. An ear twitched at the rustling of grass, at first she had thought it was perhaps a hare, but hares did not move with suck large pawsteps.
Eyes opened, her gaze fell on the young lion, taking in the tan hide, the white mane. Startled, one dark paw raised as if to step backward, uncertain of his intentions. Ears flicked, laying back before turning upright again, that shy nature that had never left her.
"Hello."
She had tried to speak with confidence, proud of who she was. But she did not know him, did not know how he would react, was he kind, or was he grouchy? Her head tilted in curiosity, wondering, even if from a distance, he didn't seem mean.

He looked at her again just to make sure it wasn't his mother and he couldn't help but wonder whether she was somehow relatedd to him. There were many things the same but the marking on the side, no that wasn't recognisable.
"Hello!" He spoke softly but in a confident way. He was always trying to find a way to come across as a gentleman though whether that worked or not he didn't know. No one ever told him and so he just hoped.
"I am Kweli." He thought he might as well introduce himself. His turquoise eyes looking the female over again, he still couldn't get over just how much like his family she looked. Strange.

"I'm, Meiyo."
She watched him a bit nervously, pale eyes blinking once as they focused on blue. Why was he looking at her like that? She didn't understand his expression, didn't know his thoughts. She hadn't done anything wrong had she? She didn't think she had, but what if she had?
"I'm...not bothering you here am I?"
Her paws shuffled in the grass, tail twitching. Surely she wasn't, after all he hadn't seen him when she settled on this hill. But maybe she just hadn't seen him, come to think of it she had never seen him before at all. Not especially surprising for a shy girl in such a large pride, but perhaps, now was the time to make a friend.

Kweli smiled softly at her name, it was a pretty name however he was a little confused by her question.
"Oh no! Your not bothering me at all. I am sorry, you just look a lot like my mothers family thats all." Maybe she would be able to tell him? He knew all the names of his aunts and uncles, his mother had told him several times.
Oh how stupid he had been staring at a stranger like that! So much for being nice and polite.

"Oh, good, I--"
She had spoken with a sigh of relief, glad that she had done nothing wrong, a smile on her maw. He did seem nice, she liked that, it was good to meet a friend, and perhaps she had at last begun to understand why Hoshiko had always been so outgoing, so 'pushy', the she enjoyed the boost of confidence.
But she had paused in her words, head titled at his words, ears twitching with her thoughts.
"I do?"
That seemed unusual, though if she thought about it, maybe it didn't. The white pelt seemed a rarity in her own family, but she was hardly the only lion with a white pelt in the pridelands.

Kweli nodded.
"Yeah my mother is white with peach markings, her father was white with brown splodges or something. I haven't met him though he does live around here." He smiled softly noticing the female seemed a little nervous but ever so sweet.
"My uncle is white and black too with similar leg markings to you, so yeah you look lots like him. Sorry if I freaked you out or anything." He wasn't the best at being social but then again he was trying to practice.

"Really? It's not so common in my family. But that's okay, because I like who I am."
She smiled again, as warmly as she could, trying to hold by her own shyness. He seemed as nervous as she was, though maybe he would have disagreed. Either way, it didn't bother her, the light of curiosity in her eyes.
"Oh no, you didn't. It's nice to meet you."
The words were genuine, ears twitching upright with her smile. She wondered why she had never seen him before, but then she had spent more time following her sisters than trying to make her own friends.

Kweli smiled, it was nice to meet someone who seemed so sure in themselves.
"I am glad, I can be a little clumsy sometimes with what I do and say."
He looked a little sheepish and then smiled a little, trying to work the lioness out in front of him. She seemed so sweet and shy but yet what she had said seemed so sure of herself.
"Have you lived here all your life? Mothers family came here as rogues, as did father so I wonder sometimes how many others were rogues and stuff." He thought it was a fair comment as he knew from his mother that the prides natural colours were golden and there were so many strange coloured lions here.

Sure of herself may not have been the right term, or at least she would have thought so had she known his thoughts. Often uncertain, ever the shy young lioness, it was unlikely she would ever find the same confidence as her oldest sister. She had however come to accept and find pride in who she was. Long past were the nights she lay awake, wondering why she looked so different from her sisters, waking early each morning for the chance to ask her parents, wondering why she always felt so left out.
"I think you speak fine."
The smile had not left her maw, her expression soft and kind, as if she understood. A shy creature herself, she could not help but sympathize with the nervousness of another, perhaps that was what had made it so easy for her to speak with him.
"I have, my parents too. I guess the pridelands is home to lots of lions."
It may have seemed an odd question, or rather it was not one she would have thought to ask. As her father would have said, there was honor in most creatures, regardless of their blood or heritage.

"Really? Thanks." He smiled a little sheepishly. He always worried about his speech when meeting new creatures especially female ones. They just weren't normal were they!
He nodded at her reply to him. He loved to hear family histories though but if she didn't wish to go into it, well he wasn't about to push it. He was happy to hear anything from anyone really. After all he really wasn't as good at this as he would like to be.
"What kind of things do you do around here?" He thought he would ask, he never did much. He wasn't easily bored and could happily lay around for ages not worrying about anything and just enjoying the rest.

It wasn't that she minded talk of family history, any conversation would have been welcome, it simply was not a subject she would have thought of. Perhaps it was that she had been taught to think in the present, to focus on what she had at the moment rather than what had once been, not to say that history was forgotten. Or perhaps it was simply that her father preferred not to speak of his own past, though her grandfather certainly did, always happy to tell of his mother and remind children and grandchildren that she (and others who had fallen) watched over them from the stars.
"I enjoy watching the clouds, and the stars at night. Sometimes I do things with my sisters, but usually Hoshiko decides what we do."
She smiled sheepishly, she probably wasn't very exciting. Or at least she couldn't think of anything more exciting to say at the moment.

The clouds and stars were indeed beautiful. He loved to lay watching them, it always made him smile though he thought that might make him sound rather well weird so he didn't tell of his own love for it.
"That sounds lovely and calming." He then heard a name and of course he didn't know all that many lions here, the pride after all was huge!
"Who is Hoshiko?" Maybe it was a sibling of hers?

"It is, I sometimes watch the stars with my grandfather."
She smiled at that thought, so many nights she had spent under the stars with her grandfather, captivated by the twinkling lights and the stories he told. It was a time she had always cherished, each moment spent with the old lion who seemed to know so much, or at least made more sense than her father.
"Oh, Hoshiko is my oldest sister, she's a bit bossy, but she means well."
The smile had turned sheepish, tail giving a nervous flick. That was silly of her, she should have realized he would not know the name of her sister. Well, she supposed no harm done, he didn't seem to be bothered by it at least.
