So yeah...I've decided that I really really hate how they have set up the Gaian economy. They stress so much that they are avoiding inflation by making it very difficult to earn gold. Yet they introduce things like Gaian Cash. Only people willing to spend real money are able to buy any of the rarer items in Gaia. For example...I am trying to get an ancient katana or whatever...it however costs something like 450,000 gold. It would take me like a year of constant activity to earn that money unless I am willing to spend real money...which I am not. All they have done is created the RL economy within Gaia Online. There are a few really rich people, a lot of people with decent stuff, and the majority of the people have crap.

My mule has a katana.
Just waiting to sell it~
Yeah, the marketplace is an absolute ruin, but the setup was fine until they exceeded about 5000 players, then things started to fall apart.

I'd honestly feel bad selling to anyone else, it's not worth the price it's become.

it is pretty ridiculous. It makes sense from a business standpoint, I mean they of course would be all about ways for people to give them money. Im kind of disgusted with myself. When I first joined, I thought it was no big deal to blow 2 bucks on a monthly item. but the other day I was going though my paypal email folder and noticed that there were a lot of purchases from Gaia....about 70 dollars worth.
it wouldn't be so bad, finding new creative things to sell is cool, but as I cannot trade items back to real money, it seems in hindsight a poor investment. I am buying something that cannot be resold, and therefore has absolutely no market value whatsoever. if I had spent my 70 odd dollars on a video game instead, I would own something with some value.

I'd prolly have a quarter of how much I have now if my brother hadn't given me nearly all his gold. He spends a lot of time on the forums and the games so he makes loads of gold but he doesn't want it. Plus, everyone in rally asks to have pictures taken with him for some reason. He has some on his profile.

Yeah. I'm glad I got the katana when it was actually selling for around 34k.
The thing that's eating me alive is my quest for seal/penguin slippers. I wonder if I'll ever get those...
I make most of my gold just buying and selling letters/event items. I'm decent at playing the market, but now with all the cash shop items, it's gotten more difficult to keep up. Each month I get 2-3 MC letters for myself and a few more for investment (the number depending on how successful I predict the MC's will be). When they appreciate enough or there's a spike in the MP, I sell. The thing that makes it hard is that now I not only have to make sure I have enough gold to buy the MC's every month, but I also have to worry about the cash shop's rotations. I'm one of those people that tries to get every "limited time only" item regardless of whether I particularly like it or not. My reason being that if I don't get them when they come out, they'll just keep getting more expensive...and then if I ever change my mind and want them they'll be too costly to get. With the cash shop rotating items out and developing evolving items with generations, keeping up became pretty much impossible since I'm not willing to spend RL money.

I'm not willing to spend RL money, and I'm not willing to waste enough time to effectively "play the market".

Krego-sama I'm not willing to spend RL money, and I'm not willing to waste enough time to effectively "play the market". It takes me all of two minutes to check prices of letters and post some of the ones that spiked for sale. It takes only a second to buy a couple. I really don't spend much time on gaia unless there's an event going on...which is why I'm suddenly posting a lot, lolz. xp

If I'm patient enough and wait until Christmas, then I should be able to sell quite a few things for more gold when everyone wants a red/white theme. Hopefully.
I wonder how much Gaia make off advertising?
