It was just after dawn, and the first streaks of daylight were warming the landscape, the faint pinks and oranges of the early morning fading into the more bright colors of day.
Picking his way through the shallows of the riverbed, Vytali made a face as a rock slipped under his hoof, causing him to stumble clumsily to his knees. Scrambling back to his feet, he made his way back up onto dry land. Wrinkling his muzzle, he stamped his hooves impatiently, sending a small spray of water flying from his soaked fetlocks. Mercifully, it was already fairly warm today, and he would likely dry quickly.
It was merciful, he couldn't help but think, that he'd been alone--he wasn't all that fond of others catching him looking so...clumsy, as it were. It tended to spoil the unaffected demeanor he exuded.

So, 'stalking' wasn't exactly what Dietrich was doing. Really.
The stallion was busy musing to himself about certain things: the weather, the past, the future, and all sorts of random tidbits (such as he hoped today would be encounter-free, as Dietrich hated chatting about stupid gossip that he really did not care about) when out of nowhere, he spotted, well, himself.
At first glance he really thought it was some strange doppleganger of his own (gorgeous, he must admit) self, but on second glance, he noticed some subtleties. The figure was still a distance away, it didn't help that the sun was rising in such an angle that it was hard to make out the actual shape of the other.
Curiousity, mixed with a slight indignation, got the better of Dietrich and he snuck closer (as he didn't want to strike conversation unless necessary; most soquili, he thought arrogantly, didn't have the attention span of a gnat) to see exactly who this was.
Ah, just another stallion, by the water. Dietrich stared at him enviously for a while, at how the angle of the light reflected perfectly against his glistening body. That stallion, who did they think they were, showing off as if they owned the world? He was so much better than them, which they would never know, as he was hiding, but what mattered was his own opinion.
With that, Dietrich turned around to leave when he heard a noisy splash behind him. By instinct he turned back to look, and could not help but let out a noisy snort. The other had fallen right into the water; the expression on their face was priceless as they looked around guiltily before trying to get up.

At the sound of Dietrich snorting, Vyt straightened, expression smoothing out into its usual arrogant mask, as he turned to see just who had made the mocking noise. The corners of his mouth were turned ever-so-slightly upward, giving him his telltale, slightly amused expression. Damn. Of all the times for there to be someone else observing him, in such a moment of clumsiness...
Additionally, he disliked being caught off-guard to start with--why hadn't he heard the other approaching sooner?
Flicking his tail impatiently, he turned to face the direction in which the noise had come, waiting for the other equine to show themselves.
"It seemed a good time for a quick dip." He observed blandly, choosing to fill the silence that fell in the small clearing.
