Black paws treaded softly across the green grass that surrounded the large body of water she had grown up in. Sorrow was clear and evident in her emerald green eyes as she looked at what used to be a thriving, exciting pride bustling with life. Now it was as still as the surface of the water which bore no life with in it's waters. A frown etched itself upon her maw as she slowly edged forward towards the water's edge.

Careful not to let her paws touch and disturb the perfect picture she hoped to see she leaned forward peering at her reflection. It hadn't been very long since the last time she observed her image in the water but none was as clear as the one before her. Young Kagami wasn't quite sure why but she mused that it was because the area harbored so many memories and unspoken feelings.

Her frown curled up into a sad almost disappointed smile as the voluntary mute shook her head lifting a paw and slamming it down harshly on the once still surface. A cascade of ripples spread out from where her now damp paw had been and more followed as she pulled her paw away shaking it before setting it back down upon the grass. With another shake of her head she turned flicking her tail and began to trot off.

Unfortunately an all to familiar voice stopped her dead in her tracks.

"Kagami."

That one simple word, her name, froze the purple female in her tracks. The sound of his voice sent fear, as well as a mixture of other feelings, down her spine. A smirk slid across his lips as the blue-gray male noted that she didn't bolt off, she was paralyzed. The sadistic lion moves smoothly over the grass like water over a riverbed.

"Now Kagami, you don't look so happy to see me."

He cooed as he came from behind her shifting so that their eyes met for a fluttering second before her emerald eyes darted away. He feign to be hurt by her not do friendly actions towards when he had expected it all. He wasn't surprised, not even in the slightest, of her cold actions towards him they weren't on good terms, they hadn't been for since they were juves.

Not since he pretty much broke her apart. Emotionally and mentally.

"Tell me Kagami what brought you back?"

His deep voice rumbled as he walked to her side pressing up against her watching with amusement as she flinched away.

"A little touch scared the pretty kitty away?"

He asked amusement lining his voice as he smirked smugly.

It took everything in the female's power not to start ripping him a new one. She clenched her teeth together hard to fight her instincts, to keep her from breaking her promise to...herself. Unfortunately her tactics didn't work the way she planned and she found herself letting out a deep, dark, angry growl. It surprised not only herself but the a** of a male that was taunting her, toying with her emotions the same way he had done when they were but children.

The only difference was that this time she wasn't going to bow down and give into whatever he wanted. It worked so wonderfully last time for her. Her entire self-esteem had been completely shattered, scattered into a million little pieces with almost no hope for a recovery, no hope of sticking the pieces back together. Had it not been for her brother young Kagami would have never survived even if those feelings she harbored that had damned her did.

Eyes narrowing she moved toward him daring him to touch her, to try. Then before he could even have the chance to she slid right past him not even coming in contact. Not giving him the chance nor satisfaction of smirk she whacked him on the nose with her tail. Take that jerk. She mused with her devil-like smile.

Her actions took the male off guard. He thought the female was to much of a chicken, a weakling to do anything but pass him by so when his nose was throughly whacked he was startled falling back on to his butt in surprise. A growl rumbled in this throat as he moved quickly to his paws. He turned around the his fur standing on end.

"Kagami. That wasn't a smart thing to do." He scolded her taking a single step forward paws digging into the soft ground. His tail flicked back and forth dangerously, had anyone been behind him and too close they would have been knocked out by now. "Don't walk away from me Kagami. Turn around and look at me!" He shouted ordering her to listen to him, something he knew she was refusing to do by any means which only made him angrier.

Had it been any female but her he would have let it pass, taken it as playful fighting, which it could have been with Kagami, and he would have played along, kept his cool but with the purple femme fatal all restraints were off. He was no longer playing nice if she wouldn't. "Kagami!" His voice echoed loudly off the trees that enclosed the area.

The purple female kept walking, ignoring his pitiful threats and was content to just leave him behind. But his last word, her name, was filled with so much anger and...so much pain. Despite her better judgment she glanced black and what she saw made her heart sink. He was on the ground paws over his head fighting back the urge to cry. It was so different from the Suijin that she was used to. The Suijin that she knew. It made her heartbreak.

Swallowing she turned and slowly padded toward him lightly nudging his frame with her nose. Even though he had broken down before her, the way she had once done, she couldn't find the words to speak just as he couldn't then. Stepping back her emerald green eyes studied him for a moment before she shook her head.

The feelings were still there, the love she once carried for him had never vanished, it had always been there hidden away deeply. They had resurfaced from the depths of his heart the minute she heard his pained cry, the minute she had looked back. Mentally she cursed herself and willed herself to run away, the bad outweighed the good didn't it? He had done so much to hurt her she couldn't possibly think of giving him a chance to redeem himself, he had so many chance before. Every chance he passed up so why now? Why was her heart yearning so much to comfort him.

Tears began to rim the eyes of the female as she stepped back once more. Run, she told herself. Run, don't give in. Run. Run far far away.

If only she had listened.

At the soft nudge of his childhood crush turned enemy the dual colored male glanced up to see he move away, one step at a time. Water leaked from his eyes and down into his mane in the form of tears. Although Suijin had always been a good actor, it allowed him to do the stunts he performed daily, his tears, his pain and his torment were real. So very very real. He had always been a sadist, even as a young cub, a prince of his now forgotten pride, and while he enjoyed seeing others in pain he could never forget the day he had completely broken the person that meant most to him.

That day was always clear in his mind, it was his guidelines, the reason for everything he did now. Why he sometimes stalked her, following her silently just to observe her, watch as other males turned their heads just to look at her beauty, watch as his jealousy grew with every male she 'spoke' with. It was the reason they had a constant game of who can get the other more, the reason he flirted a bit too hard, played too rough, with the females that he met on the road. It was all a vain attempt to make her jealous. Ever since the day he had coldly rejected her when they were but children he had remained in the past while she was moving on, getting on with her life. Repairing herself without a ounce of help from him.

It was all his fault and he was well aware of the painful fact. Had he realized on that fateful day that she was serious, that she meant every single word she uttered to him things would have been different, but now...now it was too late. Or was it? She was still there concerned about him.

Did that mean she still loved him? That she at least cared for him? Gods he hoped so. "Kagami...Kagami..." He whispered his voice sweet.

What was she doing? Why was she still here before him? Why was she waiting? No good had ever come from her waiting for him. The only thing that ever came was pain, pain and disappointment yet...Yet she couldn't pull away, she couldn't convince herself that it wasn't worth because in all reality. It was completely and totally worth it. It always had been.

She watched in silence as he got back on his paws and sauntered over stumbling in the process. Blinking the tears that had gathered finally fell down her cheeks past the triangles beneath her eyes. Finally he stumbled again crashing to the grass. Hard. Instinctively she rushed over nudging him softly with her nose once more.

Why was she doing this? Kagami wasn't sure all she knew was that she couldn't help it. Her heart was telling her to while her mind was resisting trying to get her to pull away. But she couldn't. She still loved him much too much for her own good. She knew that it was too difficult to get rid of feelings that ran as deep as hers did.

A grateful smile graced his lips when she nudged him again. All hope was not lost, Kagami still cared. Struggling he finally got back on his feet and pressed his body against hers. Pressing his nose against her fur he inhaled deeply taking in that watery-lilac scent she carried. It smelt like heaven to the male who had never been this close, at least now with her complying. "Kagami...you smell so wonderful." He whispered into her purple eyes. A chuckle slipped from when he felt her tense beside him. "I won't hurt you Kagami. I promise."

Slowly very slow he felt her muscles relax but he didn't feel her lean against him like he wanted her to. It was to be expected, they hadn't been on good terms for ages. Perhaps now was their chance. Their chance to start over and make amends. To bad he'd never know that it was too late it was much to late for them now.

"Kagami, can I tell you a secret?" He whispered purring into her neck where he had settled his head against. He took her lack of an answer, verbal or physical as a yes. "I love you." His voice rumbled through his throat and into her making her pull away just a bit. "I love you, a lot. I always have." He admitted not making a move to close the distance that had come between them. Instead he hung his head not looking up to even see her reaction.

"Even when I said I didn't, when we were juves, when I told you I hated you...It was a lie." He told her quickly not giving her the chance to respond. "When I told you that you were ugly, a pain to look out, annoying and down right pitiful. I was a lie. I was afraid." He finished daring to glance up. Kagami looked distant, she wasn't even looking at him, her green eyes were in a daze staring at the calm water. "Kagami?"

The warmth of his body pressed against her brought comfort and at the same time made her uncomfortable. They had never been this close together before, not even when they were children, he had never allowed her to get close to him. After he hurt her it was the opposite, she refused to let him get near her. Whether it was out fear or anger she wasn't sure. His breath in her ear made her tense up and she listened partially as he tried to get her to relax.

Slowly, at a snail's pace, she relaxed herself but still wasn't focusing her attention on him. If she did she'd given in completely and she couldn't have that. His next string of words made her breath catch in her throat and her body froze again. He loves me? He's lying...he's always lying. Kagami muttered to herself in her mind as she took her gaze away from him completely and focused it on the shimmering still lake. Her mind still focused on him eating up every single word he spoke.

His words forced her to remember that painful day, the day she was constantly, desperately trying to forget. So far she had been successful, until today. Although anger boiled up inside of her she remained ridged, like a stone, she refused to show him the emotion she knew he was waiting for.

It wasn't until he called her name that she slowly turned it towards him. "I'm sorry." She whispered her voice hoarse yet as sweet as honey to a bear. Those were the first words she had uttered in a long time and she meant them. Sorrow evident in her eyes. Having spoken all she needed she turned away and began to walk away and a relaxed pace. She was waiting for him to shout after her.

Her simple words sent a shock through his spine. He was completely stunned. I'm sorry. Those words echoed in his mind, repeating over and over and over again. Suijin never though rejection would hurt this much, especially when he was sure she still loved him. Was he wrong? He had never been wrong before but...there was always a first time for everything.

Nothing registered in his mind until she started to walk away at a relaxed pace, giving him time to say one last word before she left. Probably for good. "Why?" Was the only word he could think of and once he thought more about it, it was the only word he needed.

The normal clever male couldn't understand why she rejected him, nor could he understand why she had broken the promise she made to herself. She promised never to talk until she found her soul mate, the male that completed her, made her feel loved and the one she loved back. So why? Clearly he wasn't that male or she wouldn't be walking away. Was he the exception?

Kagami knew she had broken her promise to herself but it didn't matter. Some situations called for words and couldn't be dealt with otherwise. This was one of those situations. "It's too late Suijin-kun. I've moved on." She whispered one last time glancing back at him a tear running down her cheek.

Could he tell how difficult it was for her? Maybe. She couldn't dwell on it any longer. With one last look she shook her head looked away and took off running hard and fast trying to put as much distance between them as possible. Neither could go through anymore pain in one sitting. Neither.

It had taken a lot out of the male to tell her those fated three words and even more for her to turn them away, to tell him that it was too late, nothing would come from them being together. Nothing good, they were already too different and there had been too much time between them.

It was too late, it would always be too late for the two of them.

Suijin watched her run away not even bothering to chase after her. What would be the point? He had already lost. It's too late...I've moved on..." Her voice, her angel-like voice echoed in his mind and he was just itching, dying to capture it forever in a bottle, a container, something so he could listen to it over and over. If only it weren't those words.

When she was long gone, he could no longer see even the outline of her form he moved. Suddenly he was filled with anger. She had moved on, past him but to who? Who did she move on to? The thought made his blood boil, he loved her too much to let her go.

A growl erupted from his throat and he lifted his head to the sky rain beginning to trickle down. "This isn't over Kagami. Our game is back on and this time you'll be the one to suffer not me. I'll do everything you want to do before you ever get the chance to. That's a promise I won't break like you broke yours."
