A couple of days ago I was thinking about music genres and how they compare to types of art, such as Romanticism, Impressionism, and Realism. Here is what I think:
Country Music- Impressionism (quickly done, evokes a simple feeling, not exactly realistic)
Hip Hop- Romanticism (shows 'Da Hood' not for how it truly is, but in a glorified way, a way that people living in that situation would rather see their lives)
Jazz- Abstract (Spontaneous and done spur of the moment, but still gives off a specific feeling)

What genres do you think most resemble types of art?

I'm not familiar enough with the types of art to really make any comparisons.

impresionism i would not put with country....more clasical since that is a lot about expressing feelings...and that is all that impresionism is about...
also in the art form it often has this well thought of contrast or colouring in general that defines the feeling....

Here's an easy one:

Avant-garde = ...Avant-garde. Uncanny!

I would put Tech-Death with Abstract, because a lot of it is about that emotion, and the riffing, more so than composing a song. The riffs usually string together, but aren't the same as most riffing. Its hard to put, but does anyone understand?

then jazz still matches that list aswell
and i pretty much agree just that abstract is not really about feelings...more about the strange forms of recognizable things or totally unreal things
abstract art is mainly about the contrast and rythms in the work

What genre fits surrealism? Maybe avante-garde and the likes as well? I could see them fitting into that and abstract.

I could agree with that. Perhaps Dada as well.
