His father had spoken of a sister.. He had said that the two were very close, much like Marcellin with his own siblings. His entire family was odd.. His mother with her ethreal glow and her bittersweet eyes. His father being the clever, yet romantic Soquili.. Yet, how he had won over mother, Marc didnt know..From the sound of it, Naina had had a hard life, and he and his siblings had been a miracle to her.
The little foal was usually deep into thought and always had an intelligent conversation...even if it was with himself. He was his own best friend, which was why he asked no one on these little excursions of his.
His little blue ear flicked, as he walked through the darkened forest..Had he been any otherfoal..the darkness might have scared him.

A beat of her wings and Mittrei lifted off from the ground. A pause and she drifted back down. Another beat and she was up and she drifted down once again. She smiled to herself. This night had potential. She could feel it in the way the air seemed to pluck at her wings and draw her upwards. She beat her wings again and her hooves left the ground once more. This time she kept beating until she was a swallow-tailed shadow against the stars. Being a flutter and not one of the stronger-winged species she could barely reach higher than what she needed to clear the treetops but that was enough.
She cruised at that height while her strangely colored eyes took in information from the scenery below. Her nightvision was akin to what most soquili could see in the day but the leaves didn't leave her much room for seeing what was below. She curved almost lazily past a high sycamore and caught a glimpse of movement in the forest beneath her. Her first impression was that it was another flutter but a second look made her doubt her first impression.
She dipped a little lower and thought she could make out what looked like the markings of wings, not actual wings, on a silvery foal's back. This is interesting... After a moment's consideration she decided that not only was it interesting but it was interesting enough to merit a second look. Mittrei fanned her wings out wide and made her descent, swooping in for a landing in a clearing that the foal's path would soon take him to.

The golden hue of the mare stopped him,and he looked at her with his own Amethyst eyes. He had inherited the beautiful orbs from his mother..She in herself was so pretty...Marcellin cherished her.
Cocking his head, he watched the mare. Why, he could see she had wings..Afterall, she was descending to the earth ahead of him..He could onlysee the tips of her wings now.
Walking deeper into the forest, he narrowed his little yellow eyebrows and looked around for the moth-y mare.
"Hello?" He called.
"I wont hurt you!" Well that was great...What if they wanted to hurt him? He paused. Maybe it would be okay.

"Of course you won't hurt me," chided Mittrei with a smirk. "You're a cute little foal. What business would you have in hurting anyone?" She still couldn't quite make out the pattern on the foal's back while he was hidden amidst the trees. She squinted and tilted her head but there was nothing to be done about it but wait until he came more into view. She thought that the wing patterns on his back looked familiar but it was difficult to tell for certain based only on what she had seen from the air.
She stood with her wings still slightly fanned about her. She knew that the effect that they in conjugation with the eyespots on her body could produce but it wasn't her business to coddle foals. If he wanted to see a bogeyman in her wings and markings he was too foolish to waste her time with anyways. At least he seemed comfortable in the night. The day waking soquili were usually nothing but trouble and irritation when they stumbled across her.
"And I'm not going to hurt you if that comforts you, so why don't you come out of hiding and give me a proper introduction?"

Marcellin couldn't help but stare at the mare. Her wings...He watched as she fanned them out,and his eyes widened. Not in fear, but awe.. His father had those beautiful wings on his body.. But they weren't real, and didn't fan out.. But they were equally amazing.
He shook his head smiling. He had forgotten his manners! He rushed out, wiggled his little tail as he lowered into a bow.
"My name is Marcellin ma'am." He said, looking back up at her with amethyst eyes.

Though fear would have been amusing, the foal's awed reaction to her wings was almost as funny. The wingless always seemed to envy the winged, Mittrei had found... though this one had the mimicry of wings. She looked with sharp concentration at those wings, at them and back over the rest of the foal's markings. They were familiar but she would call it a coincidence until given other evidence.
"Well," she said with another smirking smile once she had finished her inspection. It's very nice to meet you, Macellin. You may call me Mittrei."
She took a look around the darkened forest before turning back to the smiling colt. "It's a bit late for you to be out alone, isn't it? You might meet a skinwalker out here at this hour." She had specifically chosen this area for it's lack of skinwalkers... but you never knew. This young one's presence was at least an indicator that none were lurking about the immediate vicinity.

He gave another bow, just to be polite, and stood back up with a great big smile.
"Its wonderful to meet you!" He stopped, and tilted an ear looking at her with a bit of confusion. That name..Mittrei..Where had he heard that?..Wait..
"Wait a second..Mittrei? Do you have a brother?" He asked, narrowing an eyebrow, obviously trying to decipher her identity.
Helooked confused a bit more, and then his face gave way to his lovely smile. "I like the night time..Im not scared."

A brother? Her eyes snapped back to the pattern on his back. It wasn't a full pair of wings and his colors were different from her siblings. Something about his mannerisms still caught her... that and the small smudges of gold that dusted his body.
"If you're saying what I think you're saying... and I have to admit it makes a certain amount of sense..." She smiled, immensely amused by the luck of fate. "Then perhaps you should be calling me Aunt Mittrei instead."
She fanned her wings out for a second time and peered down at the foal. "That would explain your reaction to these. I imagine your father has a pair patterned on his back?"
Oh, this is too funny. Brother found himself a mate, did he? Good for him. Inwardly she chuckled as outwardly she scrutinized Marcellin and awaited his answer.

Marcellin watched as she seemed to put two and two together, and he beamed with pride when she said that now he'd need to call her Aunt Mittrei. He smiled, and his eyes seemed to dance around the Moth mare. She was so pretty, much like his father.. Marcellin felt sure that he had the prettiest family around.
"Aunt Mittrei? Oh I like that!" He said, and pranced around her ankles.
"He has a pair on his back, but they are not for flying." He looked down at his own back, and smiled at the silvery blue wing pattern that was residing.
"Im almost beautiful too." He said smiling.

"Almost beautiful?" Mittrei tutted as she walked over to him and gave her relative a soft nudge. "Nephew, my brother seems to have been doing a decent enough job raising you except for one lapse.... something he never taught you."
She smiled smugly and raised her head high. "Our family is entirely beautiful. Every single one of us. We have far too good breeding to be anything otherwise." Her tone turned into a playful sort of teasing.
"You should feel lucky being born into such a beautiful family. I pity the poor ugly foals who are given muddy colors and markings, unlike the wings that you have gracing your lovely little back." Though she was partially being playful Mittrei also had said nothing she didn't agree with. They had a gorgeous family and that couldn't be denied... that and there were some truly hideous foals out there.

Marc smiled as his aunt nudged him,and he giggled slightly. "Well, I mean..I am beautiful..But Im without wings..Surely you are more special than I!" He wasnt demeaning himself at all..He was quite happy, and he was sure that that was a good a compliment as any. He was a very logical foal, though sometimes he was very silly.
"Oh, Aunt Mittrei, no foal is ugly.." He said, smiling..Fully believing it. His mother had taught him about inside beauty, and he had learned quite a bit. He was a mommy's boy afterall.
"Daddy says we are a proud race as well!"

If this young one thought no foal was ugly then obviously he hadn't seen some of the foals that had been popping up like mushrooms lately. It was sweet that he had such a pretty view of the world but Mittrei didn't doubt that he'd learn to see the inner and outer ugliness of others in time, a thought that amused her some.
She took his compliment with a pleased smile and a nod. Their family was nothing to scoff at but neither were a fine pair of wings.
"That sounds like your father and it's something you seem like you've taken to heart. She reflected on this smugly for a moment before getting into more serious business.
"Now, Marcellin. I don't believe I've met your mother so I'm going to ask you to describe her to me. I absolutely must know who this mare is that my brother has become smitten with."

Marcellin just looked at his Aunt, with a twinkle in his eyes. He adored Moths and butterflies of all types..and she was the prettiest he'd seen. He didn't know the world was bad and wicked yet..The poor foal had been increasingly bubbly, leaving the logic behind sometimes.
"I have taken it to heart. I listen to everything mother and father tell me..Because they're the wisest I know!"he said with a joyful expression.
Then his eyebrows rose, and he looked to the sky as if thinking. "Wellll....Mother is a sweet, very deep souled mare. She's got shiny black hair, and a pelt colored like mine! She has long braids that Leon, my brother likes to wear as well." He wagged his little tail and smiled.

"Sounds like he's made quite the catch, then. He's quite the dashing one, your father." She smiled wickedly down at her nephew. "From the looks of it, you may grow to be pretty dashing yourself. Have any filly friends yet? It's never too early for them to come flocking."
Back on their island he definitely would have been awash in mares when he grew older. She still expected him to be surrounded by them shortly but there would probably be a higher content of riffraff. Hopefully Cirocco was preparing him for dealing with riffraff.
She resisted the urge to jokingly ask him to send over and flutter stallions he knew. She had been vaguely looking for a potential mate but was nowhere near desperate enough to be asking for handouts. And besides... stallions were annoying creatures by nature and she might as well enjoy her time without them.
