Another being-fostered-at-Rapiers-house day. Dagger had decided that she wanted a day with just Rakha and had kicked her kids out. Emi got stashed at Rapier's home and Lian had been kicked out. He went pretend-mountian climbing. Weird man.
Emi was shifting awkwardly from foot to foot, her fingers worrying at one another. She wasn't sure who was home. Cleo being home meant being pulled around or chattered at. Tyven being home meant... maybe angry? They got along but sometimes Emi said stupid things...
Same went for Jem and Rapier, respectively.
So she knocked, small voice carrying through the door. "Hello? Aunt Rapier? Jem?"

Just as she knocked, even as the words were leaving her mouth, the door was yanked open and poor Emi was probably knocked off the stoop by a loud Jem barreling out the door. The woman was laaaaaaaaate. She was supposed to meet Tammuz and Turner about one minute ago, and needed to get to her skipping point ASAP.
Skidding to a halt, she grinned sheepishly, and reached out to help the girl. "Emi, yea? Sorry about that, I'm on my way out! No one else is--Oh, wait, no, Tyv just got back from the gym, she's probably in the shower. Anyway, go on in, do whatever, Rapier or Cleo'll be home in the evening, I think..."
And she was gone.

Ahahahaha. Jem was hardcore. Tammuz, ever on-time, was probably none too pleased with the lateness. Emi, in retrospect, was none too pleased with tumbling to the ground.
At least dancing taught you to fall gracefully.
A small gasp left the girl as she hit the ground and Jems hand was grasped tightly as they hauled her up. Luckily, Emi was light and didn't bruise at something like that. As Jem spoke, Emi just smiled, a shy little thing and she didn't appear surprised at all as the small woman left in her rush.
She pushed her way into the house, shutting it gently behind her. If Tyven was in the shower, she had at least a minute or two. The swan let herself into the kitchen, opening the door to scan the contents. Rapier always had good-for-you stuff behind Jems things. An apple was kidnapped and Emi let herself sit on a stool at the kitchens island, taking a small bite.
Mmm.

As the bathroom door opened, steam entered the hall, and with it the smells of shampoo and body wash. Tyven padded into the kitchen with only a towel around her midsection, towel-dried hair still slightly damp. Despite that, her surprise at seeing Emi was non-visable, and she somehow managed to exude the same cool, smooth grace as always, opening the fridge to remove a bottle of water.
Leaning against the island, her half-closed eyes lingered on Emi. "Bird food, of course." A pause. Tyven really liked birds, a lot. In some senses, she was glad that Emi was here. It was almost a substitution for Cleo. Sort of like Alora. She loved prey.
Those sharp white teeth flashed in that brief smile. "What are you doing here?" A long, slow drink of the water. "I doubt it was just to see me."

Emi jumped visibly when Tyven came out and spoke, one hand grabbing at the counter to keep from falling for the second time that day. She turned just slightly to look at her cousin and didn't speak until she had finished chewing and swallowing her bite of apple.
"Swans eat fish." She defended. Unlike times before, Emis voice wasn't shy orr shaking or beaten down by emo-like proportions. It was calm and quiet, a touch of serenity that she was learning leaking into it. Snakes scared her - but Tyven was family. "I just didn't want to make something without permission."
"Mother wanted to spend time with Rakha. Lian went rock climbing and.. I'd rather be here." She shrugged just a little, looking back down at her apple. "I like you."

Tyven was quite for a moment, just watching Emi. She liked her? Well, at least that was one bird she was sure of at the moment, then. Another swallow made the entire bottle disappear [Tyv got really thirsty] and she easily tossed it into a recycling bin near the trashcan.
"I'll make you some fish." She happened to like the new bit of 'tude that Emi had started to develop. Slim fingers reached out to pluck the apple from the swan's grasp and as Tyven strolled past the cupboards, she put it in the compost, and continued heading out the kitchen, down the hall.

"But - I like apples too!" Her protest was a little louder then normal as the swan hopped off of her stool with a little frown. She was even fighting back! It was improvement, wasn't it? Once she saw that Tyven was leaving the kitchen, Emi simply sighed.
She found a pan and some extra virgin olive oil for Tyven but touched nothing else. Tyven said she would cook and, again, the swan was loathe to upset her. Instead, she looked around, peeking into cabinets, studying what sort of things they ate...
It was so different from Daggers home. Due to Dagger and Rakhas diets, there was a lot of red-meat sort of protein. Shrimp, bugs, algae and fish were kept soley for Emis consumption and the junk food and vegetable matter was mainly for Lian. No one other then Lian imbibed in junk food; he was an adreniline junkie, after all.

Here, though? A bit different. Jem was a vegetarian, but obviously of the modern variety. Hence tofu, and fake-meats that were actually pretty tasty. Chicken nuggets, tofu burgers, and so on. Tyven had a stock of meat, but also ate fish, grains, vegetables and pretty much anything else under the sun. [Indigo Snakes were famous omnivores], Cleo had her own favorites, and of course Rapier rounded everything out.
Less than two minutes passed before the tall snake returned, a simple pair of fitted black pants and a tank top on. Her hair was almost dry now and tied back in a loose bun at the nape of her neck. Spotting the pan already out, she gave Emi a look before grabbing a knife and some small red potatoes from the fridge. They were cut into quarters and put in the pan with some oil and rosemary, the pan was turned on, and another came out for an almost matching deal with a two filets of salmon.
None of this would take long to cook and Tyven reached up easily into a high cupboard to remove two plates, handing them, as well as napkins and silverware, to Emi. She could handle that.
"Are you thirsty?" Her voice was almost gruff.

For once, she didn't wince and wilt away at such a Look but instead just peered back at the snake with a calm gaze - and she smiled. Tiny and mild, but it was definately there.
She waited patiently for Tyven to give her something to do, arms reaching out to take the silverware from her. The swan slipped away, silent and graceful as any snake would hope to be, and started to set the table with a small tinkle of plates and dishes.
Her head peeked inside at the question and there it was - another small smile.
"I like water. Milk and juices make my stomach hurt." She disappeared once again.

"Mmn." Duly noted. Within a few minutes, Tyven carried both pans out to the table, dishing up the food and returning to the kitchen to put the left over food in tupperware. There was at least one more serving. When she came back to the table, it was with two glasses of water.
Taking her seat, she pointed with a fork. "Eat." The lavender eyed girl kept catching those small smiles. Emi was pretty cute, when she wasn't being offensive.
"How have you been?" An attempt at conversation was a very good sign from Tyven.

Emi sat obediently, carefully cutting up the fish and potatoes into smaller pieces. She took a sip of water before she started to eat, taking a single bite and chewing at it slowly. Dagger often got frustrated with her pace when it came to eating but it was what Emi enjoyed. What was the point in eating quickly when she didn't have to?
She glanced up at the question, blinking a few times as she swallowed. "Kind of busy. Dancing a lot. School. Rakha wants to teach me to fight but..." her face pulled into a distasteful expression and she shook her head.
"What about you?"

Tyven, surprisingly, had perfect dining manners. Apparently, the last time she'd eaten in front of Emi, it had just been a show for the girl. She gracefully waved away Emi's question, instead choosing to comment on Rakha's suggestion.
"You should learn. I could help you."

"I'm not big enough or very... fast. I react well, though." She looked down at her plate, pushing the protein and starch around on the plate. Another bite, quiet and languid, taking her time to answer her cousin further.
"I don't like weapons. Or hurting people. Keivlos hurts himself, sometimes. I don't like... blood. And Mother has some marks?" One hand rose and Emi gestured to her back before taking a third bite and paused again as she chewed and swallowed. "I don't understand why people would do that to someone else."

Tyven was quiet, and slowly finished her meal, reflecting on what Emi had said. She felt the same way, in some senses. In all honesty, Tyv was a protector with no one to protect. Hence her aggression. She'd been taking meditation courses to control that, the bloodlust, but it was hard.
"Sometimes it's not really a choice, Emi." Shaking her head, Tyven finished her drink, allowing her loose, long bangs to cover most of her face as she tilted her head forward. "I don't think it's any worse than emotional attacks. At least when it's physical, it heals and then it's over with." A fluid shrug. "And there's always self-defense to learn. Even if you don't understand why someone would do that to you... It doesn't mean they won't do it, it just means that you'll be unprepared."

Dagger had something like that, once. Always learn to defend yourself, always fight. Never surrender. Emis eyes lowered at Tyvens words, her fork stilling for a moment. Her wings were flicking every so often, unconcious little jerks of skin and feather.
Shoulders hunched just briefly before she frowned, head tilting up to peer at the snake once more.
"Then you should teach me. Rakha and Dagger would be happy and... Please?"
She went back to eating, waiting for the other to talk again. This time, feeling more comfortable, she took a few more bites, a little larger then the first three. It was good.
